Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (stylized in marketing as Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3) is a 2023 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy, produced by Marvel Studios, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Rocket finally embraced his raccoon roots, Drax finally danced, Groot finally spoke non-groot, Nebula finally emoted, Mantis finally gained some independence, Kraglin finally mastered Yondu’s Whistle-Arrow and Peter finally went home. Basically everyone fulfilled their arcs.
And Rocket becomes the new leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
I thought it was less about Groot speaking normal and more about us (the audience) finally being able to understand him like the rest of the Guardians do.
I really liked this movie, but when Groot spoke non-groot, i felt the entire audience cringe.
Groot spoke non-Groot in the very first movie.
Well, Groot finally speaking was actually the audience finally understanding him. Gunn said so.
Rocket's scream of anguish still gets me all choked up. I felt so bad for him.
Kinda made me laugh, ngl, it was so over the top
And Floor's panic attack mantra didn't help.

Peters when Rocket was dying does it for me. That was the moment that made me tear up.
It's hard to have an unpopular opinion on a film. It's fine if Doug doesn't like it, afterall, no movie's going to please everyone, and it's great he can see and respect why so many others love it.
For me, it's the emotional core that carries this film. This and the second movie are the only Marvel movies to ever make me cry. Rocket had the most traumatic childhood ever. The fact that "hurts" was his first word is just heartbreaking, let alone what happens to his other test subject friends. After that, and especially after learning of the other atrocities the High Evolutionary has committed, you really want to see Rocket and the other Guardians give him what's coming to him. It's just so emotionally investing that I can overlook most of the flaws Doug mentioned. That, and the action sequences are still great. It's not a perfect, but fitting end to the trilogy.

I had similar reactions to the 2016 Ghostbusters and The Last Jedi. I thought I liked them at first, but after watching other online critics' reviews pointing out their flaws, they convinced me those movies sucked.
He could at least keep the relationships straight, like not assuming the grandfather is “Earth dad”… seriously between this and thinking Hop Pop from “Amphibia” is the uncle, what does he have against grandparents in fiction? ;-P
Meh, it’s OK not to like it especially when you can reason through it. :-)
I had problems with it too, trust me, there’s people that don’t love this film
Last Jedi makes it Canon that a single X-Wing can destroy a Super Star Destroyer surrounded by five regular Star Destroyers!!!
One time I talked about The Last Jedi with a guy that loved it. We liked the same scenes, we hated the same scenes, but for him the positives vastly outweighed the negatives, and for me it was the opposite. The final verdict is always about personal preference, even if you can objectively agree on the strenghts and weaknesses of a story.
I've had similar experiences, with The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, and other such divisive movies. I definitely agree with Doug's take; even if you disagree it's valuable to at least try to hear out contrasting opinions, and sometimes you can even find middle ground in stuff in a movie you otherwise dislike that you thought was done well or stuff in a movie you otherwise like that you admit could've been done better.
I really respect the civility. When I finished the Last Jedi having really liked it, it was pretty miserable how many times I was told that I shouldn't, that I have garbage taste, etc. No one should have to feel crappy for enjoying a piece of entertainment!
@@matthewjones6786 I learned many things that day. That discussion confirmed and cemented my belief that art is fundamentally subjective and that you can't force yourself to like something just as much as you can't force yourself to dislike something.
Also, the scene of the Force self-discovery in the black void was awesome, and the last stand on the salt planet was visually magnificent 💞

Both The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker are better movies than they're given credit for and the so called "fandom" was just extremely overzealous in their ruthless contempt towards them.
The fact that Peter wanting to see his grandfather again was a major plot point in the movie made it incredibly emotional for me. I lost my grandfather a few years ago, and I know the pain that Peter feels. The scene where he actually reunites with his grandfather almost made me tear up.
Same my grandpa was in hospital at time when I seen this so it really affected me

I don't usually cry during movies but the scene where Rocket just wails when he sees Lylla dead actually had me holding back tears.
Before this movie, Rocket was one of my favorite characters because he’s really funny. Now, he’s one of my absolute favorites because his character and backstory is so gripping and emotional

Major kudos to the effects team behind Rocket. He moved like an older man, and you could really tell. Also, his first word being "hurt" is truly heartbreaking. 💔😢
I appreciate how even though he doesn’t like this movie Doug shows a lot of respect for the people who may like it and is open to other interpretations. He doesn’t act like his opinion is the only one that is right. Who knows? Maybe he’ll learn to like this movie more in the future.
Really? Because according to some of the comments for the "Elemental" review, he just hates everything and doesn't understand it for not loving it.

In my opinion Guardians 3 is the best in the trilogy it’s emotional, dark, funny, and heartwarming along with the fantastic music and engaging story, James Gunn did a great job with the trilogy and I hope he helps DC get back in the groove, This is one of my favorite Marvel movies, I understand Doug’s opinion on the movie not everyone is going to love it but despite that I still love this movie it’s one of the best films of 2023 along with Mario movie, Across the Spider verse, and Godzilla minus one.
When the 1st Guardians movie came out I had little expectations when I went to see it since they were the Marvel characters I knew the least about prior to seeing them on the big screen. I ended up loving the 1st film, the 2nd film, & the 3rd film so much that to me it's the overall best movie trilogy Marvel has made. I'd say my only complaint with this film is similar with Darren Cross becoming M.O.D.O.K. then trying to redeem himself, Adam Warlock's development/redemption felt rushed in that he was set up as this big threat, then he was comic relief, then confused about what he wanted after his mom died, & then he saves Star Lord & joined the Guardians.

@@matthewbuckley7757: I remember watching the 1999 series Spider-Man Unlimited & I really enjoyed it. I was upset it only lasted 1 Season (& ended on a cliffhanger), but it was a unique take on the character I had never seen before. Plus, I found the High Evolutionary to be a dark yet interesting villain. As for his appearance in Guardians 3, I still enjoyed his character though I liked him more in the 1999 series, but I do hope we see him again at some point since he survived this film.

Corrections for Doug:
1- The MCU is now in phase 5.
2- It was mentioned that Mantis was Peter's sister.
3- Peter reunited with his grandfather at the end.
The Guardians films have gradually gotten more and more personal.
Consider that James Gunn has gone on record saying that he wrote a lot of himself into the character of Rocket. Consider that Gunn was fired and re-hired and it was unclear whether he'd get to finish his trilogy. Consider that Rocket was largely the main character of this film and was to have had his brain be dissected for it's great ideas and then be thrown away by an amoral corporation that was pursuing perfection, and who deemed him worthless otherwise; a corporation filled with both sterile repetition in its employees and that creates anthropomorphic animals living in a mockery of society.
The amoral corporation pursued him for his ideas, for what they could get out of him, but finally he was found, validated and received a new opportunity as the leader of a new team.
Yeah, the story is a bit of a mess but considering this was the biggest middle finger to Disney of all time--and right under their nose--and *also* managed to wrap the story of these characters in satisfying ways...how can anyone not applaud? This feels like the true Epilogue to Avengers: Endgame that I didn't know I needed.
This is the beginning of a brilliant analysis. I never even considered that Rocket's story is a reflection of James Gunn's.

It’s impressive how James Gunn made a whole comic book movie trilogy and not one of them is bad. That just shows you what a great and talented filmmaker James Gunn is.

That hallway fight is one of the best action scenes in any MCU movie ever. James Gunn didn't need to go THAT hard with that scene but I'm glad he did.
What scene are you talking about? I don't remember what the halfway fight scene is.
If I had a nickel for every time the third installment of a sci-fi franchise had a scene where the heroes take out a bunch of the bad guy's minions while rocking out to the Beastie Boys, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

That scene is just incredible. I love one take scenes. It was just so amazing to watch despite the fact it isn’t even 5 minutes.
I have pretty much the same thoughts as Doug but I have to admit that that was really cool! 😍 That was really well put together!
Star-Lord’s mask was destroyed in Guardians 2, and Gunn wanted to keep it destroyed, but due to some poor communication, the Russos brought it back in Infinity War and Endgame. And then it was never brought back again
Also, Mantis cried while taming the Abilisks because as the second film established, she can feel what anyone feels when she touches them.
I feel like Doug didn't fully invest himself into the film. Moments like not understanding Mantis' empath ability, calling Quill's grandpa his "earth dad," it felt like I was watching a cinema sins video.
@saiyanc137 He's been doing that all throughout Dusneycember, i.e. claiming Blue Sky released the Lorax movie and forgetting that Miles Morales had electrical powers in the Spider-Verse films.
Honestly, I just assumed he bought or made a new mask at some point.
Bradley Cooper did an amazing job voicing Rocket in this movie. Just phenomenal
To me this is by far the best of the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Everyone's emotional journey just felt so earned and fulfilling. Also Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary I was just incredible and one of the best villains in the MCU. In all honesty, it might be my favourite MCU film of all time and one my all time favourite comic book movies.
I adore how this franchise effectively uses classic songs. I got Goosebumps simply from hearing "In the Meantime" by Spacehog in the trailer.
This movie is not perfect but Compared to the other MCU films in Phase 4... This movie was a breath of fresh air. Oh, and Spiderman No Way Home.

I really liked Star Lord trying to remind Gamora of a person she never was, him trying to turn her into something she isn't was a nice subtle parallel to the High Evolutionary's twisted ideals, only he learned his lesson in the end and focused on the people he already had
Quill's arc in the movie was figuring out to move on, so him returning to his roots and reuniting with his grandfather makes perfect sense.
When Nebula said that Drax can be a father to the orphans, I legit cried in the theatre
It sucks Doug didn’t like this movie but when he said how much he liked Super I screamed like a groupie. One of my favorite movies of all time
I think a big factor as to why many people really got into this was the amount of trouble Gunn ran into when making this. He was immediately fired when the false allegations about him were making the rounds and rehired when they were proven to be false so he had a ton of hurdles to jump through along with keeping up with the release cadence Marvel’s been trying to do since 2021 so it’s amazing we got what we got. Not to mention, it did feel like James Gunn concluded his time with the Guardians the way he wanted to (a similar reason to why I think so many people hold the first SpongeBob movie in high regard).
I did end up really liking this movie (though not as much as the other two) but I respect the movie for how it turned out and what it meant for Gunn.
No the allegations were true he did tweet that stuff, that’s why Gunn publicly apologized. Disney accepted his apology which is why he was rehired

Doug says "Starlord's Earth dad" and the nitpicking part of my brain immediately goes "it's his grandfather, not his Earth dad".
This is the Perfect Way to make a Trilogy and that Shows James Gunn knows how to make Movies and Adaptations that has Heart and Soul.
I cried watching this movie.
What I loved most was that as soon as Peter saw that Rocket was hurt, he instantly went to help. Peter barely cared about anything, even his own health and hygiene because of his pain, but got up to help Rocket regardless.
The part with Rocket saying don’t kill the High-Evolutionary cause we’re Guardians Of The Galaxy, that is where this movie nails it about what superhero movies are supposed to be about, super-heroes never kill anybody. It’s okay to watch them throw a punch here & there but they don’t murder.
6:28 ok I haven't watched this movie yet but I remember Mantis' powers being explained in the second movie that she reads the minds of whomever she touches.
And looking at that scene taking place in a dark dungeon like setting I can understand why the monsters will be scared.
Why Doig can't put 2 and 2 together ... I guess he's outgrown actual sympathy in movies like others.

Gonna have to disagree with you on this one. I loved this movie. It hit hard, probably because this came out a few weeks before my high school graduation. It even came out a few days after my last high school choir concert. I was blinking back the tears during the dog days are over scene.

Opinions like this is why I dont get Doug gets so much hate. He has such a good way of explaining his views and how he respects the difference in others views.
So the thing with Adam Warlock is that, somewhere along the way, the timeline for the movies got screwed up and GotG 3 was, if I remember correctly, suppose to come out before Infinity War so he didn't have the soul stone like he did in the comics and they had to rework his character.

I've always LOVED The Guardians of the Galaxy and Vol.3 is my favorite
I felt all the characters completed their arcs, I loved the fact that an MCU movie finally allowed an F Bomb, and most of all, loved that this felt like James Gunn's vision, it may be the only Phase 4 film outside of Wakanda Forever that didn't feel like it was directed by committee.
Doug, you are absolutely right, art is subjective. In this time of culture wars and social media, it takes guts to admit you don't love something a lot of people do, and vice versa, so respect for that.
The jokes in the movie are to show how close the characters are as a family. It shows that they're comfortable enough to look a little stupid in front of each other. It's more about them being in character than the movie trying to make you laugh.
There are so many UA-cam movie critics that treat their opinions like facts. I respect doug for treating his opinions as opinions. He explain them and give examples, but he never says this movie is terrible and that the only truth. He says i didn't like and if you do talk to me and we can have an interesting conversation
I just started, and I have two things to say:
1. This is Phase Five, not Phase Four
2. You're not alone. I thought this movie was so-so.
The color gradient in this film looks like a graphics novel. It's pastel yet with high contrast and in the shade is such a beautiful sci fi palette. Reminds me more of the old Judge Dredd comics than anything else.
I found the High Evolutionary to be an interesting villain because he's a man who plays God and is a total perfectionist. All to create a perfect species, the fact he will experiment on and sacrifice innocent creatures to is beyond cruel, but to create an entire civilization and destroy it when he finds a flaw is terrifying. It's especially horrible knowing he's done this multiple times. Plus, I like how he was unhinged at random moments because he was so calm and diplomatic in other ways. You could tell that this guy had a direct mindset but was clearly mad with power.
The final chapter of a beloved superhero team as they save the galaxy one last time.
High Evolutionary wasn’t a galaxy level threat compared to the first 2 (or 3 depending on how you look at it)
I don’t think this movies holds up quite as well with a rewatch, and I do agree that it’s bloated to a fault, but it does give a satisfying conclusion to these characters. It’s one of the only movies in the MCU that I legit got emotional watching.
Mantis crying with the creatures sounds like she "listened" to their emotions and felt the cruelty they went through, or something.
This is actually a phase 5 movie. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was the final film of phase 4.
I ABSOLUTELY disagree with Doug on this movie. But with that said, I’m glad he’s willing to share his opinions, even if it’s not what the majority thinks. 😊
They give awards for vocal performances. Bradley Cooper deserves it. His performance was outstanding
Honestly, I didn't like it either. They made the same stupid mistake that _Thor: Love and Thunder_ did: not allowing the characters to learn and grow from past experiences. Towards the end of the film, Mantis says that the only person on the entire team who doesn't hate themselves is Drax, and that's only because he's too stupid to realize that he should. And they should be past that by now! But no, everyone just keeps making the same dumb mistakes that we thought they'd learned not to make multiple times now in previous moves. And that just makes this one impossible to enjoy.
I know you didn’t see it but I did with the peter wanting to go back to earth, they always remind Peter he has family on earth and never went back, Peter even after the 1st one was scared to go back to earth, and in the third one he finally grows up and goes back.
This whole movie should've been about Rocket, and the rest of the gang should've been trying to find a way to rescue and save him, but the focus should've been Rocket. At the end the movie ends up being pretty messy and all over the place, then again I only liked the first GotG and I only liked it for two viewings, I rewatched it with friends recently and I was bored.
I feel like there was always an undercurrent of the guardians abusing animals from the opening scene of the first one where starlord is kicking small animals. So them saving animals shows they've become more well-rounded.
While we all know Rocket's animal buddies were going to die, when they did for me they got me in the feels man.

I think it actually hit me harder that nobody died in this, I find it a lot more relatable and surprising when you just have to say goodbye to someone, whether you're moving away or they are it's this really weird emotion knowing someone you see all the time isn't gonna be in your life as much anymore. Obviously death is a sad thing but I think a lot of us are sort of desensitized to movie deaths (especially in finales), so seeing something like Drax waving goodbye to Mantis hit me way harder than if one of those characters had died.
I finally watched it last night, and I really liked it. It made me appreciate Drax so much more. Why? I don't dance. I can't bring myself to. Social anxiety and whatnot. BUT, when I'm with my kids? I can be silly, I can dance. This movie brought out that same exact side of him, and it made me ludicrously happy to see.
I watched this at home. It was fine. Those kind of movies today are so weak, that "fine" is a compliment.

Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 was absolutely fantastic
It really was, I saw it twice in the theatres, and it was totally epic.

Gamora was in the movie mainly to give Peter closure on losing her by having him finally let go and work on himself and the things he’s avoiding. Most of the film he’s in denial about that
I definitely agree with your opinions. They didn’t utilize Adam well, the story and humor felt very dry, and the villain wasn’t very threatening. They took him out way too easily!

Of all the Marvel film series, Guardians never disappoint.
This movie felt important to me. It taught me to let go of things I can’t have and things that are lost to me, like Starlord had to let go of Gamora.

The High Evolutionary is a perfectly accurate portrayal of a real life low functioning sociopath, just with superpowers. That takes a lot of talent to act out correctly.
Honestly, if you look at the creepy eugenics-esque viewpoints put forward by some tech billionaires, he's a terrifyingly plausible villain. Had some talent, became super-rich and then nobody dared tell him no to any of his insane ego trips.
Honestly, my biggest issue with the third guardians Film and I remember saying this to my friend when we were in the theater was the fact that Starr Laura didn’t have his equipment that he’s had in literally every single movie that he’s been in. And the movie did a terrible job explaining why he didn’t have his gear.
The marvel fan boys online tried to defend it and say oh it’s because he rushed to go see if his friend prior movies Havasu establish that he has plenty of equipment on his spaceship which clearly they used throughout the movie.
It just seemed dumb and forced into having a fake out at the third act, and it makes absolutely no sense because at this point Star Lord is nothing more than a human so he should’ve instantly died being in space
I'm glad that even though Doug's opinion isn't in the majority he still understands and respects why people likes it. I definitely disagree with Doug on his opinion but appreciate that he isn't bashing us for enjoying this film.
Quill was meant to permanently lose his mask in guardians 2. But they included the mask in infinity war/endgame against Gunns wishes
You are not alone! I agree with everything you said about this movie! I don't like GotG1 personally, it's not for me but I get it. GotG2 is really good and so deep! I really enjoy it. Then this comes and it feels like they didn't finish writing it. Its more annoying than funny, plots and characters come out of nowhere and go nowhere and I have no idea why the broke up in the end. I don't like the first one but it had a goal it accomplished, the second felt so carefully written in all areas and was great and then this feels like something scribbled in the margins of a better film. And seeing how busy James Gunn is, it's not crazy to think that he wasn't giving the script his full attention. I hope I'm wrong, I'm not accusing him, and if I discovered that he was less involved I wouldn't be surprised.
Rocket and Mantis's arcs are the only ones that made sense but one was sad enough to make the opening of Up cry and the other was just screaming. Makes for a fun movie. Adam was great tho, wish he was in more of it.
All the arcs are more personalty centered than story centered, you have to know how the characters are rather than qho they are or what they do, like Starlord trying to unite with Gamora even if he knows its pointless because he misses her and believes he has a chance, at the end is he reconnecting qith his routes, his human side rather than his godlike side, the same can be said qith every character

I do see that, I just don't think the film did a good job making those arcs obvious to the viewer. I get on a story level that Peter hasn't reconnected with his human family and really should but him deciding to reunite with his grandpa came out of nowhere in the film. Was he thinking about his grandpa? Why would Gamora rekindle that desire in him? Has he been running away from Earth all this time? Why? What was his relationship with his grandpa like that caused this to be a big step for him? Why does wanting to visit his grandpa mean he can't keep being a guardian? Why does he want to stop being a guardian? None of these sorts of questions are ones I had about him and his family in the other movies.
I do see Drax's arc and it does make sense I just feel like it was shoved in there at the end 'hes been wanting to be a dad this whole time' nice and sweet but the movie wasn't showing me that at all. Also baby Groot last movie? Why did that not fulfil him?
I know the death of Rocket's friends was expected, but what made disturbing for me was the execution. You something terrible is going to happen, but you don't know when it's coming.
About the two points regarding the Guardians and the Evolutionary, I do understand Doug's POV while it didn't work with him. How it bothered him, mainly with all the constant shouting, but I feel it actually fits for this movie due to what we've seen the Guardians go through.
This movie is meant to show the Guardians past reaching a boiling point. Like with Quill, I can see why Doug would find him being desperate to be with this version of Gamora obnoxious, but for me, it helped highlight the tragedies Quill suffered from coming to a head. Quill witnessed his mom die from brain cancer at a young age and saw Yondu sacrifice his life for him. Proving he was his real father figure. Learning that his Gamora was murdered by Thanos was the last straw for him. Which is why he's more depressed in this movie. He loved his Gamora. Him doing everything to get this Gamora to love him shows his desperation to not lose someone he loved again. Wanting the relationship they had back.
As for the High Evolutionary, he does scream a lot when it's not needed. But it highlights how mentally unstable he is. How he'll lose it if nothing goes the way in his delusions of a perfect world. In fact, he serves as a dark reflection of Quill himself. As Quill attempts to recreate the relationship he had with his Gamora. Similar to how the Evolutionary tries to keep re-creating the perfect society. The only difference is that Quill realizes how wrong it is to force the alternate Gamora to be exactly like the original. He allows her to live her own life with the Ravangers and parts ways with her on better terms. The Evolutionary however, never reflects on how monstrous his actions are and gets worse and worse when he tries hunting down Rocket himself. Ending with him being alone and despised for all the atrocities he's committed. I see him as what Quill would've turned into if he had let his grief over the loss of his Gamora consume him. It's one of the reason I considered him a fantastic villain.
Doug, I think you're crazy. Sorry, but that's how I see it! This is one of Marvel's best, most rewarding movies in the past 5 years.
Might need to get in touch with your emotional side, lol! This movie was incredible in everything it delivered, and it's creativity. You made a lot of good points, but I feel like you missed out on a lot, and I'm not sure what place you're coming from where you can't appreciate the high positives this movie put out.
Although I enjoyed watching Vol 3 in the theater
And also enjoyed rewatching a good chunk of it months later

I still personally prefer the other two Guardian movies and felt they had a bigger impact
I think I even liked the Guardians Christmas Special as much as I liked Vol 3
If I had to pick my biggest complaint with this movie
Its that The High Evolutionary is the weakest and most unsympathetic Guardians villain
I do agree the humor wasn't the best, Marvel hasn't been good at it lately, however, unlike lesser movies cough cough love and thunder cough, the humor either good or bad never got in the way of the heartfelt moments, my personal favorite moment in the movie was when Nebula almost cried when Rocket recovered, I loved it in the moment and loved it even more when I realized, they were the only two guardians to survive the snap, without outright shoving you in your face, you can tell those two had a deep connection because they were the only family left for each other for a while, but that's just my interpretation of that scene
This video made me feel better for liking Wish and The Marvels.
9:03 Yeah.... It really feels like James Gunn was trying to force Quill's/ Star-Lord's characterization into a specific way, just for the sake of the plot (like forgetting his helmet and boots because in VOL. 2 he lost them at the end, even if he had them back during Infinity War / Endgame). The worst part is that you can't even blame it on "each poject doing their own thing causing contradictions". Gunn was involved in both this film and the christmas special.
If anything I feel like, a conclusion that makes more sense and ties into what they were going for with Quill and Mantis, is having them BOTH (if not the entire guardians) meet Grandpa Quill, to show the guy who basically lost his entire family at the beginning of the first film, that he has a new extended family out there in outter space (also ties back to Mantis' character arc of she having more family out there, not just Ego); even if at the end they have Quill AND Mantis stay on Earth, and have Mantis and Quill go on different ways (even if they are still on the same planet)
About the "Heaven Scene", I don't think it was heaven at all. The background was the cages from the high evolutionary's ship. So I think it was a coma induced hallucination...
Gamora's presence is about letting go and recovering from loss. Some people are not ready to let go, trauma and depression are unreasonable beasts.
I felt this wrapped up the series very well
I can’t get over how they did Adam Warlock dirty! In the comics, he’s basically space Jesus, but in this movie he’s just a bratty momma’s boy.

Apparently, the High Evolutionary didn’t learn anything from Frankenstein and Jurassic Park on the consequences of playing God. Like what did he expect would happen with his creations? Like there weren’t going to be any flaws?
Well like any creative like that, you just simply erase the board and start over again, learning from your mistakes. Only the mistakes here and living, breathing beings that have made their own lives and homes for better or worse. Many forget that part when it's real life, it's all the same as equations at the worse.
One thing I like about it is it felt mostly stand alone. There weren't random cameos or set ups to other movies, it just felt like a send off to characters I had grown to really love during the last 10 years. I, like many others, had never heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy but have come to regard them as such great characters

My two things about this movie; 1 you could cut the suburban house sequence and lose nothing and 2 i like what the movie did for Adam Warlock giving him a personality granted its hunter from the owl house but its still a personality
Normally I listen to movie critics to figure out which movies I should watch, which I shouldn’t and to find out messages and little details that I didn’t see before in movies to make them better. And while I normally respect their opinions, I’m sorry but I disagree with Doug- this has to be my personal favourite movie of the year. When I first learnt about the Guardians, I thought they were good but I wasn’t as interested as others. They got better overtime and the holiday special did help a bit as I thought it was pretty fun, but this film fully helped me fall in love with the Guardians. It had a good story to keep people interested. The music was great as it evolved through decades with each movie, the first two movies have songs from the 60s and mostly the 70s. By Vol 3, there are also 80s, 90s and even 2000s songs which could indicate the end of a century of music along with the end of the original Guardians team. Some of the songs in Vol 3 despite never hearing about them before this movie, I now listen to them a lot which is what’s so great about these Guardians movies, I feel like James Gunn is introducing decades old songs to new generations. It was confirmed that the High Evolutionary would be one of the MCU’s most evil villains and boy whoever said that was correct. You see how great and evil he is but also hate him because of what he’s done and what he does do and the actor playing him really nails it playing this crazy, perfection-obsessed psychopath. As for the characters, some of them are at their best here and I like how basically everyone is given something to do like Kraglin finally having control of Yondu’s arrow, Cosmo stepping up to save Kraglin despite their little feud throughout the film and even Adam Warlock who despite could’ve been a better character does get a bit of redemption at the end.
As someone who’s been getting into arguments with some friends, because we have different opinions about movies lately, I really appreciate the message that you just gave. Don’t let other peoples opinions change your opinions.
Doug, you are not alone on this. I mean it. I don’t really like Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3.
Sure, there are some things that I like, the rocket backstory and some of the plot elements that works fine. But I just don’t really like the noises.
I got to mention a few things here. First off, the “giant squid” creatures were introduced in Volume 2 of this series. Secondly, Peter wasn’t trying to reconnect with his “earth dad”, that was his grandfather. His 2 “fathers” died in volume 2: he himself killed Ego (his bio father) and Yondu (his “daddy”) sacrificed himself to save Quill.
All that being said, I understand the criticisms. And I respect your opinion, even if I don’t agree with it.
The No Sleep Till Brooklyn hallway showdown is one of my favorite scenes and hits perfectly for these guys
Honestly, Vol. 3 is my least favorite in the trilogy. Not that I dislike it, it’s just one and two were phenomenal movies. One will always hold a special place in my heart due to it being the last movie I saw at my local theater before it closed, coming off as a way to cap off a bad year for me that honestly put me in a really good mood, the playlist being songs I was aware of and feeling ahead of the curve with new ppl discovering them, not to mention it was a new film with characters I knew nothing about, so it was exciting but I also didn’t expect to like it, but I ended up loving it. Nothing will ever top the first for me. The second came close, it was entertaining, funny, and heartfelt. At that point it basically became my Star Wars. Just the feeling of I want to live in this world. Vol 3 is good, it’s just…not where I saw things going but I am glad where everyone ended up, it’s just…doesn’t hit like the first two did, can’t really put my finger on why. Maybe deep down I was hoping Gamora would somehow get her counterpart’s memories and she’d resume her romance with Peter or maybe I was expecting something other than the message of “ppl change, sometimes you have to accept and move on”. No good thing lasts forever, but if anything I’m glad this movie exists and James Gunn got to finish his trilogy the way he intended.
I'm being completely honest when I say that this is the very best movie I've ever seen.
