My god, you have no idea how the Amiga, demos, the Spaceballs in particular, shaped my love of computing and tech. So fantastic to find this.
2021 , 46 years old and still in love with this. Thank you for the memories.
Same here 56 years old 😊😊 Just bought an Amiga 1200 to relive all the 90's demos!
I'm also 46, and I've got emulated Amiga as Pimiga on Raspberry PI 4 400. Love Amiga and demoscene!
Totally relate, i remember attending The Party 92 in Aars as a teenager, driving half a day from Germany with two other C64 scene guys. Thanks to Code18 for that adventure
Do those girls know, that they made one of the greatest piece of art in modern computing :) Not many achievements are getting visitors after 20 years and still be so freaking good!
In 1993 this Demo rocked our world, easily amongst the most iconic Amiga Demos ever made ❤
Love from England.
released 29 dec 1992, I was there, and talked with Lone Starr, he wanted me to choose the background color for 1 of the scene, I kept it blue/violet . SNDK, cheers from Switzerland.
@@kennymaster900 It is possible we talked on ICQ etc, we ran the biggest Amiga Distro in the UK and also held copy parties every week at 3 venues in and around Manchester :)
All the best from Manchester, England.
Also, I used to hack/code with a guy from Denmark, back in these days, and 3 weeks ago, me and my wife went to Copenhagen to meet him for the very first time, it was a great day :) ❤
This footage is incredible. I spent the last 15 years always wondering how this was done (I guessed pretty well though) and just who the beautiful girls were that modeled for the digitizing.
I can honestly say, it was worth the wait.
I wish I could somehow put into words how profoundly this demo changed my life back then - how many times I've seen it, commented about it. Every single leap in technology to me has been about Amiga emu and playing this demo - AGAIN. Fantastic. THANK YOU!
Great to see the girls of this excellent demo after so many years!
9 Fingers and State of the Art were IMO the two most impressive Amiga demo's back then.
Thanks for sharing!
AMAZING! I can't believe this exists - you guys were incredibly inspiring and lead me to writing music for games. The programing talent, the production and the music was top notch! Thank you
This makes me kinda warm inside, 9 Fingers being one of the most vivid 90's nostalgic memory, in addition to The Prodigy Experience album.
I still think The State Of Art is better but I love this demo too :) Huikea demo!
Oh my fu*kin balls. I grew up watching these demos. First had A500 and then A1200 + blizzard 060 60MHz and it was a blast. So good times, so good memories.
What??? I got to see the women behind the vector graphics!! This is amazing just like the demo and the 90s altogether were 🎉❤
Wow the love I've still got for the demo. Is unreal, now to watch this 20years on absolutely brilliant thank you.
So that's why tech evolved so quickly... after getting a hint of pretty girls through this demo, nerds wanted to see pretty girls in full-color asap! These girls gave us a purpose!
Can't believe... What a surprise seeing this 20 years later :D
I always wondering during these years how the images were vectorized? Masterpiece those days! And don't you forget that vector animation was streamed from floppy! Awesome! Amiga Rulez!
I have interviewed Lone Starr quite a couple of years ago, and had the same question. The answer never made it into the original article in the magazine. Good that I keep my mails for centuries...
"How have you realized the motion capturing in "State of the Art" and "9 Fingers" and was it simple equipment or expensive hardware?"
Lone Starr: "No, and it was very simple equipment. State of the Art was traced by hand with a Genlock overlay and tool i developed. In 9 fingers the process was automatic, my program controlled the videoplayer, digitized one picture, traced it, and skipped to the next frame. For me the equipment at that time was expensive, about 150 Euros for the videoplayer(used the prize money from State of the Art), since it had to show de-interlaced pictures."
Its 2023 and you are still awesome the gang who made this 😊
These clips would really suit being in a Boards of Canada track just to add to the nostalgia.
I love youtube when I find stuff like this. Heck it brings back memories. I was always in awe of some of the kids out there, coding like professionals. I hope you all got kick arse jobs utilising your skills!
Funny to see that "making of" after all the years, one of the best demos for the good old Amiga computer! :-)
Best Amiga Demo ever. Always wondered how they’ve done it. Nice to see the making of. Thanks for this great Demo and making of.
That's great you saved that record for history of scene!
The spaceballs demo made history - Impressive work for the time, you all have my respect!
Great doc for a legendary demo!
They didn’t appreciate the scene they were setting. Accidental visionaries. Credit.
Just watching the demo now to test a new Amiga monitor. Damn it’s good!!! Proper 90s vibe to it. Love it.
I love 9 fingers and State of the Art!It bring me memories from the childhood!thanks a lot for posting this video!AMIGA FOREVER!
This was my favorite demo. Incredible. Thanks for sharing this piece of history!
It's amazing how significant this is to my youth and how it shaped my future! So many others in the same boat too. Awesome
Fy f!
Unbelievable footage, a credit to all involved in this one, who would have thought they'd end up so famous. Big thanks and keep the Amiga live!
spaceballs these guys were the best can not remember watching any demos better and great seeing this video - spaceballs 9 fingers simply state of the art
wooohaaa!!! thanks Teofilled for posting this! I love 9 fingers, one of my fav amiga demos. Very cool, thanks again.
Thankyou for sharing! Such a great demo - one of my all time favorites!
Awesome! That's a great piece of amiga history from a side we don't normally see.
Thanks for sharing!
Amiga was the best human achievment of its time. No other product will ever reach nearly high level of progress.
Awesome job Spaceballs did. I remember, when this demo was released how we couldn't believe what is happening on the screen. Does anyone remember what Skidrow commented about their first demo, State of the Art? It was: "How could this demo win? Lame programming and lousy track-loader" Priceless. Those were times...
Please, please, do a 20 years reunion and post it here, the Amiga masses are waiting impatiently :)
Thumbs up if you were "in love" with the brunette.
You bet, the brunette is awesome. I still want to meet her, 30 years later.
Classic music "tribal dance" :)
I love the 9 Fingers demo, and State Of The Art too. Both encouraged me to get back into programming ten years ago and now I'm working on my first (ASM only) Amiga demo :)
.

Wow. Never thought I'd ever get to see the making of this. Thanks for sharing !
lovely ! a real event this demo indeed...
Great post! 9 Fingers is one of the best Spaceballs' demos.
I've been on computer since PET and I consider this a precursor of the modern age computer animation. BRAVO! This is so nice to see the original video. Thanks a lot for sharing this piece of history of the computer world.
I remember getting the ”state of the art” demo through 14.4 baud modem and watching it several times that night.
"Nei, ikke kødd da. Vi skal jo se jo din fleskefjes" loooooool!!!
Great vid. Love the demo. Those were the days :)
wow finally after 15 years i see a backstage info for one of the best demos ever made
Finding out they were dancing to tribal dance makes me very happy
@Madbeat1
One frame at the time, pal, one frame at the time...
As far as I remember, we used a S-VHS camcorder and replayed the video with a VHS-player capable of showing the video one frame at the time with a certain degree of "stableness". Then we digitized the frame with a normal digitizer (DigiView?). Custom software were then used to "vectorize" the images. But all this is a little hazy. It's been "a few" years since I called myself Dark Helmet...
had a 3-head VHS and a digi-view clone, darn that was slooooow :/ (like ten seconds for a b/w grab) and sometimes needed to be redone
dope! how cool to see the original people we've seen so many times vectorized! :))
thanks for uploading this. huuuge part of my childhood.
Thank you so much for that !!!!
I kno its just amazing, after watchin 9 fingers back in the day! and now seeing them film all this stuff amazing
"Ikke kødd da ditt fleskefjes" hahaha.fantastisk åpning! :-D :-D
@@runewinsevik8471 haha.. Jeg lo i alle fall godt og ble straks tatt tilbake til ungdomsårene med uhøvla kreativt språk! 😂
You guys where my heroes growing up! Haha this warms my heart watching. ^^ Dritt bra
My favorite Amiga demo
I thought this was going to be a Spaceballs behind the scene with Mel Brooks thing
the 9 fingers demo was awesome, this making of video is very interesting and the two ladies were foxes!
Yes, good memories. This was one of the best demos I ever saw, fun to see how it was done. Like how the pants went aaaaaall the way up.
Bra greier folkens! Vi elska det!
lol, thanks for sharing this bit of Amiga history :D
thanks for publicationw.../ its super
The best demo i have seen on amiga with state of the art RESPECT SPACEBALLS nice gurlz it's the first time i see them at real :)
The Amiga had something special and the Demos too ;)
Nie sądziłem że jest taki materiał... szacun za wszystko:)
Always loved this so really fab I have just found this video, 242 was a good little video demo too and i would love to know where that was filmed as well
Wooow, thats a piece of demoscene history in the making right there!
:O beautiful memories actually brought to life, wow!
I wonder if the girls thought they were going to become STARS! At least they were in the Amiga scene.
Looked at Motion Capture. I Love this demo. Thx!
Man this is fantastic!!
Loved it! I am so glad the fashion has moved on though.... ;-)
Notice that at some point they dance to the sound of a C64 program on the tape. Listen carefully at 9 fingers / spaceballs (making of) , they dubbed the music over a data cassette tape using a crappy recorder. ;-)
Tommy Eastwood it's unlimited. 3 unlimited, 4 unlimited, unlimited unlimited
Exact! I'd loved to know the whole story and how the spaceballers managed to convince the girlies to be camcorded while dancing...
They were specially requested as they were entrants to disco dancing competitions. The girl on the right (Olsen) has done other work too.
exactly my though as well.. always wondered how that dark-haired girl looked like, and now i know, 15 years later :) *creds to the uploader*
Good old 90's I guess. I wonder how old are these girls today in 2012. The girl on the right is beautiful!
Outstanding !!!!
Yeah, it's amazing what the internet turns up! Wow. Thanks for posting this up :D
my godness i reall did not expected to see this :) Nine Fingers, SOTA... my childhood memories :) I'll show these demos to my kids..
Great nostalgic footage. Does anyone know what the guys are up to nowawdays ?
I guess plenty of people would like to see a reunion interview.
Fleskefjes er et uttrykk jeg synes vi skal bringe tilbake i dagligtalen :D
there is actually a making of a amiga demo. This is really unbelivebal!
Woah, I did not expect to see this. You should assemble a real "making of" from this material :-)
Am I seeng this?? amazing after all this years see this. I never expected to see this.
Word for word - exactly my reaction as well! I can't believe what I'm seeing!
That brunette is stunning!
just awesome!!
@Spaceballbrunette
You probably thought, "ah let these guys have some fun with their Amiga, we will just humor them, and having some fun in the process".
Very cool to watch. I also tought it where guys that were dancing. LOL! :-)
Cool demo back then!
Shmoovin
oh jizzz... unforgettable moves. great! :)
@Ashtree81 There norwegian, this demo brings back memories, it just shows how quick time passes.
i wish i could dance as good as these girls 😭
I'd like to see the hole crew nowadays! That would be a cool documentary!
Those girls are part of Amiga history! 💯😎👍
Fabulous! One of the best demos I ever saw anyway. You girls have been totally immortalised. Hey - isn't The Tribal Dance poor in comparison with the demo soundtrack?!
Incredible!! I want to know more things about it!! How did you get this footage?? THIS IS HISTORY!! Is there anymore to see? I wonder how did they digitalized the polygons in the Amiga... do you know was it made? Thank you for sharing this, I loved Amiga and State of The art and 9 fingers were the best demos I ever seen... Regards from Buenos aires, Argentina.
Travolta's "Testlast" is tha shiznit, I'm still thinking about remixing this track.
A piece of history ! =)
Awesome!
Released 29 dec 1992, I was there, and talked with Lone Starr, he wanted me to choose the background color for 1 of the scene, I kept it blue/violet . SNDK, cheers from Switzerland
