    Wow! From 5 to 50 yds, I didn’t hear a drop in volume. Even at 100 yds I could hear it well. If someone has to find you, I think this would definitely work.

    Thank you!! I had something similar to this when my now-adult kids were preteens, they could hear the one I had 1/2 mile away!! lol & smh -- I sadly lost it about a decade ago and have never found anything like it until now. -- $20 is pretty steep but it will be great to have a LOUD whistle again. -- Seriously, Thanx!! ;)

    Would be nice if there were a screwdriver on the other end of this, something to make it more versatile, as small as it is its still adds bulk depending on what you have on your keys already. Thanks for the comprehensive review.

      Thanks for watching. Instead of a screwdriver, maybe a mini pry bar would be easier?

    I can't imagine anybody responding to a whistle of any kind. It's just not part of or modern culture. Most people would just wonder what it was and go about their business. Thinking about this particular whistle, it doesn't sound at all like anything is going wrong. It sounds sweet!

    • @TheUrbanPrepper
      @TheUrbanPrepper  8 років тому +1

      True. It's better suited in rural areas, although maybe in the evening in an urban environment.

      Absolutely perfect if your stuck in a void inside a building that's collapsed due to earth quake or lost in the middle of the woods with an injury when you can hear search parties but they are unable to locate you. Takes up so little space almost dumb not to have one on your person if you live in a seismically active region or perhaps hurricane alley.

      this whistle is obviously made for rural areas. For example, if you're going hunting or camping and you want to locate someone you're with if one person wanders off (there are no cell phone towers in the woods so goodluck trying to call or text them). It's a must have for these types of situations.

      Search & Rescue workers do listen for whistles. Your average dummy walking around won’t think anything of it “in our modern culture” besides the fact that many people are only self-absorbed and don’t want to get involved anyway.

    I would need to use this little thing maybe less than once a decade. But isn't this so beautiful? I feel I can't help but buying one.
    Thank you for the detailed review. ♡

    Make sure you buy a GENUINE product from a LICENSED vendor or directly from the manufacturer. There are a LOT of Chinese fakes out there made with plastic parts and people have complained about their products meant for emergencies failing in just a few months. Just know that the GENUINE while from Nitecore is made of solid titanium and has no plastic parts.

    You are right for the fact it is not the loudest. The Fox 40 was said to be over 130db... Now they say 120db... Don't know why the change but it is loud...

    The "resonator" is a plastics material because it's cheaper to make that way. And a lot easier to insert. On the positive side should you get one with a sub optimal placed resonator you can push it out yourself and reinsert it properly. Done that to a few low cost chinesium (titanium) whistles. Made a big improvement in both loudness and much cleaner and crisper tone.
    Thinking of adding a whistle to my EDC keychain. Can't deside which one. Oh well. I'll probably end up ordering about every one out there and then order a few more of the best. Wish NWS20 was still available. Wonder why they stopped making that.

    • @HifiCentret
      @HifiCentret Рік тому

      By the way. It would be really awseome if the Storm Whistle was available in titanium. Titanium is just the material of choice for geeks.

    Nice review! I have the $10+/- Vargo Ti whistle that's rated at 100+db and weighs a tenth of an ounce. The version that comes on a cord is better and louder than their version that comes with a flimsy, virtually useless pocket clip and no cord hole. However, I'd really like to hear/see a comparison between the corded Vargo Ti whistle and the Nitecore you reviewed here.

    I've got this, but when I blow there's no sound... Is there a fix? My resonator is slightly slanted. Is that the reason?

    i just bought one. why my resonance made from metal and yours like a plastic? are mine fake or it just difference caused by old production and newly production

    • @TheUrbanPrepper
      @TheUrbanPrepper  7 років тому

      I've heard of the plastic baffles coming out, but I've yet to run into that problem over multiple years.

    • @noblelies
      @noblelies 7 років тому

      There should be no plastic in a genuine version of the product. You have a really good Chinese fake.

    • @ketchuppedase2867
      @ketchuppedase2867 7 років тому

      noblelies i think it it is not a fake. maybe just oldest version. it is writen 2016 version in my whistle box. so i think there is 2015 or 2014 version which use plastic resonator. in my box it is writen aluminium alloy resonator. so overall it is titanium except the aluminium resonator. why somebody would like to faking a whistle anyway? it is not everybody usually buy

    Another con is that since the whistle is made of metal, it will be uncomfortable to use and likely stick to your lips in freezing conditions.

    I Like the Nite core whistle, great for EDC. It's a shame that there are so many counterfeit copies on eBay made from cheap aluminium but marked with Nite core logo and text. Not surprising that they are cloned in China and sold from China, as a US made product..... I smell something definitely fishy!

    • @TheUrbanPrepper
      @TheUrbanPrepper  8 років тому +2

      +Puniksem That is a shame that it is being cloned poorly. I've been happy with all of my Nitecore whistles and haven't experienced any poor performance from them.

    Yes, put it in a nice little gift box so she thinks she's getting something special...like jewelry...and then it turns out to be a crummy whistle (instead of that gold bracelet she's been wanting). Seriously, twenty bucks for a whistle is excessive unless it's made out of platinum! No, a five dollar police whistle will be fine. When they find my body under a bunch of rubble after an earthquake, I don't want an emergency responder to shake his head and say, “If only he'd had a larger whistle.“

    Learn how to whistle and you won't need a $20 whistle to begin with. I can whistle louder with my 2 fingers than most whistles. Maybe not pitch, but loudness.
