Fake Airpods Pro vs Real Airpods Pro & how to tell the difference Sept 2020

- Apple Airpods Pro are fantastic headphones and sell for a high price. Soon after launch, fake ones appeared. Now, almost a year later, nearly PERFECT fake copies of Airpods Pro are out in the wild.
I bought these fake versions on eBay thinking they were real. I had a set of real ones (direct from Apple) to compare them with. Most of the online videos or writeups about spotting fake Airpods Pro are old and do not cover the advancements made by the copycat manufacturers.
These fake copies of Airpods Pro are nearly perfect. If you did not know what you were looking for, you would buy these for a high price and assume that you were getting real Airpods Pro. You would not be any wiser until these either broke or didn't work as well as your expensive purchase implied they should.
A few things to note:
1. These paired with my iPhone exactly as the real ones did. Auto identified by my iPhone and then walked through the setup by Apple on the iPhone.
2. Pressing the nub on the fake Airpods Pro turns on noise cancelling or transparency mode just like the real Airpods. On the fake versions, neither mode was as good as the real ones but, without having the real ones to do a direct compare, I never would have known the difference.
3. The microphones on the fake ones are not as good. People on the other end of the phone line said I sounded fine but not great. Once again, without a direct comparison, I would not have noticed nor would the people on the other side of the call notice.
4. On eBay, these were obviously not marked as fake. They were priced just barely under the price I would have paid for refurbished real Airpods. This is especially pernicious as more sales and deals are starting to pop up, which makes the slightly lower price plausible.
5. Do NOT buy Airpods Pro from any eBay seller with a new store or without a large number of ratings.
Be careful out there!

One more very subtle thing, in minute 1:28 if you compare the first line of the text starting, on the authentic one’s box the first line is in BOLD while the first line on the fake ones’ box is not BOLD.

Very helpful video. A few things I also noticed it that the back of the box written is completely dark in color. The real ones is dark in one side and grey in the other. The date will say ©2019 because that’s when they were released originally. Also the verbiage is different on some of the stickers and in a different font style and size. Scripts are only two lines vs three lines. It’ll indicate serial number and the mAh but never the model number. The SA Energy logo is smaller and it will never give you the option the read messages after pairing to your phone. The AirPod Pros original box has a smooth texture. The fake feels like cardboard

I'm glad you mentioned that the interior casings are plastic. No other real vs fake video/article I've seen mentions this. Other than that and the fact that my actual earpods housing came apart at the seams with little force, the fakes are very high quality. The ebay seller I bought it from has positive reviews from people thinking they're authentic.
Yeah but what was the price? If they’re charging $250 and selling them as authentic then that’s a problem, however if they’re listed as knock-off/counterfeit then I have no problem buying them if they’re significantly cheaper
I was literally abt to purchase one from ebay… some reviews raved abt these and some were extremely disappointed. This was a huge red flag bc with fakes its very hit or miss.. could be some are legit and some arent. Either way, i aint buying them.. id rather go thru apple and pay a little more..
Nice noticing about the cardboard vs plastic insert, maybe one of the last things they can catch. I wonder how Apple is going to combat these.

@@badasstrapbass2313 no, the original owner got new pairs on the warranty, and was suppose to return the ones sold to me. Since my original post, I bought from the Apple store.
Just bought some from Mercari, watched all the fake vs real videos and everything matches up. (flush front led light, serial on box matches the one from inside case. the pair button click sound. the packaging is immaculate (cardboard insert vs plastic etc), rubber earpieces have mesh. paper box cover slides off slowly with vacuum feel not fast like fake ones, airbuds pair and have noise cancellations and you can use find my phone to find them, tested and it works. etc etc etc). Also when i ran serial through apple it showed real earpods pro but purchase date not verified, so i input my purchase date and it now shows apple care valid through March 2021. Only thing does not match is each individual earpod has a different serial then the on the case and thats on the box (which match each other). item was sealed never opened and packaging seams were immaculate. So does each of the actual earbuds serials have to match the inside of plastic case and paper box or can they be different?
I saw another video and apparently the buds have different serial numbers. Basically he said don’t trust serial numbers and try to look for imperfections.
Each AirPod has different serial number. But under the left side of the charging case the lettering and serial number should be right. Apple store told me mine were fake when I came in to see why mine stopped working. Plus when you looked up the serial # of my AirPods nothing showed up. They must be getting actual serial number from somewhere idk. But the cardboard box on the inside and lettering/serial # under the left side of the charger case should help you determine if real or not. Plus sellers are pushing unopened packaging as a big sell because they don’t want to expose the truth of the inside packaging. People can actually find out if real or not by a few pics or feel for yourself.
The mesh is probably the biggest part I didn’t know they had that lol

The best way to know if Airpods are original: LED hole in the front of the Charging Case is kind of grey and in the fake ones is black and if you go to the settings - info, together with the iPhone serial and info, there must be serial, firmware version of the Airpods
I have seen review of a fake Airpods Pro that has the charging case LED hole has a diffuser. The Chinese fake designers are getting closer and closer.

@@voidovert6517 If someone sold you a fake Airpods Pro claiming that it is original, only Apple can help you to confirm that. Start with checking the product serial number in their website.

Just bought mine of Ebay, so let's hope they're real. The serial number is real and have a valid purchase date + the apple care until 2022, so praying they're genuine.

When companies don't have the capacity to manufacturer all their product, they outsource manufacturing. Fakes may actually be real products with poor 😕 secondary manufacturing. Hence the perfect "performance" of the product.

Did it have the “spatial audio” option? I wish I would of seen this video I hr. earlier. The only tell was the plastic and the ear extras didn’t fit in well but it had the mesh. Noise cancellation is perfection but I didn’t see the option for spatial audio
U gotta update the firmware on the real airpods the fake probably won’t support spatial audio

WOW, the serial number too WORK? MY goodness.
While the serial numbers show as “real” I assure you they are not. The clones are very close and unless you own the authentic you probably won’t know the difference. On that note… *do not take those into the Apple store* if you have an issue. Even though that serial number it is a real it’s a *duplication* and customs will seize these at the border if they catch wind. Most people are buying these for themselves as a cheaper alternative. The clones are very well done and operation is around %75 of the real air pods in terms of functionality. They improved the transparency and ANC significantly in the last few months. I have no issues with people buying these as long as they’re it trying to sell them as authentic like people do on Facebook marketplace. On that note great video 👍 If you’re looking for the newest chipset of the PRO I can help you. I have a new batch coming in and hopefully these are at %95 efficiency. They’re really nailing these chipsets and have gotten so much better in the last few months.

What's crazy is that I just bought a pair of fake air pods pro and everything he critiqued of being fake are fixed... only thing the same is the plastic holder. They added the mesh and the tips don't fall out either.....

You can’t actually change the ear tip to small/large as they don’t have the mesh bit that clicks into the AirPod.

One more thing that I noticed that I haven't seen mentioned yet is the bluetooth name. Genuine seem to use camel case, fakes do not. e.g. Real = "AirPods" vs. Fake = "Airpods"

Knowing purchased fake AirPods Pro’s from Ebay about 3 months ago for $65.00, sound quality OK, ear comfort OK, charging OK, Bluetooth connectivity OK, here in Aust. AirPods retail for about $350.00, to me is there a $300 difference between OEM & fake...no.

Serial number is always on the left side under the lid. I took my fake pair into the apple store to get looked at and the guy behind the counter recognized mine were fake by the packaging/box lettering. Then he lifted the lid and the the serial # and wasn’t on the left side and the lettering was off. If you’re not buying from Apple Store or Apple supplier check the lettering and serial number under the charging case lid.
Mine have all exact same as original ones , except for the serial number that appears on the right side of the case . Should this tell me they are fake?
@@ilyassfannoune7696 most likely are. If you haven’t gotten them from the Apple Store or apple retailer, I would assume they’re fake. I see many people walking around with them and I doubt most of them came from apple store. You can check offer up or Facebook market people have boxes of AirPods.

Disappointed to say I bought fake ones for $50. I just thought they were stolen lol, but the little inconsistency’s are noticeable without having the real ones to compare. The sound it makes when you connect them is like a damn android, but when you put it in your ear sounds exactly how it should, that’s what made it obvious to me.
I mean you can’t even compare the two. The internal components are infinitely better quality on the real ones and you’ll get non of the integration with your iPhone like the real ones

@@vinous. really? I’ve heard they sound pretty good and almost unnoticeable... however I’ve also seen clones of clones with some having much better quality. It’s crazy because these are all made in China and they clearly have the materials and engineering down. They can just setup they’re machines to make them to the same dimensions as authentic Apple. The only thing I can see being different is the proprietary chip that Apple uses. But I’m sure they can engineer a their own copy that does most (if not all)of what the authentics AirPods do.
