    Nice to see you back!
you need a substation transformer now.

Grounding the transformer secondary center tap when feeding it 240V means that the transformer will be trying to even out any phase imbalance in its supply, which will eat into its effective capacity.

Of course! Unfortunately I’ve found that with the groundwye configuration the low voltage coil and tank will develop a capacitance voltage potential difference. I’ve gotten some small shocks from then touching the casing after energized. I just ground it out just to reduce it, the inefficiency is a cost though.

@@metersocket00 What you can do is ground only the tank instead, as that is what the primary winding is connected to. There should be a removeable primary/secondary grounding jumper.

That would actually work great! Using a jumper did not cross my mind, I did not think to ground the case then with the jumper when not energized. I will have to try it.

@@metersocket00 The jumper is the thing you would disconnect. You don't have the jumper fitted the way it would normally be in service which would be from the secondary center tap to that threaded insert welded on the case right below the Solomon logo. It looks like your jumper goes from the secondary center tap to the case ground lug near the bottom of the transformer tank. What you need to do is disconnect this jumper and connect your 240V supply ground and hotstick electrode you are arcing to to the case ground. The secondary center tap will then have nothing connected to it.

DONT DO THIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET SHOCKED, BURNED OR KILLED

I located a pole out on some abandoned land which has a sweet fat Bruce Jenner sitting out there all cold and lonely... Got the face cut put in with my chainsaw today and will make the back cut by hand at night. For shits and giggles I'm going to use the system I use for launching my ham radio antenna wires into trees, to lob a fine copper wire up and over the two high wires and hopefully NOT cause some massive phase to phase laterally traveling arcs. Either way will be fine with me. I've had my eye on this beauty for awhile and have planned for months and prepared to tactically evacuate this poor abandoned Optimus Prime, to a safe warm laboratory in an undisclosed location. If it's not possible due to excessive danger or other extenuating circumstances, well than it won't have been meant to be. I cannot find ANYWHERE to buy (or I should say SELL me, for less than the price of a large condominium. Being I'm not a utility...)one of this size. Price is the limiting factor. Sometimes you must risk it for the biscuit to achieve greatness. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ROUTE OF ACQUISITION TO ANYONE! Guaranteed prison if caught. Death (horribly) if done without knowledge and foresight. The cost to replace just the pole is THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. ITS ALL ABOUT LOCATION! This one I've mentioned has set there FOR YEARS on an overgrown lot with blackberry Vines growing higher than my head. Number one is making absolutely sure being caught is not a possibility. #2 is transporting and safely keeping the device in complete secrecy. #3 is not killing yourself/ the unit, OR anyone else OR causing a citywide blackout/dropping live main distribution lines. So wish me luck gents.
