  • In Solomon Islands, one provincial leader is pushing back against China's ambitions in the region. Since solomon islands switched its diplomatic allegence from Taiwan to China, there have been significant developments in the country .. including a large sports stadium in the capital Honiara. But there won’t be any similar projects on the island of Malaita any time soon.

Australia owes a lot to the Solomon Islands and in particular Mala’ita…..because a lot of our families where taken from Mala’ita to build up Australia economically in the 19th and 20th centuries through blackbirding and got paid nothing, and our old people have many descendants in Australia as they where married into our Aboriginal and Torres Straits peoples.
So yes Australia must and have to do more as this is a moral obligation and right thing or start looking at reparations for that practice.

Well said. The shelling of Sinaragu Harbour and its interior was ordered by the British using an Australian warship.. some crimes cannot be forgotten eh.? History was recorded hence we cannot deny the facts. So like u said yes Australia u owe us Solomon Islanders.

Don't jump on the Chinese modernization, look at what is happening in Africa. The "Bally Bridge" from WW2 may well last another 50 years, but limit the car traffic and then it is also in line with the "environment". All strength to the Solomon Islands

Pakistan, Sri Lanks, and many other African nations lost their territory and resources to Inhuman thugs. don't let that happen in Solomon Island, If you allow thugs you lost forever.

Malaita is the only island in Solomon island to allow many Chinese to do business in Auki town of Malaita,,, receiving most project from Chinese taxpayers,, have a lot of women married with Chinese men,,, most people employed by Chinese in Solomon island are malaitan to feed their families,,, however they make a lot of noise so that white people could believe. The most island s in Solomon island contributed in resources are Gaudalcanal, Western province, Isabel province, makira province, choisuel province, Renbel province, then just malaita province, central province and lastly temotu province,,, This is in term of resources that are economically helping Solomon island

Among all the 9 provinces Malaita have the manpower to do whatever they can do and the government uses them for longtime.Every development in Solomon islands are mainly contributed by Malaita ns .If we left Solomons islands the all of the other provinces we be poor.So allow your resources for govt to use Malaita will not allow its resources to be used without their own people's benefit. Enough of fooling people with your few resources.

@@lingkenfiliteku3950 Bro are you generalizing here? Malaita province with the most manpower is a fact, because it has the biggest population. That is no point for contention. But when talking about resources, you need to be specific if you want to elaborate on the term "resources" because I think almost all the other 4 major islands or provinces geographically are endowed with resources just like Malaita. Your statement really contradicts the facts. Cheers.

And Malaita is not open to business even to Solomon Islands Government. Too much land disputes. Staka major projects no eventuate because of land disputes at the Malaita Island though having a share of natural resources and apart from HR is contributing little compare to GP, WP etc.

There is hope, but only after Manasseh Sogavare is moved from Prime Minister - his title should be Prime Traitor. No Chinese foothold in the Solomon's - Solomon Islands for Solomon Islanders

Elon Musk might help. Invite him to your island...maybe he will have advice that will help your infrastructure.

Elon Musk doesn't care for the environment he cares for popularity that creates profits.
he also owes Twitter a lot of money for pulling out of the deal that he could never afford.
