The plant area is the old TraIn shed used until the High station was built in front of it. They like keep old station in Madrid, another one is the Madrid Railway Museum 15 min walk from athoc ( or a train ride)
With living near the costa del sol for the last 17 years, this train has been on my bucket list for so long. But I've just not had a reason to go to Madrid! Considering it takes 6 hours to drive it, that 2 and a half hours is just amazing!. Flying takes about 45 minutes, but with check in, and waiting around at the airport, there really isn't much in it.
Nice review! Have taken the AVE (meaning high speed Spain) on the same route a few times and agree, it is great value for money, even standard class is comfy and clean. What strikes me is how smooth and quiet the train is compared to e.g. German ICEs which tend to rattle and being less smooth. With the AVE you look outside and think, we are not going that fast and then the screen shows something 280-310 kph, mind bending.
Thanks for the video G,get a suntan laying on the ducks nose until you flew off. Awesome countryside sooooo relaxed looking at you sooooo relaxed!!😎🚅🚅🚅🚅🇬🇧
😍😍😎😎😍😍😎😎😍😍Traveling by train is the best pleasure for those people who like to see the landscape. It is also good that the train stations are usually in the center of the cities. Traveling by train in Spain is a pleasure. Thank you for sharing. This video!!
I did the same journey back in November 2022. I think it was two sets and one uncoupled in Cordoba. Anyway it took two and a half hours and I enjoyed every moment.
I've never been to Spain. I planned to go on my last interrail trip in '92 but there'd been a big argument over money and Spain had pulled out of the scheme. The scenery looks amazing and that plant filled station is lovely. Great video!
You really did get some stunning scenery on your journey, didn't you? Very impressive seating for standard class - almost like first on many of our own train services.
Doing some last minute research before my trip to Madrid tomorrow night. Making stops in Seville, Cadiz & Valencia so definitely hope to be a train pro by the time it’s over. Just hope I can at least buy a ticket for my 1st connection before I leave.
Brilliant video G, I'm not sure I want to know what the smell was lol. The plants at that station in Madrid do look beautiful. This route you've rode on does have some amazing views as well. :)
just found your channel, nicely done a new viewer from SW Montana.....hopefully we will get back passenger service here soon on what used to be the North Coast Limited.....cmon Amtrak do it
Hello. Interesting review. We travel to Madrid frequently from Málaga. Always use Iryo. Is there much diference between the Renfre and Iryo.? you used Iryo from Barcelona
The Renfe Ave trains are great and as with IRYO they could teach our train companies a thing or two about quality of service. When i was in Spain last year with my fiancee we travelled on both IRYO and Renfe and the prices were i'm sure you agree G insanely good value.
Nice to see you on a train again Will be interesting to follow you The bad thing with Spanish rail network is that it doesn’t cover the country well and except for the speed trains are the services not very frequently
Ahhh Malaga. That’s nice. Went there last autumn. Warm. Nice. Good food! Do you have time to stop and breathe in the atmosphere and eat good food in the sun, or is your trip just early mornings and as many trains as possible?
You should have a couple of weeks in Germany in the summer with the €49 countrywide ticket it’s valid on all regional trains local bIss trans and metros I’m sure you’d enjoy alps one day and Baltic coast the next lots to see with some amazing lines like the Schwartzwald railway and Sylt island railway

Or even the centre of London? No worries, at least the UK has "world beating" everything, especially since Brexshit. Or maybe not!
The Spanish railway system puts ours to shame, better ticketing, better connectivity, faster and cheaper. Also you can get a seat as people respect the reservation system.
Whereas the high speed network gets all the government funds, the regional rail network and some suburban networks seem forgotten by the government, with many stations being served by just one or two trains a day and frequent delays. The other regional rail companies (managed by the regions’ governments) are of a much higher quality, such as FGC, FGV, SFM and Euskotren
we did, -we paid in to the eu for 40 years and it gave Spain the money via structural funds etc to build this system of high speed rail. that's how it was paid for, Spain didn't suddenly ,in 1991 ,come into billions of pesetas out of thin air. we (and France and Germany) paid up and Spain got the flashy railway because that was the deal in 1973 ie that the richer nations would subsidise the poorer ones and pay for them to upgrade. -high class maybe, but objectively a failure thus far with passenger numbers now only around what they were supposed to be at two decades ago. so in answer to your question, quite a lot of that money went into things like, for eg, Spanish high speed rail infrastructure. by definition every pound that leaves the uk and goes to someone else's coffers in one pound less for our infrastructure...

Hi G great content thank you x

Hi G, love your Spanish series of video blogs, A great price for the train ticket, you must have booked in advance.
Thanks and yes I did

Awesome video, Got to ride a Talgo Train. When are you coming to America, I would love to travel with you & Lucy?
Im doing my training for TFW ..... Your video may or may not have popped up in the training material 😂
Train companies are noticing you 😂❤
Haha as long as it wasn't one where I was twerking 😂. Na in all seriousness TfW are brilliant and super friendly! Good luck with your training 👍
Fantastic video:-) will you be doing the Malaga metro.
A friend of mine tells me that the green area in Madrid may be an old station.

Haha I honestly don't know what the smell was 😂
It's quite tropical in there, even some ponds. The smell will probably be decay and humidity
I would be very interested to see you visit germany! Particularly munich, or hamburg

Hi, both Renfe and Iryo were brilliant, I'd happily ride either down! The ticket for this was a great price 👍
Thanks for the video! What about luggage? Where does it go? I’m traveling with my family and in a panic about where all the bags go😮?🙏
No worries 👍 there's overhead luggage space and bigger luggage racks as you enter the coach
great video G
Very duck like and I have seen pictures of similar duck billed high speed trains in Japan too.
The nose shape isn't for aerodynamics, it's something to do with the noise when entering tunnels at high speed.
Keeping the locals happy
A Frecciarossa on a domestic spanish route. I associate frecciaarossa with Italy. And it looks the same.
These trains look lovely. So much better than UK trains. I must pay a visit to Spain again soon

How long is the journey, plus do you know if it's possible to get a train from Bilboa or Santander to Madrid, as my daughter hates flying
Yes Renfe run those routes 👍
Nice to see you on a train again

The bad thing with Spanish rail network is that it doesn’t cover the country well and except for the speed trains are the services not very frequently
Thanks and not sure how often the in-between stations are served

Yes speed!
Still there

Strange we in Britain can't provide a high class service like for that price that isn't it?-where does all that money go? Yeh right!

-high class maybe, but objectively a failure thus far with passenger numbers now only around what they were supposed to be at two decades ago.
