    I really appreciate how knowledgeable you are on the Steam Deck, as well as your honesty on performance compared to other systems, this was great journalism and not a hyped sponsored video. I have had my steam deck for well over year and these are nice upgrades but not nice enough to abandon my deck. Sort of like I didn't switch out my switch for a switch OLED.. For now I will stick to my deck as much as I love the legion go but I really want a generational upgrade from the Z1 extreme.

    • @paulszki
      @paulszki 8 місяців тому +2

      Though this does seem like a more substantial upgrade to the steamdeck than the switch oled was, which was basically just a nicer screen. The list of improvements that other (and this) reviewer have pointed out, are kind of impressive.
      I can absolutely see though that if you have the original version, that you kind of just get used to the "flaws" (comparatively) like the slightly higher temperature won't bother you, you got used to the battery/recharge cycle, you're fine with the screen, the fan noise is what it is etc. I don't think I'd jump to an upgrade myself if I already had an original steam deck.
      But MAN is this a thorough upgrade at this price point even. I think Valve really earned some plus points with a lot of tech reviewers, and of course, potential customers, with this one.
      And I think for original steam deck owners it's just great news that steam is sticking to their device for another couple years. More steam decks being sold, will also mean that developers still can optimize for that one target spec and the refresh putting it into more players' hands.
      It's really a win for everybody (old users, new users, developers). Like I don't even own a steamdeck and 90% am not going to buy one (I don't have a good argument to get one, besides "I want it" 😅) but I'm just really happy how this is such a huge win for proper mobile gaming.

    • @robertwendal5894
      @robertwendal5894 8 місяців тому

      @@paulszki as a long time user of the steam deck my problem is that originally we knew we would be running games at 30fps, that's fine on a 7 inch screen, but that's not the case anymore, newer games are barely playable on low settings. Where the Ally and legion are pulling in 40-60fps on the same games.
      If I didn't have any handhelds I would pick up the legion go today, but I'm waiting for them to go down in price like the Ally already has. The steam deck hasn't aged well and I have a 512gb model, I love it, so does the community, but we are all noticing it's not keeping up.

    • @paulszki
      @paulszki 8 місяців тому

      @@robertwendal5894 I guess it's really a matter of expectation. People are loving their Nintendo Switch despite it being even weaker, simply because most (not all) games that are released on the estore, and especially in the digital format arte specifically targeting the switch hardware or being more or less optimzed for it. Nobody is expecting wonders (ha, mario....) here anymore.
      Meanwhile you can theoretically try out most games on steam that would never even be attempted to be ported to switch. E.g. you CAN play Cyberpunk on Steamdeck and be slightly disappointed that you have to dial the settings down. Or God of War, or Starfield. But you can't even begin to hope to play that game on a switch, so there isn't much disappointment. So sure, you could get the Rog Ally or whatever other alternatives are out there by now, but aren't those also pricier and are missing some other key features (e.g. touchpads)?
      But really, I feel like it should be a matter of setting yourself the right expectations for the form factor and the price at the given feature set.
      I have a pretty potent PC (3090 & 5800x3D) so for me a steam deck wouldn't be my primary gaming device for tripple-A games but realy just games that suit the steam deck. E.g. the steam deck should be a great device for a game like Baldur's Gate.

    I appreciate Valve's software approach more than competitors going for raw hardware power -- Valve is focusing on long-term software support, looking for developers to include Steam Deck specific performance modes in their games while also continuing to improve performance on the OS level. I feel like a Steam Deck is going to last a lot longer in someone's hands than a Windows-based handheld PC that will have discontinued software support in 1-2 years. I prefer that they're trying to create a better user experience on this refresh so developers can CONTINUE to get used to developing with the Steam Deck in mind before coming out with a big core hardware upgrade. I'd MUCH rather have this new version's hardware that's cooler and less power hungry for a handheld than be able to hit PS5/XSX-level graphics while the thing sounds like a jet engine and lasts for only 1.5 hours on a charge.

    I've had my Steam Deck for over a year now. It has been my prefered way of gaming for the past year. Seeing this I'm definitely tempted to sell my old model and get the OLED. Not just because the nicer screen, but the better battery life, less heat, and quieter fan would greatly appreciated. I just want to know if i can slot my current 2TB SSD into this and be able to continue on as if on my old system? I have things set up pretty much the way i want them to be on ny current Deck, and the thought of having to redo all that does sound annoying.
