There were mature Bay Trees already planted in the garden when I moved in. I'm forever cutting back shoots coming up around the trees. I would never plant one in the ground.
I use my own compost, but anything that’s good got a grown agent within it, personally I’ll go for something on the lines of miracle grow. With every going Peet free, Iv decided to try and get as much compost at home, start of small and you will soon have compost, Remember to try and add a root hormone as well to give it the best chance of germination. Thanks you for watching my video hopefully it helps. All the best with it Dallas
No is the simple answer, with out being blunt, It will still need to be free draining so it doesn’t sit in water all the time as it will rot out if your not careful.
Hi Amy!! Yes I would definitely use a root hormone, as for how hard is it, it’s a hit or miss Iv got one out of 3. So I’m happy with that it’s free so worth having a go
The volume is a trail with a new set of Bluetooth microphones. As for roots I’ve got 2 out the 3 that I plant still small roots as the tree takes years to grow to the size of the one I planted. It’s a very slow process. But worth it.
Hi there, my bay trees have small black spots on leaves here and there. Google says it can be a fungus, but they look as bad as the Google pics. Is it normal to have some spotting, are they still healthy? I've repotted in new compost and fertilised them in the hope that it will solve the problem.
Hopefully that’s will sort it out, with re-potting this time of the year, not the best time, but things can be done to help. Keep watering it well at the base of it, give it some support if it need it, try to keep water off the leaves when watering it more so if it’s in the sun as this can burn the leaves. Normally rain doesn’t affect this so it can rain Be in full sun and be ok, Try to water well at night, this will give it change to soak up the water rather than the Sun sucking it straight back up. Hope this all helps
Find a strong Leaf node and cut it off from there strip 80% of the flowers and pop the bace in some grow hormone and stick it some good compost, keep it damp and hopefully you will get a free tree from it
I would never plant a bay into soil. They put up side shoots all over the place. One of my neighbours now has an entire hedge where runners have emerged on the other side of the garden fence
@@DiggingwithDallas Actually, there were three bays planted into a bed right up against my side of the fence. I keep them trimmed including the runners. My neighbour doesn't cut anything back. They moved in about seven years ago and now the bay trees on their side of the fence have formed a virtual hedge. In some places it's a good deal taller than the fence itself. Interestingly, one of my bays seems to have hollowed out at the base but otherwise still looks healthy and still puts out loads of runners
@@phedrob3735 , sounds like you have plenty of fresh bay leaves to use in cooking, dose add flavour to dishes, fresh bay is better then dry bay in my opinion, use it more when cooking curry’s and slow cooker dishes
Fantastic achievement in a short time Stuart, well done for the 100 subscribers and growing !
Thank you John!! Some people make it look easy to grow there sub I have but so happy to of hit that 100 mark!

Wow Indonesia, a long way from home in Lincoln Lincolnshire (uk) best of luck with it.
What potting compost do you use or recommend for a cutting?

Hi mate,Can I plant the bay tree into the pot which doesn't have hole on the bottom?!
No is the simple answer, with out being blunt,
It will still need to be free draining so it doesn’t sit in water all the time as it will rot out if your not careful.
Would you consider using root hormone? Is bay easy or difficult to root from cuttings? Thanks. Great video.

@@DiggingwithDallas thanks, I'll give it a go with 1 cutting and 1 air layer.🤞
@@amysnipes4245 I hope it works for you. They take years to grow but worth it.
I was having problems hearing, the volume is very low. My question is, how long does it take for the plant to get root?

8 weeks.

My bay tree has a strong side shoot How do I propagate it please

@@phedrob3735 I love them, the smell is beautiful I’ve never seen a hedge from a single bay tree. They take years to grow big.
