I’m in my mid 40 now and this man is still my hero. I still have his action figure too. What a legend
I will pay you 10 grand for that action figure, sir. I have been looking for it since I was a child in the early 80's.
@@costumeninja1914 you could probably get one cheaper than that of eBay. Tempting offer though 🤣
@@costumeninja1914 You can't have looked very hard there's some on E bay for 20 pounds so probably be about 27 dollars u.s
His was my first childhood "hero."
Same here, it’s a bit dusty but I still love it 😂
Love Mr. T's self confidence. He doesn't come off as arrogant. But his confidence is overflowing.
This is so true! I don’t know how, but he pulls what you say off and it’s not common
Congratulations David for being in love with another man 👨
He was done for stolen valor, he was exposed as a fraud navy seal.
Having been born in 1980, I grew up watching Mr. T. He was a real life superhero.
Same here, same year
Watching him as a kid I thought he was huge with bulging muscles lol
@@mrafam626 yeah he seemed a lot bigger back then
Lol
He definitely is one of the coolest person you’ve ever met. He came to my school in Chicago when I was in the fourth grade and motivated us so much!
@@catastrophic3 Was he in character when he visited your school ? If yes what desire did the motivation steer up in you?
The amount of charity, spirituality, and entertainment this man had put into the World is unparalleled. What a phenom he is.
👉👌👌👍
We are talking about David right
@@Mixed-Media-Arts Yes, I heard he was very charitable with the interns.
Dave got less funny every year until the very end then he morphed into a Talisman
He was a good dude., Tyson and T had so much in common like a 360 think on this one..
Liked how he broke out in that huge smile at the end of the interview. Mr T. Always stayed in character until the end.
I was thinking of the same thing
He might exaggerate a bit, but I believe what he says - i respect his views on personal space, security, money, and his family heritage
I thought he was just being himself, was he not??
*because he was taught to use 'The Strasberg Method' for his days in wrestling*
They don’t make ‘‘em like that anymore. He’s a pro. He’s actually being very very funny just the way he talks. It’s all a rouse.
He said he would not take any trashy roles. 👏🏻 I wish more actors had this standard.
He knows more about taking only great roles than the other guy who used to tell everyone to "know your role, and shut your mouth " apparently his role is anything with a check at the end of it.
And Mr T had a successful acting career doing just that.
..no trashy roles... yeah America's toughest bouncer is right up there next to academy awards,, OOPS I mean the Nobel prize ceremony for world peace and general philosophy on the no-trashyness scale...
When he said "I take my time, I want to control my own destiny" that hit me right there
The man had his own cartoon, a good tasting cereal, and has a huge heart. Very pleased he’s still alive.
And the "A" Team!! Hahaha
A wonderful person..
Heck of a cereal 🙂🙂
You forgot action figure...
I pity the fool.
Sitting there looking scary while talking about how his money goes to helping kids in the community. Absolute legend!
yeah and look at Dav facial reactions when MR T keeps saying Money 😅🤣
Un gran signore
Damn imagine looking at a man and saying “oh no he’s intimidating af”
The 80's was such an awesome era. People like Mr T were bigger then life characters who really exemplified the meaning of celebrity.
He was always the American Jimmy Saville to me.
@@darthkek1953 Uhhh... comparing people to Saville draws some pretty messed up parallels these days. I doubt Mr. T is anything like him.
Ali was the first of his kind, then Wrestling culture took over that and Mr T falls into that mold
No doubt about it and wow what a weird perverted change has happened in just the last 20 years! If only more of America had the values Mr. T has and was promoting in the 80’s then this whole world would be such a better place. Unfortunately the world has the moral values of people like Pedo Joe Biden smh!
YES, celebrities nowadays are often trash! (like so called internet celebs)
"First name is Mister, my middle name is the period, my last name is the T." Amazing.
From what I rememebr
, Mr. T was one of the most soft spoken, and humble people in real life. When asked why he wore such ragged shoes when he had so much money, he replied... I have a nice house, a car and all this gold, but I'll never forget where I came from, and pointed at his shoes. Gotta respect that 🤘
He got rid of the gold after Katrina. I think he said God told him that it would be disrespectful to wear gold with so many people poor and without homes after the hurricane.
@@williamshaw9047 Wouldn't doubt it. Sounds like something he might do. Much respect to him.
And I love that he refused trashy roles. He had a lot of pride in himself. Such a good role model.
@@carmaela2689 Yes. He is a very wise and respectful person. Humble and classy wrapped in gold chains and a Mohawk.
Mr T is such a funny guy. But he also makes serious points about poverty, struggle and human goodness. He is a great guy. I hope he goes on for many years to come.
Honored to meet Mr. T in person back in 2000. Such a sweet sweet person. I love how he brought so much intensity to this interview to great effect and held it until his REAL personality cracked through right at the end
The T stood for Tolerant during this interview... Fantastic Man.
He knows he's hilarious but he looks dead serious all the time. One of a kind man!
Deeeeeeead meat! 😐
😁😁😁😁
@@BenjaminGessel llll
I know. Unlike him, most of us don't have the talent and technique to do that.
King of Kayfabe. Dude would have been the GOAT of wrastlin' but he was too big for such a small role.
Mr. T really spoke truth in this interview. So proud he was an influential part of my childhood.
I used to know a big goofy white guy named Mitch, he was the biggest Mr. T fan he went so far as dye his hair ( just to different)purple, the cut it into a mohawk, wore over 20 gold chains around his neck, one had a medallion that was a big letter G,a ring on each finger a couple of them had a G on them. He said to us a work that from now on he wanted to be called Mr. G ! Mr. G we asked what does the G stand for, he said it stands for great, everyone responded-- we thought it was for Goofy !!😀Speaking of Goofy, they wouldn't let him and his friends into Disneyland, but I think because of the t-shirts they were wearing, one said Kill Mickey, the other one said Disney Stinks !!! Not because Mitch( Mr. G) was trying to look like Mr. T! Don't know what became of Mitch because that was over 30 years ago, but he was sure a character!😀😀
A-Team was my jam as a kid. As an adult, I grew to learn how wholesome this man really is. Need more people like this in the world.
My mum( who's an 80 year old Scottish lady) when she saw him on the A team intro, was always " I love his smile, he's got such lovely smile" still cracks me up
That was amazing! Dude stayed in the character the whole time. I love this sense of humor
Think he was just honest, besides the ball sqeezin 😂
Mr. T is the embodiment of kayfabe.
People are laughing, but his responses seem serious and genuine.
A lot of it was nervous laughter.
It's an act, you foo
Mr T is just playing along, it's (partially) a character he plays.
@@rum-ham I understand he is projecting a tough, over the top character, as he would be accustomed to doing as a bodyguard, and as the audience would expect after playing Clubber Lang, but fundamentally, most of his responses seemed honest and straightforward.
@@neuvocastezero1838 Yeah I think there's a lot of truth in what he says and how he portrays himself. I just meant that he is in on the joke. He gets why people are laughing and he is trying to get them to laugh, like when he said his middle initial is "." 😆
Super articulate and confident, that kind of man doesn't exist in the mainstream anymore unfortunately.
A calm, strong man from a bygone era!
He started to crack a smile at 1:12.
You can't fool us T, we know you got a heart.
Look at if personal life of course he got a heart.
Ummm he wasn't smiling he felt disrespected and he was 😂 and if you listen to him he was disrespected the day before and disrespected today and he didn't feel like being disrespected on the show cause he was disrespected in every other possible way
I like how deep, well spoken, & educated Mr. T is 80s icon
He is actually very funny, and does well at keeping a straight face. I didn’t realize that about him.
As much as it sometimes seems like it, they don't just put anybody on TV. These are talented performers.
That's precisely it. Mr T was trying to start some comic interplay with Dave, but the relative newby (Dave) was too intimidated.
@@Rex69Rutherford Come on...they both had roles to play...it's show business
@@Rex69Rutherford went over your head
he's a full time body guard. To this day. He's protecting Mike Tyson, right now.
But you're surprised he's a good actor.
8:52 that ever so subtle smile and glimmer in the man's eyes. This guy is obvs a legend, I've known about him since I was 4 or 5 years old in the mid-90s, but nothing could prepare me for the amount of heart and sincerity he approaches every single path in his life. Whatever his upbringing was, Mr. T knows what he is about and knows the value to his presence. He really wants to educate, advocate, and entertain. Very inspiring use of his talents and I hope to follow in his footsteps in this way.
I've met this man before, (I used to see a lot of celebrities at my job) and he is one of nicest celebs that I have met.
Who else did you meet? Who was really nice? Who was really rude?
I met Dick Weber the great bowler, one of the nicest people ever!
This is the hardest interview ever.
Seen plenty of Mr. T over the years to know he was playing a role while sitting in that chair. Well done.
He almost broke character at 1:12 😂😂😂
He was one of my heroes as a kid, but what an inspiration...great man and great interview
Man really loves his community on the south side. He pours his heart, life and money into it and the people there. He’s a real hometown hero, yet he’ll never admit it. Best example of humility.
A Beautiful SOUL! My friends and I were never afraid of him or found him scary...we respected him!
T is just about the nicest guy in the world, from everything I've ever heard about him. This is just a great in-character moment.
He is. My sister met him once . She said he was very nice
I'm glad you brought that up.
You can see at the very end when he broke character and was all smiles and laughed. Like he said, he is a good actor.
*Mr. T
What an absolute legend, humble, aware of his black ancestry and positive as well. No wonder he was so loved in the eighties.
He's not ashamed of God or talk about him that is what makes him special Mr . T you the greatest good bless
He actually lives the humble, honest, generous and pious life, vs those who wear religion as a mask.
Mr. T was truly original. He has always maintained a tuff guy persona. All the while he's very witty, giving back to the community and just being a good person.
This has got to be one of the most charmingly funny interviews I've seen.
I know, right? This man is both wildly charismatic AND has a big heart
So much charisma, intelligence and wisdom. I feel he was capable of doing much more than he did outside of film and television. Regardless he is still a star that shines bright. ✌️N❤️
Being retired getting to watch several vids on people. Never knew how wonderful Mr. T is
Happy retirement! 🙂
I really appreciate Mr. T. He has been a positive force in our culture.
I respect this guy. Straight forward, says what is on his mind without sugarcoating things.
Very generous and about his business.
I saw this interview many years ago. I'm glad to be able to watch it again. It never gets old.
I just saw it for the first time. As a child of the 80s, I only knew him from The A-Team. This interview shows him in a different light. Very impressive.
It's very clear that this is a nice guy with a sense of humor as well. The tough guy stuff is simply the Mr T persona.
This was hilarious. Mr. T is playing a character and Letterman plays right in so well.
He was very serious when he was talking about, his haircut and his jewelry. No one did ask his or my ancestors, if their chains were too heavy
@@anuncolonizedmind6296 never asked a eunuch either, of course they were from all races so of course not. specific agendas and biases perhaps? ask the people of Africa, did they use chains, huts for captives or did the buyers bring their own?
My Irish ancestors were oppressed and enslaved across the atlantic and colonised by the British, Catholic church, and now global corporates. We just didn't have any cool haircuts or any style for that matter to revive, except for our love of potatoes. Ask an Irish person, they will have very firm and serious views about potatoe crisps. Offer them Walkers or Lays and you'll get a long lecture about 500 years of English servitude.
@@peterlarkin762 Grandmother was a Mahony, family associated with o'brien's and Mcmahon's. many yrs ago.
Mr. T is amazing. I have so much respect for this man.
This interview reminds me of Mr. T. and Murdock's interactions in the A-Team. This was sooo funny.
My middle name is "period" 😄
I love his funny and cool timing when he says "yeah" to the secretary joke,
Mr. T is so awesome. I love the stuff he's done with Conan O'Brien too. Hilarious.
That's what I remember the most. Some of those bits were gut-busting funny! I remember Conan's charting Mr. T's progress in terms of "fools pitied" over the years and feeling like I was laughing at two geniuses.
Another example of "they don't make them like they used to". I was always a fan of Mr. T. My grandfather used to watch and record episodes of the A-Team when I was a kid. He used to love Mr.T and Murdock.
That smile at the end canceled all that angry hostility.
Yeah he kinda ruined it by doin that.
@@ghanasoul He was just being gracious at the end. But, yeah, it can burst a male fan's bubble when he cuts off the vicarious experience
My wife-unit ran into Mr. T a few years ago. He couldn't have been nicer, more genuine or more humble. He even gave her a Mr. T sound effects keychain for me. SO nice!
Well spoken and strong in character as well as physically. Liked when he smiled at the end. 💪🏾
Mr T was the truth!!! I grew up in the 80's and he was definitely a force to be reckoned with then and now. Mr. T is a born again Christian 🙏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 #goodinterview 3/11/2022
Ok brown hands
Mr T stamped my childhood. I am glad I grew up in the 80’s.
MR. T was my childhood hero and still is much respect to him always. So glad I was born in the early 80s.
He needed more applause breaks after some amazing things he talked about.
I think the whole building was intimidated lol
Never realised how clever his Humour was
He was even a couple steps ahead of early-80's Dave, here. In a few years, Dave became confident enough to play the foil
Mr. T the one and only. Love the man. People use to say he had the A-Team van parked in back of his home in Harvey. I stayed in Markham and always wanted to see it but never did. That van was the shyt.
Mr T is a dam good person . Will always have my respect
Even as a white kid from PA, Mr.T was my absolute hero as a kid.
Still to this day such an awesome person. Glad my childhood idols didn’t age poorly and still retain their amazing qualities.
What an amazing man! I’ve always respected him.
As a comedy fan today I can see that Mr. T is a real comedy genius. In 2023 You don't get whole comedic personalities that never drop out of character. People like Andy Kaufman, Mr. T, even Sgt. Slaughter were unique products of their time. I can't think of a single actor today who method acts a character so hard off stage the character incorporates into their actual personality. This is like a historical time capsule into a type of acting that doesn't exist today and its amazing!
Like imagine if Dwayne Johnson never stopped being "The Rock" and just kept it at 100% peoples eyebrow for 30+ years. Its remarkable.
Mr.T never thought of himself as a actor, yea he's kind of playing a character but he's probably that character.
Especially Sgt. Slaughter
The undertaker
@@shoppingwiththechard9262 The undertaker is another good example who basically lived the character until 2020.

Such a great character actor.
Legend has it that when he went to the Rocky 3 premiere with his mom, she stood up and told him “I didn’t raise you to act like this” and walked out.
Mr. T is a real treasure.
Heard Grandma.
Loved seeing that beautiful smile on Mr. T's face at the end
I love how he breaks character at the end
That was nice of him to allow himself to laugh
He almost did several times during the interview. Dave was struggling holding on too. 😂😂😂
I loved T as a kid and I still do today.
Bless this man ❤
Congratulations Sean on being in love with another man 👨
Mr. T is so awesome and highly underated
I never seen him smile before. I only watched him in Rocky movies, but wow he has a amazing smile and he's handsome.. what a guy with a warm heart and soul! He's pure gold! Wish all men are like him.
He smiled in the A-Team all the time.
This is one smart guy! I use to think the whole outfit was just kind of a wrestling kind Of gimmick, but everything about him has a message and history behind it!
He controls and commands his own life! I love that!
Well said. You remember him as a caricature, probably. He had become so wildly famous, that we lost track of both his authenticity and his incredible charisma/ talent
jeez..are we that old?

1980s will never ever ever be duplicated. the shows, the films, the celebrities and personalities, the music, everything was original and fresh back then, now everything is just a computer generated imitation of 1980 films already made.
This guy is way deeper and much more thoughtful and truly decent than people Gove him credit for. Listen to what he actually says. Great guy. Hope he's still well.
I watched him when he won the Bouncer Competition. An amazing guy.
jeez..are we that old?..the midget toss

Rocky 3 shot Mr. T up the Hollywood ladder, later on landing his other iconic role as B.A. Baracu's in the A- Team with elite actors like George Pappard. Good for him , he's a good dude. Also he's a God fearing man, he's not a sellout like alot of today's actors/artists

Congratulations Derek for being in love with another man
I saw him at a buffet in the late 80's. Pulled up with Mrs. T each in his and hers Rolls-Royces. I'd never seen a person eat as much as he put away. It was amazing. Plate after plate after plate. Restaurant lost money on him that day.

I hope you did.
Ever see the episode of Silver Spoons where Ricky hires Mr. T to protect him from a bully?
I like how the audience was laughing and judging the book by it's cover before he even spoke.
I loved when the A team always had to knock him out to fly because as I kid I was a little scared of flying so it always made me feel better knowing Mr T was too.
The crowd stopped laughing fast when he explained why he wear his combat boots.
A once in a Lifetime kinda star.

There is a sense of honor and importance to performing security work. I can relate to what he is saying. Some of us feel like we were put on this earth to protect others. Mr T will always be humble, inspiring, and entertaining.
Mr T is a virtueous person w a lot of character which is missing in ppl today. He was and is a great role model for me and others. David is a gem of a host.

"They might get killed" .... Dave got real quite for a moment there. 😂

The guy is a legend! Took quite some balls to dress up like that, but it is true, you would never forget him
Brilliant actor a hero of the 80s respect. Watching from Scotland peace and love to all
He's done good work his whole life, worrying about others instead of himself. I've watched him growing up and definitely learned a few things, and this is a very old interview, so pretty interesting
My grandmother was a fan of Mr T band the A Team, back in the 80s. He had universal appeal.
He is a living and loving legend
I was always a fan of Mr T. When after his fame with A team, his cartoon, amongst his other work. I had the opportunity to see him in person he was in downtown Los Angeles he would volunteer and bring donations to the homeless shelter. Mr. T was everyone's role model...period. Very positive influence. I wish I could hug this man and say thanks. He deserves a hair more respect from Dave.
It seemed like Dave definitely respected him. Was probably even a little intimated by him, Mr. T was serving him up joke opportunities. He seemed very interested in Mr. T's story. Though not as relaxed or as seasoned a host that he would later become.
