You aren’t. Because Yamato proclaimed the desire to become Kozuki Oden, Kaido decided to throw him into a dungeon, and he claims it was even more justified as Yamato also awoke to Conqueror’s Haki. During his time in the dungeon, he came across a nasty fruit, but was so hungry he ate it anyways.
Same way luffy did. He just saw something to eat.
