It turns out on the website it does not say the Jack works for the Stinger, not sure if I made a mistake or it was changed after I pointed it out. Either way it’s there now and I want to make sure I correct myself.
I love Gridiron's stuff, and I love the way those look, but I hate the way they mount to the vehicle. Everyone else seems to love them, but I think they look absolutely goofy. They are just too wide, and I'm not talking about the tires. I like the wide tires. I'm talking about how the wheels mount to the axle. They don't mount as deep as the standard wheels, and as a result they look like those goofy 4X4's teenagers drive that have cheap wheel spacers to give them that spread out stance. They look great from the side or from an angle, but looking straight on at them, the wheels just don't set deep enough in the wheel well. I'd still like to get a set for my VAMP, because I think I could modify them to get them to mount right. I really appreciate your unbiased review. You are one of the most credible reviewers out there.
Just for clarification, the wheels can be pushed in further that what was shown in this video. They can be pushed in as much as the stock Hasbro wheels. I can see why Punk did not want to push them in further as you do not want to break anything. As far as looks, to each is their own as I really like the profile and it looks more like a fast attack vehicle now that can go offroad.
@@tkjaer21 Thanks for the info. I've seen several videos where the wheels just looked too far apart, so I didn't know if that was just how they were made, if they were not fully seated, or if it was a trick of the camera. I love the way they look otherwise. I may pick up a set.
I will definitely be giving the wheels upgrade a miss. To say that I’m not impressed would be an understatement. Thank you for your honest review Lawrence.
Nobody seems to be testing whether the larger tires still allow for the suspension to spring at all, or not at all. This is a huge component of whether I would buy these tires or not.
Sorry about that. The shocks do work but you do lose some play as the wheels are a little bigger. But because the front doesn’t turn you don’t have to worry about wheel rub with turning
I had the same problem getting the tires on, but I eventually got them fully on. I noticed the thing about the back of the Stinger and the rear tire mount when I was opening one of my Stingers, looks like only my Vamps get spare tires. The Grid Iron stuff is expensive but it does take both the Vamp/Stinger to another level.
It's an easy fix I did it with mine. In the back of the Stinger there is a piece of plastic where the gas cans are supposed to be. You can take a very small knife and pull it out without damaging it. Stick it back in than take the piece that attaches to the jump seat and put it through it's a perfect fit.I panted mine black. The spare stays in firmly
Sorry, need more info... I see the insert you mentioned, but what do you mean "pull it out" then you say "stick it back in"? Did I miss something? Really curious, because I want the mount!
I have a feeling something will be coming to rectify this, but either way it’s a miss on their part and needs to be explained where this can cause issues if you buy it for the Stinger.
Dame Lawrence your Cobra vehicle is looking dame ,dame wicked brother, man punk i need to get them rims and some of the turret wepons ,i need two but can not swing two
Very informative review! I had planned on getting one set for one of my Vamps and one set for one of my Stingers but after watching this review, I might not do it. I’m not sure that I like how rigid those tires are…..on one hand, they look good to me when the vehicle(s) are displayed but I have two boys that actually play with them, occasionally, so if they don’t roll very great, I’m not sure I want to spend that much $$ on them.
I think the offroad tires look better on the Vamp than on the Stinger, since the Vamp already has a more off-road look to it with the lack of doors and roof. And also, it's too bad they supplied 4 identical tires, which makes the threads on one side seem different than on the other (since the thread is not symmetrical). They should have mirrored the print and supplied 2 different sets, and marked them L and R. now its just lazy.
I have to admit that I expected those aftermarket wheels/tires to be more expensive. $35 isn't chump change, I guess, but I would have thought they would cost more. Regardless, I don't usually tend to buy add-ons for my toys. I think it's a side-effect of my OCD or something, lol. I think a lot of the stuff Gridiron does looks pretty impressive. They have some pretty talented designers working for them! Thanks for the review!
It say nothing about that spare being for the Stinger on the site, just cause the color my match well with the Stinger. It says Vamp, MKII and custom jeep not Stinger. I think it's implied you can have a red or green jack. Great review as always sir. I'm thinking about going with the Equalizer or SAM for the weapon system.
Hay Lawrence im not to up on grid iron but i think I had missed if u said but what did the tires set u back and did them come with red anodized on the rim or rivets
Thank for the review, but come on Punk. Do you not look closely at pictures before you buy an item to know how far the wheels stick out? Maybe not when you’re handed stuff to review (not trying to slam you). Btw, on Gridiron’s FB page they show a quick video tutorial on how to install and what items are needed to add the spare tire. But I do understand if people are unaware of their Facebook page or don’t have FB. Question- how does everyone seem to know that you can’t add much of Gridiron’s VAMP/Stinger accessories without FIRST adding the roll cage? Is it explicitly stated on Gridiron’s website in each entry where the spare tire add on doesn’t mention the needed gunners chair accessory?
Not that I can see and i should have shown why you can’t. The Vamp’s gun turret had a piece that came off with a peg on it, the Stingers missile rack doesn’t. That’s why I don’t see it working, and I did try to pull it off.
@@Apunkwithtoys thanks. I wanted to order the rollcage but i might just wait until they make actual Stinger versions. Same with the bullbar on the front, I dont like the green on the machinegun. I hope a Stinger version will have that in black so I dont have to paint it myself.
These tires are too wide for my preference. It's a shame because I really want a set for my vamp and the stinger due to the rim designs. The big "puffy" tires make the design of the vehicle look more like a playskool or a preschool type toy. I wish there was an option out there with replacement rims but not with such huge, wide tires.
Yeah I don’t think it’s gonna change many minds that they’re hard, but have to point it out as it is a big difference than what the Vamp and Stinger come with.
For me there's always a delicate balance with all these add-ons. At what point does it no longer look like the Joe vehicle and start to resemble something else entirely. This set feels like a pass for me but thanks for the review bud
Thanks for the info! I appreciate the honesty which is why i keep coming back to watch your reviews (other than you are a nice person yourself Lawerence :) ) !
@@chemicalreaction7788 so I did get the wheels on all the way after people sent me pics of how far they go on. If you like the look and you’re ok without rubber wheels I think you’ll like this.
Those tires go real well with the stinger phase 1 upgrade 😁

To get the tires on, I heated them a few seconds with a hair dryer. This way, you can go all in.
So the question is, do the tires go on all the way to where the hubs are touching?

I like the other peripherals that Gridiron has, but these wheels look a bit too cartoony since they appear disproportionate.

Tires are too wide, they look ok on the truck but the spare looks stupid sticking out that much.
Those wheels look to big especially on the front. How can it turn. I would keep the back tires on. And leave the front with the original.
This is such a necessary tutorial. People will buy stuff and it won't even fit their vehicles. Lol
that they are not soft rubber is a deal breaker
