He definitely cheated and it's so surprising how so many people still fail to see this. It's statistically impossible and his response report was bogus. Just one of many people getting off with no reprecussions after an 'apology' I suppose

Now the reason why the squid won, before the minecon event happened some big modding youtubers made a mod of what they thought each mob will be like in game. For there version of the glowsquid they made it emit light and they made it drop a item that makes a new potion which was vary OP and unbalanced. Its effect being that it will freeze your enemy’s when hit with the potion. This alone was not a bad thing but the problem was one of them also reports Minecraft update news on his YT channel and some thought that’s how it really was going to be like. It also doesn’t help that he made the title and thumbnail as clickbiatish as possible. That all said I think it’s safe to say what drove the squid to actually win was not Dream but rather it was clickbait and community mods which mislead people on the actual features. lets be honest, if dream hadn't behave like a douche this wouldn't escalate that much, but instead of keeping a cold head, he gets quickly defensive, like a teen that got caught but still thing he can get away with it but it's behavior only makes it worse
It’s so hard to watch as a semi-fan, because I completely understand and empathize with him. I’ve got severe ADHD too, and I know what it’s like to immediately lash out-rejection of any kind hurts far worse for us, can even be physically painful from tiny things-and is hard to manage. That doesn’t mean the behavior is ok, but it’s like watching someone get mad over traffic, you get it, you know, but that doesn’t mean it’s acceptable to have road rage like that.
As techno said: I realized now that rank number 1 isnt an achievment its a prison that forces you to dedicate your life to defending a temporary title but now with the war finally over im free
what i think is so funny about the whole situation is that when dream stans thought the mod team made a mistake, they sent death threats. When dream said "yeah i actually cheated lol," his stans said "Its okay everybody makes mistakes"
One thing that bugs me to this day about this drama is the claim “Why would Dream cheat when he is so popular and so skilled?” It is not uncommon for the best players in a game, electronic or athletic, to resort to cheating. Saying Dream would never cheat because he is already one of the best Minecraft players is like saying Lance Armstrong would never dope because he was already one of the best cyclists, or that Richard Hatch would never sneak in matches because he had already won survivor.
I agree with that point. That's not why I believe he didn't cheat. Dream seems to be an honest guy and unless he blatantly admits to cheating, I won't believe it. Just because odds seem to be against him, doesn't mean that he cheated. Odds are against people all the time. People are given a couple months to live and then die of cancer, but then live 50 years more. The odds of getting struck by lightning are 1 in 9 million. Lots of people have been struck two, three, or even four times. One man was struck 7 times. Odds that seem totally impossible, happen all the time. That's something to think about
@@tyson_3301 the problem is that Dream had those spectacular odds in many straight games over a period of many days. Go see the Standup Maths YT channel to understand just how spectacularly unlikely it is. It isn't just one unlikely game.
@@inthefade Yes I understand that and I've seen his vid. I've seen most of the videos claiming he cheated. I would definitely say it's a possibility but I still don't fully believe it. I've been checking the math myself and it leans a lot closer to what Dream's astrophysicist math was. I'm not done checking it though so I can't be too sure. The odds def aren't in his favor, but there are tons of his games that he's played where he had a lot worse luck, whether uploaded or not.
I think people are forgetting something. Dream isn’t dumb. He knows that his fans will believe anything. He knows that he can’t talk down his stans or he’s gonna lose 1/2 of his subs. He knows what he’s doing and is very self aware.
Do any of you realize how much effort it would take to stage 40 minute plus video? Just a 3 minute long script(for example) would take up like 5 pages in google docs. This isn't even about Dream being a good person or not, I just think it's much more plausible all of the things you point are just bugs, luck, or Dream being good, than him actually scripting everything from the start.
And then after all the drama died down he was all like "Ok, I cheated, but it was an accident!" out of nowhere, like what the heck??? How do you accidently cheat???

Yeah i wouldn't care if he cheated The fact that he submitted it proved that he thought he could get away with it He probably though he was trust full enough and had dozens of stans would make him invincible And now look the mighty had fallen
@@iuruoy-shao he wasn't only toxic towards the mods but toxic towards people who agreed that yes he indeed cheated which was quite unprofessional of him considering his audience size.
When faced with conclusions based on objective and explicit statistical analysis, dream stans continued to defend dream's actions. I think it is safe to say that if dream had humbly admitted to cheating and moved on, people would have forgiven him. So why didn't he? That says something great about his character and integrity as a person.
What's funnier is, Dream stans, in no way presented factual evidence to support their claims. It was like trying to build a tall tower with no support (pretend each brick placed is a defense comment from a stan), it's bound to collapse and make things worse.
@kermitderfrosch That what we call petty argument, if you can't win against math and objective evidence; throw them some trivial shit. That's how Dream and his stans works.
@@putent9623 he cheated in a speed run, a competitive environment where everyone is spending hours to get the best time the best strat. But how in the world would you prove wrong doing in statistics without using statistics? Also his speedrun got taken down, all he could come up with was 'I was lucky", used an astrophysicist I think, to write a paper about statistics what a clown. Ironically someone who never cheated would also forever deny it. For the record, I believe that Dream cheated. I also believe that comment is made in bad faith. "Your honor, the defendant just claimed they were innocent. That's what a guilty person would say". While completely ignoring that's also what an innocent person would say.
@@madebyshiny He had to after Stand-up Maths made a video about it until then this was a case for the speed-run community and Dreams fans after this million saw it joined by the who is who of youtube in the comments . Thats the smart thing to do. The way to delete controversy is to leave it in the dust and make people lose interest. It’s still very good to apologise for your actions though, apologise and then leave the mistake behind you. Don’t forget about it completely but also don’t drag it out and shatter your reputation like Dream did.
It's also shows people how easy it is to cheat. Like dream had hours upon hours of evidence but all you actually need is to submit is the run. Like if dream did cheat which he probably did, why didnt he just submit that run and not stream hours and hours of it. Surely he would of knew that it would of backfired. But this whole thing has made people think about other speedruns, one that don't stream it for hours. To think there is a lot of people cheating behind close doors, there should be better ways to stop people cheating
The issue I have is both sides don't even prove anything. Dream failed to prove he cheated with the incorrect information and scetchy recourses and the other side failing to prove he did cheat. They proved he was extremely lucky with calculations they did on probabilities. They didn't prove anything
@@universaljoyconboyz4ever161 That depends on how you're defining "prove." It sounds like you're proposing a 100% standard of proof. But by the standard you're proposing, nobody could ever prove anything, literally ever.
This is just sad, to be honest. I don't watch this guy, but the outright manipulation of young, impressionable fans will lead to adults in the future that reject facts, math, and science. That it doesn't being right or telling the truth doesn't matter, just how loud or how famous you are. We definitely don't need more of that, especially here. Ultimately, Dream knows in his own mind what he did. Even if he had gotten the WR, you still live with that knowledge that it was all fake. That has to have some weight, unless you only care about it for the views, clicks, and money. Very worried about the trend of anti-intellectualism we're seeing in recent years.

How Dream got away scot-free, I honestly don't know. Was he too big to fail? Does he know how to control his fans that well? In a QnA around a year ago, Dream stated that he entered the UA-cam scene prepared. Unlike almost all other UA-camrs who simply got lucky with the algorithm, Dream spent hundreds of hours reading on internet fame, researching the ins and outs of other youtubers and making his own notes. His upload topics were methodical, he knew that he was going to blow up. And it makes me wonder, did he also read up on crowd control? How did this incident not send him crashing down into obscurity? Dream almost certainly knew he'd be caught when he modified the drop chances especially since he knew the modteam hated him. It's obvious that Dream didn't prepare for this. He was obnoxiously rude in his first reactions to both the modteam and the original exposee video; you can clearly see his temper leaking in both those first responses. He then realised how bad that made him look, and reconstructed a much more constructive comment. So did this mean he wasn't planning to be caught? He must have balls of steel to cheat then. But alas hindsight is 20/20 and Dream got away with a net positive. Did he deserve it? No. Did he get it? Sadly, yes. This drama is more of a testament to how gullible and impressionable his audience is, and how they're basically puppets to him. He would not have existed on social media anymore if his audience had their own brain. It's honestly terrifying the amount of power Dream has, and this controversy is but a tiny peephole into just how strong Dream is.
Imo dream should have been banned from speedrunning, this shouldnt have to affect his channel as his channel is not related to speedrunning, but i am still dissapointed that he did not get banned
While on same topic on video I made a comment explain my feeling on dream fan base And i said If he ever think of to complety destroy another UA-camr He could do it so easily.

@@Exhalted1 First of all he DID admit it to it back in may 30th or some point like that so I can already tell you did little research. Secondly it wouldn't have "dire consequences" at all regardless. Most people don't give a fuck and just watch the manhunts regardless because they find them entertaining. Especially the fact his audience is 10s of millions of young kids just growing up with Dream's content, as the older generation did with older MCYTers, most of them don't even know the drama happened but probably wouldn't even care as much either. That's the difference between someone like Dream whose audience is mainly young kind compared to someone like James Charles back with the Tati drama where he lost like 2-3 mil subscribers because his audience was mainly older people and they actually involved themselves with that.
It's honestly sad that I can't no longer enjoy videos from Dream, because of this incident. The fact that he was cheating and now he is exploiting his young naive audience are the proof of how manipulative he is. When you're a famous youtuber, your mistake will stick to your image forever. Maybe Dream will be more mature in the future, maybe he won't, who know. But we know for sure, Dream is so rich now that he can live with his mistake forever no doubt. His stanbase (not fanbase) will defend him forever to keep his ego stand. I don't hate Dream, I just disappointed that I couldn't set that aside and enjoy his videos like before.
Yeah his massive boost of popularity has gone straight to his head. With this fame came a crap ton of stans too. He was also supporting Stan culture and never addressed the issues. That’s why I stopped watching him
To be fair, I can't blame his fans for believing him since being a Dream fan pretty much goes hand-in-hand with not having the ability to think critically. It's not an excuse, honestly, it's quite sad, but expecting critical thinking (or any logical thinking, as a matter of fact) from a minor in the 21st century is unrealistic.
Welp, he finally "admitted" to cheating. By that I mean he said that he "accidentally" left some mods on when he started the run. Edit: Wow the stans are down here in the comments still defending him, even after all this.
Karl's video does go into a lot of detail and it seems more likely now that Dream really didn't know he had modded his drop rates, but nonetheless it was lazy of him not to check and the way he reacted was immature.
And all of his fans believing him 🤦♂️ there are a lot of evil things in the world but among the worst is spreading lies and misinformation. And it’s not just in UA-cam controversies. It’s in every aspect of our goddam lives from elections to the adds we see to stupid conspiracies. Lying and deliberately spreading false information should be more punishable. At least by that much. I could see 50 to 75% on the blazes going unnoticed (and in fact it did originally), but 5 to 15% on pearls? A 300% increase? HELLO. The real irony of the whole situation is that if he'd just managed to hold off and not cheat (or not play at all, given how intolerable the 1.16 meta of the time was for him with regards to pearl rates) for two more months, he'd have been around to see the advent of new strategies that almost completely removed pearl luck as a factor toward good runs. I think that the worst part is that Dream, with his popularity, had the ability to make something out of this. He could have made a speedrun category called something like "Perfect Luck". Using a public mod where the run was based on skill instead of RNG. There WAS potential for something great, but he decided to publish a cheated run.
It's all kind of happened anyway. There are tournaments that use datapacks to bind RNG luck to the world seed, so that both competing runners get the same exact drops. There's a tournament that uses a mod to guarantee certain drops within a certain number of opportunities for them. The meta of the base game itself has become wildly less dependent on pearl barter RNG since bastion strats became widespread in December or so. There's even an entire separate category right now, called FSG, that boils the essence of playing a "random" seed down to as close to its bare minimum of pure skill as it'll probably ever get -- after finally being "discovered" by a few top-level runners in the past month, the WR is down to 7:16. He could have been happy playing any of these.

After Standup Maths, a mathematician stood up and talked about it, analyzing everything, I am so convinced that he must have done something to his version of Minecraft. Like, how the heck could he get chances so slim in the magnitude of 1 in a fifth of a sextillion? It's just absurd. I loved dream a lot, and this has disappointed me so much that I stopped watching his videos for a while.
the real reason why Dream got in such a massive controversy is not the act of cheating itself but how childish he was in his response, he attacked moderators that were just doing their job, made stupid and fake excuses just to later admit that he cheated "by mistake" (which is clearly not true, let's be real, if you use a mod for your videos and get accused of cheating, the first thing you think is that you might have forgotten those mods in your folder, you don't randomly remember about it when you are sure you can't get away with your false excuses) and only later apologized, after the damage was done.
Well, the sources he used(essay writers) didn't actually provide him the name of the writer - even the person hiring the writer doesn't get the name. Putting the legitimacy of the sources aside, It's a bit unfair to use that bit as evidence to say Dream is lying - Because it's also out of his control.
While naming the professor would've made it more believable, you have to take some things into account: 1. The site which Dream got the professor from states their people are to be anonymous so if Dream is being genuine he probably doesn't even know the professor's name himself. 2. Would you really wanna be known as a harvard graduate evaluating a controversial Minecraft speedrun? 3. He would probably get tons of hate.
My opinion is that I dont hate him if he cheated or not I hate him because of how stupid he reply on the arguments like he just doesnt think of what his saying and his just manipulating his stans to protect him smh :(

I stumbled upon dream's channel when it was very small, it had 9k subs at the time. He was creating cursed Minecraft content and I really liked it it, so I decided to subscribe. He then started the series that I think started his career, where he was trying to find the Pewdiepie seed. The seed was then found by him and a couple of other people which grew his channel to 30k subs. He continued doing funny Minecraft stuff. Even a video where he would give 1$ to anyone he sees with his skin in Hypixel. But his channel suddenly blew up, when he started making the "Minecraft unsolved" and his modded series with George, his channel started getting into everyone's recommended section, it grew rapidly from 50k subs to 1 million in only 1 month. He then started his speedrunning series, from this point on, his videos started being low quality, unedited videos. His channel got like 2 million subs a month from this point on, and his content started being more soulless, I lost most of my respect to him when he started cheating Note: most of his old videos are now deleted
The guy really really singlehandedly kill the legitimacy of speedruning, why? That guy basically prove that you can say screwed the rule if you have a huge audience.
MisterEpic, the reason Fabric API is no longer allowed today is that it can be used to hide other mods in your mods folder. This means that the most likely scenario is that Dream used it to hide a mod that manipulated his luck.

As Karl Jobst said “Cheaters don’t cheat to get a faster time, they cheat to get a time faster”
@@ZachtheMudkip exactly what I was going to quote

@@ShadowRLX moving on doesn't mean cover up.
@@a_dreamer8612 It definitely doesn't, but I feel like he was trying to move on rather than cover it up. I don't want to argue any more about whether I cheated or not, *because there's not much I can say. The drama had already been going on for a month or 2. That's just my opinion though, you can respectfully disagree.
@@ShadowRLX You can only move on from something if you *admit* to first, its how you move on. it was getting out of control for dream as all the data sided against him so he decided to sweep it under the rug under the guide of too much drama.

The biggest problem is he used his toxic fan base to make sure he was exempt from all criticism.

1. The site which Dream got the professor from states their people are to be anonymous so if Dream is being genuine he probably doesn't even know the professor's name himself.
