I'm so thrilled to have been in attendance for this all time classic. I've never marked out harder, and the energy in the building was unreal. I hated that Austin lost, but quickly realized that he had won when the fans chanted for him after, as I'd already been doing for years.
It wasn't the only time that Austin lost but ended up looking stronger as a result. Right before wrestlemania X7, he lost in the 3 stages of hell match against Triple H at no way out 2001. It's easily still the best ever 2 out of 3 falls match ever, it's bloody fantastic from beginning to end. And though triple H won and Austin lost, it actually made it look like there were no winners and that they were as evenly matched as could be, with both of them being knocked out at the end and triple H just happening to fall on top of Austin and so getting the pin that way. So they both looked 100x stronger after that match, it cemented Triple H as a main eventer for ever after and not just someone like, say, Jericho who occasionally held a world title but was most often a midcarder in his time with WWE. Trips was a made man, after this match. And Austin already was huge of course, so it's amazing how it actually made him look even stronger and better, especially when he actually lost the match. It was an absolute master stroke. I don't know who was the agent for that match, maybe Bruce and Conrad have done an episode on no way out 2001 already and so have covered how this match was put together. If they haven't, then I really really wish they would. Maybe I'll have to become a patreon supporter just to be able to donate money and be allowed to request an episode topic, and so I'll pick no way out 2001. But yeah it goes to show to all those idiot smarks who think a strong face being pushed to the main event can't ever lose because then they think it'll ruin their push and make them look weak. All the people who are actually knowledgeable about wrestling know that if you do it right, someone can end up looking STRONGER by losing, not weaker. And Austin did that at least 2 separate times, once with Bret at mania and the other with Triple H at no way out 2001
@@duffman18 The worst kind of "smark" is one who thinks they know more than everyone else but winds up spewing nonsense and sounding like a fool. That No Way Out match is considered to be one of the dumbest bookings of that era because of each fall being a different type of match. So every single fan knew ahead of time that it would go all three falls no matter what. The angle leading up to it was also stupid in how it turned Rikishi from a badass into a stooge.
Its the best match of all time, definitely. No one can top that match. Both guys give their very best. Hitman Vs. Stone Cold will always be a Legendary Feud in my books.
@@rzn2258 That match sucks. If it was shorter, it could be the best ladder match, too bad shawn and razor are both selfish scumbags who made the match longer so other matches could get cancelled.
"He gave them a chance to come clean and was disappointed." 😂 😂 Had Austin just passed out without blood, could this company have ever turned into a billion dollar company? Thanks for the job security, Bret!
I was at the event. Poetry in motion. Bret came out during the main event to further cement his heel turn that night. Best match of all time and 1997 was a pivotal year for WWE. This match catapulted the rest of the Attitude era
I’m assuming when Bruce says they looked at the “iso tapes” he means they looked through the footage from each camera and found the shot of Bret gigging him in a camera angle that wasn’t shown in the actual broadcast.
And yes , its the greatest double turn of all time . I can only think of a few others but this was on the biggest stage for one to happen . Killer match . It for sure stands the test of time . But seeing it live as it happened was incredible . Both guys were perfect . The crowd was hot . You cant ask for much more in a match .
I'm not sure why people are shocked. Bret was generally getting booed by older fans. Kids and women did cheer him. Most of the older fans were rooting for Austin at that time. Vince McMahon had clearly decided that he had no plans to push Bret as a top face of the company by 96. He just wanted Bret to job new guys at that time before Bret leaves. Bret Hart wasn't a draw and that's why even after insisting Vince refused to sign Bret.
Definitely my favorite match ...... Textbook double turn .... Textbook in-ring storytelling .... Textbook how losing a match can make someone even stronger than they were coming in
Something never quite added up with this notion that only Bret and Austin knew. The whole point of bleeding in the first place was so Austin would not have to submit. He passed out from blood loss and Shamrock was forced to call the match for Hart. And there is no way Ken Shamrock thought that quickly on his feet after seeing the blood and not knowing it was coming. So he had to know it was going to happen.
What ??? I'm almost positive I've seen Steve bleed before that In WCW . Wargames maybe ? It could have been hardway I guess . Ha! SEE ! I typed the first part before they said it and came back to edit it . I knew it !
Notice how good Bruce’s recall is when he is being honest
How do you know if he’s lying or not? You weren’t there you loser
Vince was so upset he made a t-shirt of Austin's bloody face.
blood stone!!
Exactly
Every time I hear that stupid Creed song I always think of Austin’s bloody sacrifice

The standard for how to do a double turn. Top 5 mania match of all-time.
that's sick! place must've been electric

@@duffman18I always loved that match and a very interesting finish. Basically, HHH won because Austin collapsed 1 second before he did.

You cant see where Bret gigs him. Sure you know when it happens but you cant actually see Bret cut SC

That rivalry was so well done that it was easy to think that The Hitman and Stone Cold genuinely hated each other...
Bruce’s lips are moving but he’s not lying here. Put that in the history books.

Match of the 90s
Bret alwaysss gave CLASSIC matchesss! Unlike hogab, hbk, hhh, taker, flair and sooooo onnnn!!!!
Unlike Flair? Lmao how old are you? 😂😂😂
Pritchard is so full of shit. He didn't see the cut at all
I still remember the chairshot from Austin on Bret while he was on the ropes and Lawler shouting "its wrestlemania baby!!"

i wonder if bret painted it that way so he would take most of the blame and protect Steve from the office
Yeah Vince gave them a pass after seeing they did it deliberately but when he knew Flair and Savage did it on purposed he fined the hell out of them
Well this arguably the biggest match in wwe history, this cemented Austin as a star
Bet Bruce does have plenty of pictures of himself as Hulk
Why?
Bret is known for his magic lol bleeding in matches without permission, piper wrestlemania 8 bulldog in your house 5
Love that match sooo muchhhhh
That picture is hilarious 😂 always hated hogan Brucester clever lol
Bruce talks funny when he lies
