At least they actually showed Ms. Bradley getting arrested for the repercussions over sleeping with her underage student, and didn't try to overally romanticise the relationship. Also, rest in peace to Diane Gaidry, who played Bradley, who sadly passed away in 2019.

Yeah, this movie is obviously inappropriate but, that was the whole point. It's a movie. I still like it and find it more appealing than most lesbian movies. RIP to Diane Gaidry who played Simone. She's from my hometown, Buffalo, NY. It was really sad when she past. Cancer Sucks.

Watched this movie a week ago for the first time and i freaking LOVED IT! I loved it so much that i re-watched it again. Although i don't agree with your negative view about this movie your comedic approach is more than welcome. Made me giggle so much! So here is my piece about Loving Annabelle: I heavily watched this movie from Simone's point of view mostly. That is to say i felt way more connected and resonated with Simone's character and i wasn't that focused on whether or not the relationship was illegal. I just wanted to see and feel what the movie was trying to convey.
Simone, the poetry catholic school teacher is clearly being hounded by this 17 year old new student who is very brave and daring, looking at Simone with those sexy eyes, sending her flowers, making her feel tempted and questioning her morals. But also helping her face her issues about Amanda's death. In a way Annabelle kind of helped Simone but also put her in so much distress from their first time together till their last. Of course not only distress but also being there for one another.
She tried to resist and deny Annabelle but i feel that after her conversation with the father Harris she was so exhausted by all the personal issues in her life (her boyfriend etc). So she followed his advice about not trying to figure all the things going wrong in her life and just go with the "flow". That's why she takes Annabelle to the beach. She's trying to show her that they can just be friends and not what Annabelle thinks she wants. But yes, after a while she just can't deny the connection that they share together. Clearly it goes in the wrong direction and as you said she deeply regrets taking Annabelle with her. You can greatly sense her sadness, distress and agony in the bath tub scene after their return from the beach house.
Now before the dance she indeed tries to avoid her like the "plague" and clears the "air" with her in the last classroom scene. At the dance she feels bad about rejecting her while she was dancing with her ex-boyfriend. But when she hears Annabelle sing for her (my favorite scene of the movie and Annabelle such an alpha move girl you did and how you were looking at Simone and how she was looking at you, i just can't) she just can't turn away. She's in awe of and yearning Annabelle, yearning their times together and starting to see all this in another way. She reflected and still thought that this can't happen right before leaving and going outside to be alone but when Annabelle takes her hand, after so many "close calls" that they had together, she just CAN'T say NO anymore. They finally kiss and make love.
In the end after their love scene they get caught and after Simone goes to her aunt she herself admits that it wasn't right and that she was thinking this every moment she was with Annabelle. In the end she gets arrested (by her own aunt's orders which is kind of messed up along with the incest part you mentioned earlier). The director doesn't shy away from punishing Simone and making her feel guilty and distressed about all this and states in an interview that Annabelle's behavior was way more predatory than Simone's. And i agree wholeheartedly with that. But it isn't a "bad" predatory type of behavior as in some other somewhat similar movies. They both fell for one another under these weird and controversial situations they were under. In the alternative ending Simone didn't face charges but she was still fired from her job. Also Annabelle would have turned 18 in a couple of days so it would be okay, from a legal perspective at least.
All in all this is just a movie and the most important thing is how one felt for the other. At least there are some people like me that see this movie as it is, a movie about deep and profound connection that lead to Love. ♥♥♥
Also RIP Diane Gaidry. I feel so bad that i watched this movie after your passing... You were phenomenal, sublime and perfect. 😭😢😭

OMG - back in 2006, when this movie was making the rounds of Film Festivals, I was obsessed. Back then, writer/director Katherine Brooks had a My Space page (remember that?!🤣) for Loving Annabelle and whipped us all up into a frenzy as she posted photos from the film. I flew from Florida to Los Angeles to see it at the Outlook Festival. I feel so lucky to have met Katherine, Diane, Erin and other cast & crew at that event. Wonderful, loving people who put their heart & soul into that indie film. Like everyone, I was heartbroken when Diane lost her battle with cancer. She was well aware of how much her fans loved her for taking on the role of Simone. Thanks so much Evelyn for the magical trip down memory lane!! 🙌🌈❤️

Well...I was older when I watched the movie, so, I guess I was supposed to relate to Simone, BUT, maybe I was trying to reclaim my youth OR maybe it was the fact that Simone was all kinds of HOT! I have watched this movie more times that I care to admit...There are just so many horrible lesbian movies, that this one stood out as one of the good ones...and, I had that massive crush on Simone. I'm a mom, so, if this happened to my kid, or any kid I know, I might have a very different opinion, but I told myself that Annabelle was 18, and that made me feel better...I just loved the film. I think Diane Gaidry was so good, I managed to find a couple films with her in them...not as good as Loving Annabelle. I am so glad I am NOT the only person that thought Auntie Nun was hitting on her niece...THAT REALLY bothered me. But, ya know, there's a lot os shit going on with THAT church...SO many books written by former nuns about having sex with other nuns...and the priests. I'll stop here. At 54, I still love the movie. Simone never put pressure on Annabelle...I don't know...Maybe I need theropy because I still am swept up in this story. Katherine Brooks does an amazing job with the film. I am STILL waiting for a films Brooks did with Jill Hennessey (Law and Order, Crossing Jordan, City on a Hill...singer/songwriter, one of my TV wives.) It's finished she had issues getting it picked up for release. Maybe one day, I hate knowing that Jill is sitting somewhere not being watched....(did that sound old man creapy?) Anyway. Loved Loving Annabelle. Still heartbroken of the passing of Diane Gaidry.

ughh the biggest plot twist is that I used to judge this movie but then it turned out I’m a teacher and I’m actually dating a former student and she’s way younger than me. (at least nothing happened while she was my student

Honestly I could turn a blind eye to this but Bloomington (2010)... That relationship was actually legal but the student looked so young I couldn't get into it at all. I swear they look like mother and daughter in some scenes.

No, lolita is a psychological horror story of a 12 year old girl taken advantage of by a man in his 30s, this is a romance of a 17 year old girl and a woman in her 30s. 17 and 12 are very different.

This is how i felt about Bloomington. Which was only slightly less inappropriate by virtue of most college students being adults. but this movie for whatever reason, never resonated with me. i dont know. ive watched it a few times, never got into it. im sure my opinion would have been different in a time with less sapphic media available.

@gerirousculp3010 It frequently happens with male teachers in media. Pretty little liars for one the relationship was supposed to be good, it's an extremely common trope, and this is the only lesbian film I could find with that premise.

yes i also had a very problematic favorite lesbian movie (don't wanna mention it) because it literally was the first ever representation that I've got the chance to watch, but i don't talk about it every second

I did NOT get flirty vibes from Mother Immaculata towards Simone lol It just came across to me like she was never very close to Simone when she was younger and is trying to make up for lost time but is so emotionally repressed that she can only be awkwardly affectionate when she's drunk. But that's not to downplay the extreme discomfort Simone must've felt in that moment. It was just an overall sad scene for me to watch. But enough about my childhood...
