- Duran Duran - (I'm Looking For) Cracks in the Pavement
Genre: New Wave
Album: Seven And The Ragged Tiger
Released: 1984
Recorded: Sydney, Australia 1983
Lyrics:
I shed my skin
When the party was about to begin
I'm light years away but
I'm walking back, tonight,
Of all nights
When I should be feeling just right
Don't want to be in public,
My head is full of chopstick I don't like it.
Something on my mind..
Breaking open doors I sealed up before,
Something on my mind..
Makes me run when I thought I'd run too far.
Somebody shaking my tree
Maybe that somebody is me
I'm standing in the light but I'm making a break for
The shadows on the cinema wall.
They should be mine but I'm not that tall
Now I'm saying this in private
If I had a car,
I'd drive it insane
(chorus) (chorus)
I'm looking for cracks in the pavement...
(chorus) (chorus) (chorus)
Nobody ever realises this, sadly, but there was a lot to be said about how great it was being a teenager in the 80s - today's youngsters have missed out greatly :)
They're still missing out. When was the last time you saw a teenager without their face buried in a smart phone. I feel like I'm part of an exclusive club. The "Grew Up In The 80s" club.
Skin-a-max and scrambled porn 😂😂😂👍
I have to agree with you. As a teenager in the 80s, I had suffered abuse of all kinds( sexually, verbally, and mentally)but luckily music and bands like this was my safe haven. I still love this band as well as bands like Def Leppard, Inxs, Simple Minds, U2,and the list goes on. You're right about these teens don't know about great music like this.
Nobody? I was a teenager in the 80s. It wasn't the greatest thing ever. Sure, there was amazing music but today's kids aren't missing anything.
Ι love the variety of Andy Taylor sound ,this one is my favourite of him
Great song. I love "Seven"; its only drawback was that it followed "Rio" (the boys set the bar pretty high with that one). The sound of the album was so mature, and there were so many tracks that flew under the radar: "Shadows On Your Side," "Tiger Tiger" (a fantastic instrumental), "(I'm Looking For) Cracks in the Pavement" and the criminally underrated "The Seventh Stranger" (a brooding, melancholy classic if there ever was one).
Despite its popularity as a genre, 80s music gets panned for being superficial. However, in my view, Duran Duran was anything but superficial. These guys were serious musicians with chops, which was sadly overshadowed by their fashion-plate image.
One of the most remarkable things about this song is that the Title of it doesn't even get sung until about 2/3 rds. of the way into it! As for the fashion-plate image ? What 80's band didn't do that? At least DD has musical chops.
Oxnard Montalvo I Looooove Duran Duran ,My fave BAND! ♡♡♡♡♡
'Seven and the ragged tiger" and "Notorious" are my fave Album ❤and this Song is One of my Fave Songs of Duranies!
True collaborators with energy :)
Oxnard Montalvo spot on! You’re a talented writer 🙏
Duran Duran was one of the best rock groups ever!
This reminds me of sitting in the bar of the Holiday Inn Birmingham in 1983 sipping a Pina Colada and chatting with John & Nick after their Villa Park gig. Fabulous memories ❤
Wow
lucky you
OMFG THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG BY DURAN DURAN PS. I'm 13 and Duran Duran is my life and I love Simon Le Bon and John Taylor and there both awesome and so in Nick Rhodes and Rodger Taylor
Lorelei Pacourek *Andy was the best * when I met John he was rude :( 30 years I'd waited to meet him and completely shattered my illusion of him :(

Oops meant your only 13 and such great taste in music!
Duran Duran were the full package. They wrote amazing songs, played their own instruments and cared about their fans and tried to live up to their loyalty. They could sing and play live and looked great! What more could you ask for in a band? I love all their songs but Seven and the Ragged Tiger is my favourite album. There's something special about it - every song inspires creativity. I used to listen to it over and over again when I wrote and the words just came to me like magic!
this album, holds a special place in my heart as their best. I would dance and sing all the lyrics then when the album was over I would start it all over again (!) Hahahaha, I must have worn out the grooves in the record by playing it so much! Every song is so great on the album. Now that I am older I can hear the layering of all the instruments and just how creative artistically it really is. I mean, New Moon on Monday has fireworks in it. I have never heard a song with fireworks in it before.
My personal favourite
Great track me and my girlfriend love it and sing to it
My most fave on the whole album, too
It seems as if this is one of those amazing yet forgotten Duran Duran songs! I love this one though, it's one of my favorites!
I believe this album can warmly eat the brain. It is extremely bouncing, joyful, euphoric and nothing is left to chance : if you notice the very pleasant instrumental '' Tiger Tiger '' which refers to the man crossing the jungle of sins to renew his spirit, this record is a desperate attempt to escape insanity, voracious appetites.
_Is this ur American Psycho impression?, I think ur looking for Red Carpet Massacre_ XP
PS can u do an analysis of Hold Back the Rain

Something on my mind, breaking open doors I sealed up before.
Something on my mind, makes me run when I thought I had run too far.

7 and the ragged tiger. This song is a hidden gem!
Outro álbum fantástico deles, ouço muito até hoje, uma boa música não envelhece, ela melhora com o tempo. E essa obra prima deles junto com os anteriores, Duran Duran e Río mostraram a maturidade deles na época!!
Dark, sombre, sheer classic. Huge influence of Chic and Roxy Music.
This is DD. The falldown into minor chords in the chorus makes it!
Duran duran hermosa canción Simón quao que que fantástica voz
The wind is to their backs on this one...Duran Duran is in their full power.
Chi: I too still have this on vinyl with nothing to play it on. *LOL*
I have it in cassette haha
Mi primer vinilo!!! Me hice fan de inmediato.
Me too! This was the very first album I had ever gotten by my grandma and I listened to it 3 or 4 times a day all summer long when I was 10 years old :) Seven and the Ragged Tiger is my favorite album ever and I still love Duran Duran. I think they are the best. I keep finding great albums of theirs that I didn't listen to before. They have created so many different sounding albums that it is really cool to hear the different stages in their career. All their albums are good. But, of course,
i remember listening to this over and over when i was about 16 and still home and in high school and had a hot girlfriend. i wish i had known i was living the best days of my life!
Those were definitely good days. It's easier to see these things in hindsight. With that said, cherish every moment, including these bs covid times we're living in. In 20 years from now you could possibly be looking back to now, wishing you were that young again, realizing the blessings of life long after the fact.. I'm 47 at the time of writing this, and my outlook on life has completely changed. I'm grateful for every moment and try to make the most of it! Seize opportunities now, because they may not come again.
my head is full of chop sticks but I like it! something on my mind.... Duran Duran forever
I can relate to this song !! I play it all the time !!
Essa música é genial. Esse disco é uma obra-prima.
Great album..loved it first time I heard it...Any album that takes you up and up when you first hear it tends to stick with you for ever...:)
Thank you very much...I can relate to that...My favourite DD album although some think the contrary.

what does this even mean? "My head is full of chopstick I don't like it"
Haven't herd this one in years, but remembered all the words like I was 10 years old again.
Adore Nick's work here)
love this song
Love this song! When you think of the most popular 'boy bands' of the 80s Duran, Wham, Spandau they all wrote their own songs, something that's so sadly lacking today.
+roxycampbell Duran Duran isn't a boy band they're a rock band
yeah my mistake I totally forgot what new wave was when i wrote the comment. I was just trying to correct the guy as quick as possible.
Seth Baker No they’re a synthpop band.
Correction: Duran Duran has been a boy band and will never be considered one. Respect!!
Good!!!

Worst song on seven and the ragged tiger!
+Zlad! Vevo But still great!
+Zlad! Vevo Ahhh yea! its like the best
One of the best for me
As I said I still love it.
It's definetely weakest on the album, but still a good song. I prefer the other underrated song that follows, "I Take The Dice"
"Shadows on the cinema wall / should be mine but I'm not that tall."
+Em Jay Enn Ha! I always thought they were saying, "Shadows on the cinderblock wall....." :D
Some pervert lyrics here haha ^^
Thomas Edouard Really? Perverted lyrics? I didn't know. I was just thinking it was a commentary on Hollywood publicity and fame ("the cinema wall") and self-importance ("should be mine") and envy ("but I'm not that tall").
