  • Black Bear Pass is an infamous pass in Colorado and it's know for the switchbacks, steeps, and off road obstacles that have no room for error. If you make a wrong turn you could go off the edge! Will the stock Tacoma make it?
On this adventure, we're staying in our beautiful state of Colorado, and we're going to tackle one of the most famous and challenging trails out there - Black Bear Pass.
Now, if you're an off-roader, you've probably heard of Black Bear Pass. This trail is one of the most popular and iconic off-road trails in the country, and it's not hard to see why. With its breathtaking scenery, technical challenges, and steep drop-offs, Black Bear Pass is the ultimate test for any off-roader.
But before we hit the trail, let's talk about what you can expect on Black Bear Pass. First of all, this trail is no joke. It's steep, it's narrow, and it's got plenty of hairpin turns to keep you on your toes. And if that wasn't enough, there are some sections of the trail that are so steep, you'll have to put your faith in your breaks and your tires.
But don't let the challenges scare you away - Black Bear Pass is worth every bit of effort you put into it. The scenery on this trail is simply stunning. You'll be surrounded by towering peaks, cascading waterfalls, and lush forests.

Good spotting. The tires scared the heck out of me though, no way I could have driven that. I think I've seen a video of a Gladiator on street tires having similar trouble.
    My favorite part
    'you can go forward'
'Yes, but I don't want to'
Kind of sums up the trail.

Great job! I have the long bed 2021 OR for work and 2019 OR standard for fun with steel BA bumpers, lift and 33" AT tires. Been through every pass in that area and I'm still not brave enough to tackle black bear. After watching your video, I will never do it but like the option of going to the turn around two way point. It was a crazy day when we ran this. I definitely wouldn't recommend a stock long bed doing black bear after doing this. We got lucky that everything went perfectly

I think the jeep being on 37's is part of what made it want to roll. i think Blackbear is one trail that lends itself to smaller tires over larger. stock Tacoma probably a bit too small. but 33's is probably closer to the sweet spot. you do not want massive tires raising you center of gravity when you're on a tippy trail.

The two places on BBP that would kill me are the steps/ledges just above the turn at the waterfall at the top of the switchbacks, and the first (right turn) switchback after the waterfall. Everything else is meh. Those two places would be my downfall because while I don't give a crap about heights in and of themselves, I have serious issues with unprotected edges of any height. I keep going back and forth as to which of the two is worse. =)

In the practice of serious mountaineering climbing, is a must to perform an exercise of the factors that affecting evaluations of riks and harzards. Do it efficiently or not, could translate in return to home safety or not. Technical factors as previous experience and serious training and, over all, common sense, are replaced by self overdimensioned appreciation of own experience, budget capacity, skills and optimal decisions-make. You can see this in Everest or in the off road trails in your country and mine. People, even with ingenuosness, assume that take a tour to and 8000 peak, or drive over highly exposed terrain, is a matter of hire an expedition company or buy a vehicle, that the salesman ensures to you, that can climb walls, deep mud or slippery snow without any problem. The core factor do not reside in the expensive items you can use or afford, fundamentally is about you and your capacity of handle internal and external factors. What is in play is not a UA-cam or TikTok opportunity, is essentially about your life. But, in general, this is so difficult....
