  • In the video we install new Rear pads and rotors on my 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis.
These pads that we installed are for the NON-PHENOLIC REAR PISTON. They are just the regular push in style piston calipers.

Make sure you take the reservoir cap off before compressing the piston. Otherwise, great video.

Thanks for this video. You saved me grief twice here. Once for showing the tab going in front on the caliper and again showing the two types of pads the parts store sent. Of course, I had the wrong type at first.

Do you know if all 99+ came with steel piston calipers in the rear? I'm about to do the same but with only one car I can't afford to get the wrong ones.

We have same vehicle same color /cover! 2002. Took it to mavis for loud rear passenger noise and a weird spring feeling in the pedal when braking. Two days later tear back wheel smoking almost on fire had throw tons water on it on side of road (had some water in trunk). Call mavis they send tow truck and we are now three weeks in still not moved the vehicle bc the whole thing broke off to the axel! Wth! We also turned back around when we picked it up bc the noise wasn’t fixed neither the pedal feeling! Manager drove it said felt very off however he needed a couple days and bring it back! I said what about liability if something happens? He reiterated he too busy and had personal issues at home dealing with .. the tow truck apparently back it in. They’ve not been able to get it into the shop. We’ve bought vehicle dollys for them, they say they had five men try to push it in a bay for half afternoon (pshh nah). I have videos and pics! What caused this??? They don’t know but I’m too the point of calling corporate/ceos bc we’ve asked for a rental several times keep getting the run around. We’ve also got the manager saying there’s only ONE mechanic there he trusts to work on anything. We are at our wits end. We call everyday and drive by try to help. I suggested a flat bed tow truck that’s extends out holding the entire car front to back. Got no where. Spent the $500 on brake job. Please help anyone! Thanks! (Also the tow truck guy sent us pics bc he said something didn’t look right to him). I wish I could post a pic of what it looks like all the inside of the drum brake was so tore up like metal rings on the ground that had melted off?!

I had that happen on my old 2003 Ford F150 years ago. It happened right after I replaced the rear brakes. The E-brakes ended up seizing on the passenger rear. I had smoke pouring out of that wheel. it was so hot it melted the center cap on the wheel. I stopped in a hotel parking lot and had to get a ride home which was about 60 miles away. Went back the next day with a tool box full of tools and fixed it in the parking lot. new caliper, rotor and pads. Then eliminated the e-brake all together. Got it back going again. Not fun.
