Thanks so much for watching! Who saw the solar eclipse?!? I saw it in Indiana, it was sick. Anyway.. What videos would you have included on the list?? Also what's the greatest tornado video quote of all time?!!
I did
I saw it in Iowa
It was crazy
I only got 90 percent 😭
Saw my first totality in 2017 down in Kentucky, and saw my second this year here in Indiana. I’ll never forget either of them.
I think my favorite quote is "Susan, get my pants."
As soon as I see this comment already know the video you’re talking about LMFAO 🤣
Its such a classic, haha
Human moments like that make me laugh lmao
Man had his priorities straight
That's the best tornado video ever, period. Not just incredible footage, but hilarious on top of all that.
Honey, where are my pants?
“I hate Oklahoma” is hilarious. I’d never seen that before
That lady saying I hate Oklahoma is straight up iconic. Respect.
yeah, i do too, and i live in it
I'm glad "Susan, get my pants!" got mentioned. If you go into the comments for that video on the vortexva channel, there's an 11 year old Pecos Hank comment about the tornado and that famous line. Some fun UA-cam archeology!
Hell yea
@@tannerdavis2678MAN SHUT UP!!!
Love Pecos Hank! He's my fave.
That's so cool!

Lololol
I came here to post this.... 😆 glad I'm not the only one who thought this...
Honestly, I knew my grandparents had a close call with a tornado when I was younger. It wasn’t until a couple years ago, while watching Storm Chasers, that I realized their close call was THE Tuscaloosa tornado. Their house was still standing; everything directly across the street was gone
😮 wow
damn😲
I’m STUNNED the Joplin 2011 convenience store video didnt make it into the list. It’s the closest thing to a tornado horror video that you’ll see, and you’ll never forget the noise you hear when the tornado opens up the walk-in freezer.
Agreed
I'd say it didn't make this list because the tornado is not showed in the video but it was tragically suspenseful to the max.
Aftermath of First person Joplin Tornado clip might interest you :
ua-cam.com/video/W-P4P68YyNM/v-deo.html
The video is about “visible” tornadoes, inside the store it was not seen only heard. It is one of the scariest I agree with
Probably because that footage doesn't show the tornado, or much of anything, for that matter, because it's so dark. While I agree that footage is haunting, it's memorable for the audio, not the visuals like with these videos. That said, I'd say the fact that you can't see anything is what makes that video so scary. You're forced to visualize what's happening based on the audio, and the things your mind makes up are always much scarier than seeing something in person.
I had a weird tornado obsession as a kid and I got such a nostalgia hit from seeing some of these videos again. I used to trawl through old youtube for some of these videos!
me too, I use to watch tornado docs and any tv special that was about tornadoes all the time, I also use to have a lot of tornado dreams as a teen, into my 20s
I remember some of these clips
Same!
If you were then it wouldn’t be that hard to assume that you are autistic
I mean same at least once a year I get obsessed and binge watch videos about tornadoes
I am pretty sure nobody in this comment section will think that’s weird lol
The one of the Andover F5 of 1991 sweeping behind those row of houses is #1 for me, along with Pampa 1995.
Plus the 2007 Manitoba F5 where it sweeps an entire home into the air.
The Andover footage is possibly the first tornado footage I saw, sitting there with my mom on the couch at 4 years old, and that's where it all began for me. I remember seeing the Gull Lake footage very near the same timeframe though.
The Manitoba one might be the craziest couple seconds of tornado footage I’ve ever seen; when it actually picks up and carries an entire house. Absolutely wild
@@slipknottin That very video is what gave the Tornado an F5 rating. Surveyors initially rated the damage as high end F4 thinking that the tornado likely lingered or slowly moved over the area, which to be fair it did circle back on itself in that spot, but once the video surfaced it was undeniable. After Canada adopted the EF scale they said it was enough for the Tornado to have been rated an EF5. Truly a wild event!
The first clip with the "get away from the windows!" immediately brought me back to the tornado VHS tapes I would check out from the library as a child. The origin of my fascination with tornadoes. Thank you for giving context to some of my earliest memories!
black VHS box with Tornado Warning across the front?
Omg I did the exact same thing as a kid 😂
How Mr. Glen Schultz stayed as cool as a cucumber is something I’ll never understand. EF4 coming right at him and he never makes a sound? Wow!
Very strange, he was probably after causing his wife to be where she was, part of the stairs fell on her, she was on the way down to the bunker, probably tried to get her husband when it happened or call out to him
By his own account, Clem straight up thought his house was going to withstand it because it was old and had held up to strong winds in the past. A fun quote from his interview with Fox 6 Now Milwaukee: "I saw part of my roof blow past the window, and I thought, 'Well maybe it’s not gonna hang on quite as well as I hoped it would.' And, then, the floor started moving, and I figured, no I don’t think it’s gonna hang on at all."
He had the camera. His wife did not. Let that be a lesson to you. 😜
@@Avendesora Well here I was thinking it was a case of someone just having nothing left to lose
@AtarahDerek bro, what the actual f##k is wrong with you? That's not funny
There’s a movie documentary. Twister: Fury in the Plains. People have posted it to UA-cam so it’s free to watch. It’s a. CLASSIC. 90s video with so many iconic videos and cheesy 90s music. It’s gold. I remember buying it at Walmart in Boone Iowa in the 90s on VHS and being so excited.
Being from Boone, do you remember the Jordan Tornado of 1976? That was practically in your backyard!
I was obsessed with those videos as a kid.
We have the double vhs cassette pack that has that film and the sequel. I’m surprised it still plays after how much my older brother and I watched it! A classic, indeed.
That's such a classic! I loved the music in it too.
Best VHS I ever owned
Not even kidding when I say this, I'm so glad I found your channel when I did. Your videos have genuinely reignited my autism-fueled hyper fixation on tornadoes that I only used to feel when I was a child.
Subbed.
What flavor of autism did you get?
Tornadoes.
I'm hyper-fixated. I'm not autistic.
"I have blue eyes, and now I'm hyper-fixated on tornadoes!"
"I like cheeseburgers! I'm now fixated on tornadoes because I love cheeseburgers!"
"I wear glasses! It makes me watch tornado videos with millions of others".
What the bleep does "autistic" have to do with being enthralled with the force of nature?
Millions of people watch these with the same deep fascination and they aren't autistic either? You just want attention for "I'M AUTISTIC"? Like every other person doesn't claim that now in developed countries? Seriously, everyone claims that now. You are NOT unique or special when fifty percent of the population claims the same thing lol. That's how silly it is to drop that ridiculous thing in there, like it's special or unique. T'aint.

Very cool. I think "Susan get my pants" is probably still the most memorable quote out of all of these
They need to use the quote in “Twisters”. It would be CLASSIC! 🔥
@@sci-fyguy7767 jo: wheres my pants?
For the overpass thing, it's not about girders or not, it's about the venturi effect. Forcing wind into a confined spot only strengthens the wind and makes wind tunnels, the girders may have been passable for that f2, but 300 mph winds forced into an overpass is a whole different story.
Boundary effects far outweigh the venturi effect. Wind speeds at the edge where there are girders offering resistance will result in much lower wind speeds. Like he said it's all about whether you have something solid between you and the wind. A bridge truss is excellent cover. Modern pre-stressed concrete designs don't offer you much.

This comment trend is pure cancer
@@crowofjudgement8810 Can't take a joke, can you?
I've read that the tornado in the overpass video actually ended up missing the overpass entirely. You can kind of see it move off to the left in the video. All that wind screaming through is the inflow into the tornado, which I would say makes it even scarier because that video doesn't actually show the full force of the tornadic winds.
It's true. The tornado shifted its tracks moments before hitting the overpass.... those folks were only side swiped.
not to mention that the i flow was basically multiplied as the overpass served as a small vacuum to ramp up its speed. Terrifying
And we now all know from other tornado weather experts, an overpass is not good for taking shelter under. The wind is accelerated as the tornado pulls it under the overpass.
The Kansas turnpikes bridges are also built differently than most other bridges
@@pattyslater514it’s a good thing or the outcome may have been very different.
I was just looking for the 1991 Gull Lake Minnesota tornado video the other day but didn’t remember what I was called. First saw that footage 20 years ago. So glad I found it here
It’s a great day when Swegle posts
so true
Very true indeed.
Very
Turns out his name is Jacob. Saw it in the ad. Never knew that.
I’ve lived in Birmingham all my 60 years and of course been through MANY scary storms and tornado warnings but I can honestly say that April 27th 2011 was truly terrifying. RIP to all the victims 😢😢😢
Thank you for your amazing videos🌪️😎
You should make a video talking about the plainfield F5 tornado. It is a very significant tornado and significant event in my family, it put so many rules and changes in place and started to shape new satellite weather systems, and drills.
I live two towns over and I agree, the Plainfield F5 was significant for many reasons including the direction of travel
I was just watching a old video of Swegles (Could a Tornado Destroy a Skyscraper? Tornadoes in Urban Cities) and THEN ONCE I FINISH IT HE DROPS A NEW ONE HE'S THE GOAT!
The Clem Schultz video really instilled my fear and fascination of tornados.
The Clarence Schultz video gets me every time. Now that you've put up the address, I've been cruising around the neighborhood via google earth to see the before and after. Soo creepy seeing the shed and transformer pole in his back yard plus the house in the back ground before all hell broke loose.
thank you for highlighting some classic quotes from the vids. the man going '.......shyit' kills me Every single time
0:20 this gentlemen made a much better video than most on their phones nowadays.
The 2014 Washington Illinois tornado video is definitely one of the best and tear jerker 💯
Andover 2022 is starting to turn into a classic tbh
I’d love to see you do a video on the tallest tornados ever captured/recorded. Like the height of the funnel from ground to sky.
Have you seen the video by Rojo Fern on that subject? If not I HIGHLY recommend it, he is one of the absolute best YTers I've ever seen. He did a video on the scale of mushroom clouds that is hands down the best video on this platform.
@@NefvilleRojo is one of those rare gems you happen to stumble across at 3 in the morning. I just hope he sticks with it because he's so good at it.

Swegle I love your videos, I’m obsessed with tornadoes and storms. I love your style of making videos and your editing. Your attitude and everything is amazing. Keep it up! ❤
This is one of the best tornado compilations I’ve seen on UA-cam. Great work!
Yep, that window shot in number one is classic. The first one I saw was the Greg Jarrett's video shot. I believe 1981. (I see you added it) It was a little one, but I was hooked for life. My interest started with distance relatives being in the 70s Lubbock. Without relatives I would had never heard it happened in our media-less world.
Ever since I saw the “get up under the girders!” Video as a kid I always look for them too! I’ve never seen one in NC.
My favorite signature tornado footage is from the May 3, 1999 tornado when it was in the stovepipe shape. I will always recognize that image.
The video at Albion has one line that makes me giggle. The man behind Davida hollers to someone downstairs, "Ya oughtta see it! Come on up now!" The very next second lightning hits close and the resulting thunderclap is insane. The timing couldn't have been better.
Regarding honorable mentions, I'd have included that footage at Dallas in 1957 (The clip with the big pieces of debris) and a suburban shot of the 1987 Edmonton tornado. When asked by a child what he's looking at, the cameraman at Edmonton replies "That's a cloud. That's a funnel cloud." Just as chill as you please.
Superb video! My favorite clip got the first slot!
My favorite tornado videos are the infamous McConnell AFB tornado video, and the 1999 Bridge Creek tornado video that was filmed in a backyard a mile or two away from the tornado path. (even though it wasn't on the list).
I am always happy when
Jake posts. Being a teen i wanna be a meteorologist planning what im gonna do for college. Your videos are so fun to watch. You actually helped me learn more and more. I recommend doing the Tri-State tornado in a whole video because i want to learn more about it. Sometimes I fall asleep to your videos...Thanks for always making my day!
This is the best channel I've discovered hahaha. Keep up the good work
I appreciate your severe weather and tornado videos a lot. especially this one as it uncovered so many memories from digging through UA-cam trying to find every bit of tornado footage we could. I'm autistic, and I have grown up in a place where tornados don't happen often at all (Delaware), and as a teen hyper fixated on tornadoes, it sucks. watching your videos taught me all sorts of new things about tornadoes, as well as make them easier to understand. keep up the great work dude! :)
That video of the 2015 Fairdale video is absolutely haunting. Hearing it get closer and closer knowing there's nothing you can do about it is just terrifying.
Keep on doing what your doing man! ♥ Amazing content as always.
I couldn't click on the notification fast enough when I saw this posted. Love your videos! I would have put Clem's Fairdale video higher because that one always makes my blood run cold, but they're all good choices.
My day gets x100 times better when Swegle uploads!
It makes me feel tingly all over!
Great video bro! Always hyped when you upload a new tornado video.
Always look forward to your videos.
We need a part 2, or even part 3 or 4, there are so many famous tornado videos, and maybe even news footage.

Great stuff as always, Jake...hadn't seen some of these before, fascinating stuff.
Can't wait for the professional video! Love the videos man, keep up the work
I always enjoy your work. You have great camera presence and a calm but authoritative voice. Your research is thorough and well presented. Even the way you mention your sponsor is done well. It doesn't sound forced or phony. Thank you!
I love tornado season. I was less than 1mile from may 3rd 1999, and watched the may 8th from the front porch when i was 10 or so
Same
I was 8 when that happened and all the footage scared the shit out of me. I was in missouri but it was all over the news.
Same as I love tornado season
I was kinda surprised not to see may 5th or 20th on the list. Moore is a ridiculous hot spot for bad tornadoes
@@gingerchic8762 if those were later, I moved 10 miles from moore so I didnt get to witness either
#8 has always been my favorite. It undergoes so many personality changes. Big wedge to giant whispy creature, then hops up into the clouds and comes down as an angry stove pipe and then ropes out. It’s the creepiest of all to me and I absolutely love it and I can’t believe it’s on your list. I thought nobody cared about this one 🙌
Really enjoyed this one, thanks for uploading.
New sub man, REALLY like your content. A bit mad I found you so late.
I saw a vid of some european guy reacting to your tornado siren vid, also, congrats on the sponsorship!! Happy to see ya flourishing 😊❤

These Videos are Just Wild/crazy/incredible, it's Impossible explain this Feeling.
One my my favs is JOPLIN, MO, Tornado, 22 May 2011 uploaded by some British stormchases. The element of uncertainty, then urgency and foreboding is just a heck of a feel. Keep up the good work, Sam!
It's a good day, cos Swegle uploaded!!
The Clem video is the GOAT tornado video, in my opinion. He filmed the massive tornado hitting him. Without freaking out.
You see it from a distance, then come right to him. The house across the street explodes and then hits his house, somehow he doesn't freak out.
I've watched every tornado video I can think of. Nothing tops it, in my opinion.
Love the video, though. Your content is awesome! It makes me want to make more tornado videos. 😆
Yeah I like how the house in front of him explodes and he doesn't even flinch. Only starts to move when the window and room he's in start to collapse. Absolute Unit.
I think it was stated that he was in shock and accepted his fate once he realized he couldn't do anything
I figured he was in the freeze part of a fear response.
He must be in complete shock

This channel never fails to feed my childhood fascination! Keep up the twisted work❤🌪
I love how you included the first video….I remember watching that one in the 90’s on TLC when it was still a learning channel and not a train wreck and of course, the Weather Channel before it became a global warming clown show. Bob is running away from the tornado, warning about staying away from the windows, and he never puts down his beer. Thanks again for another extraordinary tornado video.
The SEMO tornado shelter video from the April 2, 2006 outbreak gave me chills.

Great video! I love to see new videos you post! I'd like to see the Lemont, IL, on 6/13/1976. It was a monster & had a strange path.
Your tornado videos always blow me away.
You know its going to be a good day when he uploads!
I remember vividly watching the Andover tornado coverage as it happened, as well as this video with the KSN folks under the bridge. We frequently bounced between KAKE and KSN for live weather coverage. The McConnell AFB footage. That was a terrifying season, and what’s more, over the next few years, nearly all the same places had been hit again. The same poor boat shop in Goddard got hit twice in a few years. Doppler radar was a new thing and if you couldn’t tune in to tv. You listened to the trained spotter coverage on KFDI. The 90’s was a wild decade to grow up and witness it all. Not to mention all of the science and technology to come. Footage and knowledge of what these places looked like before and after the storms is something I’ll never forget. Stories and footage from Hesston, Haysville, Yoder, Haven, Hoisington, Andover, and so many more are the text books I learned from.
We need a “best quotes” from tornado videos!
You’ll always have a viewer in me dude, i love your stuff so much
Great video! the first Tornado documentary that I saw was 'Twister: Fury On The Plains', and it had a lot of these classic videos in it. Seeing that was the start of my fascination with tornadoes!
the set is looking so good man!!!
Awesome video as usual!
The audio of the Gull Lake video has lived rent-free in my head since 2000.
But the quote "Look at them funnels.....NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH" will be in every dream from now on
I lived in corn Oklahoma and I didn't know about this and I'm so impressed that in the little town of corn someone did something so significant. I've lived in Oklahoma for most of my life and I've never seen a tornado life is so crazy!!

One of the most iconic tornado videos for me is of the 2013 Moore EF5, specifically the one captured by Justin Cox & Chance Coldiron. It captures the entire intensification of the tornado from calm formation to EF5 fury, all in the span of about 10 minutes.
So many good vids in this one.
Strangely thought that the 2020 Dalton/Ashby EF4 would have made the list.
It's easily my favourite tornado video. So photogenic.
