    I watch your videos regularly. As always on a high level. You are the best !!!
    About Siemens:
    I have been involved in automation for many years. I will be 60 in two years. I have worked on many packages to create automation systems. A lot of my time has been spent on Siemens. My first impression is megatons of documentation. In most cases, this documentation is written by "Coca-Cola salesmen" who have finally figured out how to work with Siemens software. And the documentation itself describes their long and not easy way. A bit like the TV series "Game of Thrones". It's just as heavy. That's why I switched to Beckhoff.
    Your contribution to the creation of quality material for mastering the products of this company should be emphasized.
    Licensing:
    This applies to all firms, not just Siemens. The feeling is that the lawyers who write these agreements "wait on purpose" so that the buyer does not read something in the "small print". As a result, in order to justify their "prohibitively high" salaries, they organize multiple lawsuits.
    Resume:
    In my opinion, the world is moving steadily in the direction of "Open Source". This is the only right way.

    As always great video. As some one who talks with customers about Simatic AX now for years, I have to admit you brought the value proposition over crisper than I do :)
    Transforming the way we develop Software in Automation is excatly why what drives us at AX. Therefore, it is really great to see that we seem to have struck a nerve.
    Regarding your questions I hope we will answer them in time.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

    Is Siemens going to be like Beckhoff? It's hard to believe that Siemens is going to give the software licenses totally free.

      If Siemens have been so bold and managed to make such a dramatic move to make what seems to be a fantastic development environment, I hope that they can equally bold and think long-term rather than short-term for the license fee.

    Finally a little light at the end of the dark tunnel of automation, I like the continuous integration and automated test features that promises. As well it will be magnificent if we can integrate frameworks to our systems. Great video.

    Another great video!
    About the question: Siemens must assumes its position in this race and new era, or it will lose the fat share of the market it holds. My last company used only Siemens and they are changing that to Beckhoff family. So, awake up Siemens!

    By the way, great video there by Jakob.

    It's a big step for the Siemens, but they are already late.
    What I supposed to do with all the Beckhoff hardware if I would like to shift to the (paywalled) Simatic AX ? The automation programming is so hardware dependent. With that slow pace they will never be the OOP leaders.

    as i get AX as a presentation for the first time i didnt understand why need create new coding environment. Why they can not integrate Visual Studio to TIA Portal. Twincat and Studio5000 allready based on VS IDE....It is cool thing WinCC UA and Simatic AX as a tools over Visual Studio but what about integration with TIA Portal...?

    • @NeonGreenT
      @NeonGreenT 28 днів тому +1

      You need to differentiate Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio, they are different products.
      I actually asked Siemens about this, they said they didn't want to copy Beckhoff and VSCode was viable solution everyone is happy with.
      Also TIAPortal sucks anyway, no need for even more overhead and loading time.

    WAGO controllers already bridge the gap between IT and OT! And better yet WAGO controllers are open source Linux OS. WAGOs software environment is also free and because the controllers have Docker you can develop the control system anyway you'd like!

      Yeah but the world runs on Siemens PLCs mostly... If the customer wants Siemens, they get Siemens.

    Our biggest customer REQUIRES us to use ladder. Hence, they will never move from TIA portal. I think this is. a big issue a lot of people wipp have transitioning to AX, but one can dream 😅

    • @NikolayLinkov
      @NikolayLinkov 4 місяці тому

      Maybe one day they move from ladder directly to low- or no-code to make it still usable for field technicians. But you are right customers are very slow in changing

  • @andrevangijsel957

    Siemens development departmenst are paid and funded from licenses sold to customers via software packages like Tia Portal, PCS7 and Neo. Besides that they sell hardware modules like cpu/s etc.
    Microsoft 365 has an annual fee every year depening on user quantity. Microsoft windows is licenced.
    There is nothing wrong with that in my opinion. The total cost you can argue about but nobody works for free,

    • @JakobSagatowski
      @JakobSagatowski  4 місяці тому +10

      The software is only used to program their own hardware, not any competitors hardware. You can't use Simatic AX, Tia Portal or any other of the Siemens software to program an AB controller. This model with free programming software works successfully for other vendors (like Beckhoff), and I don't see why it shouldn't for Siemens. It's not about working for free. It's about shifting the cost (see my other video in the video description). They are shooting themself in the foot, as fewer people (outside of the industry) can try it out, making adoption slower.

      Could you argue that if it supports IEC 61131-3 ST that you COULD use it to develop other platforms that also are true ST compliant? Or vice versa bring other programs into AX?

      I can't see that happening as the source code is stored in plain text. Means you can use any version control system of your choice if you don't want to use the one that is integrated into AxCode.

    To be honest, I'm no longer hoping for Siemens to make the right moves. Even if they make them, they ruin it by putting a greedy pricetag on it. I mean, dude, I just want a possibility to write the code in a normal free texteditor, then compile/test it. It's not hard!
    Btw. WinCC unified with the "native web tech" is just a stupid marketing gag too. If I can't use JS libraries JS is useless.
