to me as well, I already I have Xperia 5 II which is an easy recomendation but of course 2021 flagships are better while 2020 lineup for a cheaper price are easy recomendations as well (but 2020 1 II has a software imitation of 90 Hz screen which should be kept in mind even though I think it should be smooth enough)
@@SomeGadgetGuy By the way Juan, now that LG Mobile's gone 😭 (sob) what's your favourite headphone jack-phone currently? I'm guessing this Mk 1 iii Sony at this time is near or at the top for you... hmm?
Every time I look at my "wanna cry" photos coming from Xperia 1 II, I think the same - " Nothing feels like Xperia...." :( . Only $1100 Xperia can deliver such poor photos. I wish it wasn't sad truth.

That is a great phone and I don't want to hype you up but wait until you jump on the Sony gravy train. It's LG plus luxury. Sony phones are on another level of premium. I'm so excited for you! I left the Sony world to try another stupid Samsung (S10+) that broke in 8 months ($1,400 Black Ceramic 512GB) that I got for $1,000 through a sign up offer deal. Got a Sony 10+ to hold me through. I got interested in the Pixel 5 so tried this out and it's a good experience but very basic. Also very value oriented. Anyways I'm glad to be going back to the Sony Flagship experience. I've tried almost everything out there. The only gripes I have with Sony phones is No Wifi calling! Other than that it's pretty much perfection.
I'm definitely interested in this phone, currently using a Galaxy S9 and the fact that almost everything I like about this phone is gone on the S21, means I'm going to move brands. Its a shame most alternatives are just as feature free.
It's a REALLY different vibe than most current phones, and I get why it can be a bit divisive. But if you dig on hardware features, Sony is the last option available.
@@everstar8056 Sammy is smoother around the software features it still has, problem is it doesnt have many left. No included charger, no headphonejack, no expandable storage, no display advancements and a contravertial soc managment. It still remains the goto for many shoppers but f*** that i want more.
Galaxy S9+ here. I'm contemplating all the things I love about my phone, and I see most phone brands--including Samsung--have decided many features I love are no longer needed. Audio jack with good clarity, external storage, big uninterrupted TV-like display, front-firing speakers, variable lens, etc. It is baffling how new phones that are more expensive than ever provide less experience than old phones.
@@jthecool9225 This is exactly why I've stuck with my S9+. I don't want to downgrade when getting a new phone, and everything I have seen on the market lately is a downgrade. I'm worried that this Xperia phone won't hold up on the software side, and the battery life is a bit concerning, especially with age.
buying expensive pc components for processing 6k/8k red raw which ultimately most will watch below 1080p is OBVIOUSLY much easier than changing a dial in the camera app
What, you want a phone reviewer to spend more than 3 hours actually exploring the phone with real critical analysis? The nerve! What makes people so damn audacious these days?
@@AMalas I know right? It's way more efficient to just say an iphone or a Galaxy is better because.......reasons. Why trouble or burden your mind with thinking about the existence of any other brands?
I really like what Sony has been doing recently. I had my eye on the 5ii for months until I finally gave in and bought it. I had been so turned off by everything else on the market that it was the only phone I would have considered to replace my XZ1. It's a good sign that review units are being sent to big youtubers and videos are actually being made. More people need to see these phones.
@@farishanafiah8461 Felt like MKBHD was a little dismissive. Linus' vid wasn't substantial, but that's what that channel (Short Circuit) is about, quick first impressions and he was hyped. After holding out on upgrading from a Note 9 (yes, a 3 year old phone!), and being consistently also pissed at stuff like notches, hole punches, removal of stuff, that's pretty good news for creating hype for the phone.

Really considering about getting this one even if it is a bit on the expensive side. The only standard style phone (meaning not a foldable) that interests me at all.
Not sure if this was covered in this video but other reviewers have noted how you can't turn off the 4K display to say 2K or 1080P so you will only be getting about 3-4 hours screen on time. Deal-breaker for me.
@@israelmakinde5546 with a 4k screen + 120Hz refresh rate I don't see the lie but I'm sure you can get even 8-12 hours screen on time if you just text on the phone and nothing else but if you are a power user this thing will not get you through a day of use. You don't buy a phone like this and not use all it's powerful features.
This is a very good personal review on this phone. I've been buying Sony phones since the Xperia Z and I really enjoy what they provide as far as features and the functionality of the phone. This review made me go " someone actually gets it".
I REALLY wish Sony had a distribution deal with carriers in the United States. I feel it would be more popular if it was an option to buy some way other than ALL AT ONCE

@lalruatfela hrahsel the xperia 5ii and 1ii didn't get bright enough as display, so when outside in the sun it could be hard to see what was on the display.
they are still not bright enough. see mr mobile video or gsmarena: The Xperia 1 III's maximum brightness tops out at 560nits in adaptive brightness mode and 356nits when operating the slider manually. This result isn't competitive against rivaling high-end offerings.
Man....your video made me smile, the way you mocked other big guys was really good.........absolute accurate line to deliver right now "nothing feels like XPERIA" I want that era back where sony was the king of smartphones
Exactly! The expandable memory on my Xperia 1 II is used for lossless music files and 4K videos, along with the headphone jack. Will only replace it with another Xperia with these features. Why should we accept the cut on features when paying for a premium product? I was kind of keen on the S21 Ultra until I heard it has no expandable memory slot. And nothing beats the alpha tech on the Xperia - when capturing action shots with eye AF.
"I'm Shooting this on an A7siii" as a Sony shooter myself, this part cracked me up! Loved the information and video Juan! Appreciate your time spent making it. 🙏🏼
I'm happy to see so many more videos on this line of phones. Last year I bought the Xperia 5 II. I love it. I hope more people think about Sony in their next phone purchase.
I'm looking forward to finding out how well the telephoto lens performs. The reliability of the AF on the first generation was not great. It was improved on the second generation. Now that the telephoto lens has a Dual PD AF sensor (like the other lenses) I hope its a major improvement.
Great video. I always appreciate your transparency. The phone is expensive, but what isn't these days? It's also priced within range of the competition. I'm a XPERIA 1 user who has already pre-ordered the Sony XPERIA 1 III. The tech is amazing no denying that. The comfort, look and feel are a huge selling point for me. The XPERIA phones are slim and feel great in the hand.
Sony has made a beast of a phone! Some might say it the most enthusiastic phone (aka MKBHD) but it's actually a phone that has all the bells and whistles! The camera! I don't know how good it is! But it's a different class! A different standard on mobile photography that's for sure! Love this phone! Really good! It's phone all can own if they can afford it!
This is THE PHONE I want. It's a fantastic looking device and it really looks like it ties together the Xperia 1 and 1ii nicely. I have the Xperia 1 mark I and it's a great device. The cameras and display are incredible. Not to mention the SD card/headphones jack is great. I mean how can't you be impressed by this device? These common reviewers annoy the hell out of me yet all they do is love on the iphone and Samsung

@@SomeGadgetGuy I was watching mkbhd talk about the Xperia 1 III and he was like, "for all the cameras I thought I could get a better image." I was like... Really dude? He said at the beginning of the review he used it on and off for a month. @@SomeGadgetGuy you just call out the lazy reviewers and keep it honest. This is precisely why I love your channel. You cover all your bases. That analogy is perfect though and I completely agree. These reviewers essentially downgrade a phones best features to compare it to a Samsung or iphone then proceed to complain that it doesn't compete when that's not the point. It's really just disappointing there isn't more accountability. We don't need to lose Sony in the market like LG was lost. And these reviewers don't think about that. Sony is offering everything, and more, yet it needs to be cheaper when it's launching at the same price as it's competitors with less features? No. Thanks for keeping honest man. I hope you're able to keep covering the Xperia 1 III more. I am definitely going to be upgrading to it from my 1 I
One huge point with Xperias (and Sony devices in general) that doesn't get talked about enough is their quality and longevity. I'm still rocking an Xperia XZ2 Premium that's over two years old and works as well now as it did when it was new. The battery has held up amazingly well, it's still snappy, the speakers still sound good, and the 4k LCD still looks great. Not to mention, my 20 year old stereo, 22 year old home theater receiver, 17 year old discman (which has taken a beating), 5 year old handycam - all Sony products and still working well. For that reason alone, I will always choose a Sony device over a Samsung.
Xperia xz premium still working great .I'm more than ready to get this phone but damn $1200. Been Sony fan girl since my first smartphone. My Xperia z4 tablet still works too but battery needs replacement.
I feel really lucky being able to pick up an LG Wing at $500, but this is the phone I have truly been waiting for. Glad to hear your opinion on it and that it truly is everything its chalked up to be.
This phone looks great, but it's certainly not for me! After buying high end LG phones for half price, I'm realizing now that I never really used the power and features that it offered. It was wasted potential. So its down to the mid range for me from now on and I am not ashamed! Your arguments are about getting real value from flagships are on point. Keep it up!
@@FrodoMaster1996 Unfortunately Sony pulled out of Canada a few years back. I really liked the new xperia 10 however! At this point it seems I'll never get my hands on a Sony since international models don't work well on my network here.
I'm glad you called out the trick some use to zoom in in low light (switching to the main sensor and cropping). Galaxy phones are notorious for this, and the user has no choice, for better or worse. Even in Pro mode, the Tele lenses are unusable.
Ive been using Xperia 1 ii for a year now and its been amazing, first phone I actually dont want to change (ofc I would want the latest 1 iii but forget that). The phone still baffles me every day, thats how much I like it. I can actually highly recommend Sony phones now.
Also painfully clear they haven't used the features which make a phone unique. "I lazily took THREE WHOLE PHOTOS from the phone without bothering to get a feel for it! GARBAGE!"
I wish the Xperia 5 gets more coverage. The Xperia 1 is a great phone but it's also the most expensive and "enthusiast focused" as MKBHD said. The Xperia 5 looks and feels like the average consumer's ideal phone, imo, it only cuts the features that most won't even notice (4K, wireless charging and the ToF sensor). I see a lot of comments saying the X1 is too expensive and I'm afraid it might discourage people from checking out the X5 and X10. After losing LG, I want Sony to succeed more than ever.
I'm not bothered by expensive. That's kinda the point. This is the MOST phone Sony will sell, and it should be judged against THAT metric for an audience interested in buying that. We shouldnt be pretending that an S21 Ultra is a good phone for "average consumers" just because it's a couple hundred dollars cheaper on sale. That is also a NICHE device.
@@SomeGadgetGuy I don't mean to downplay the Xperia 1 at all. I think it's a great achievement for a phone - 4K 120Hz on a 6.6 inch display? It's incredible. But I feel like the Xperia 5 is being completely ignored here. The bigger tech UA-cam channels like MKBHD and Linus are focusing on the X1, and most people who don't follow tech very much rely on them for news. Then there's Arun (Mrwhosetheboss) who I feel was overly critical of them, and very unfair in his criticisms. In the middle of all this, the X5 isn't getting much attention, and I wish it did. It deserves more love, because I feel it suits average customers who don't want to go that far in their budget. The Xperia 1 is amazing, but it is a niche product. And the Xperia 5 has the longest "reach" in terms of price/performance. So yeah, I don't mean to say the ultimate flagships like Xperia 1 and Galaxy S21 Ultra don't deserve all the praise. I just want the more affordable models to also get some of that praise. MKBHD did a review for the S21 and praised Samsung for cutting features from the Ultra that most won't notice to achieve that affordable price. Just wish he (and more tech channels) did the same for Sony. P.S. Loved the video.
@@dhruvtukadiya I could be wrong but I think the only reason the Xperia 5 iii isn't getting attention is due to the fact it hasn't been released yet. I'm guessing as soon as it is available to the public we will see more videos about it.

I'm really glad someone besides myself is annoyed of the trend of losing features on premium phones. I'm usually a compulsive upgrader but my LG G8 is still doing so well for me that I can't let it go yet, and there's nothing to replace that headphone amp either. I just hope by the time I do have to upgrade, Sony is still making phones like this! I'm curious how long it will be though, in years past devices would start to feel pretty slow after a couple years. Now I've had this thing for 2 years and it still feels like it's faster than I need for anything and hasn't slowed down or lost battery capacity at all.

Just got this phone and it is the one designed for photographer. Ya gotta really check out the 4k screen in real time to admire it's beauty. The only downside of the phone is the puny 4500mAh battery which can be drained really fast by the 4k HDR oled screen. If only Sony has packed it with at least 6000mAh battery, we would not mind the extra weight of the phone can last a bit longer. Also, it is also tailored for audiophile with its numerous sound settings especially DSEE which can upscale the music quality using A.I.
Wow. Don't usually comment on videos, but I had to compliment your style. I caught myself nodding along during the first few minutes, so I guess I found myself my new go-to tech reviewer. Thanks for the honesty and down-to-earth opinions! Also, those skits cracked me up. It's a bit painful how recognizable they are.
Fantastic review/first impressions. When I bought my Zenfone 6 back in 2020, it was mostly for the same reasons you like Xperias. Asus isn't quite what Sony is for the all camera experience, but they tend to offer a combination of feature-rich hardware and cleen software with focus on battery-care features on the cheaper side, and I would say the flip-camera is arguably the best answer to screen-cutouts. Unfortunately the feature-rich part doesn't hold as true anymore, as if you choose an Asus phone from 2021, you lose micro-SD no matter what. On the flip-side, if you want the best DACs available on phones after the loss of LG, they are one of the ways to go, if not the way. So as much as I like Asus, I think only Sony can pull the true upgrade to my Zenfone 6. I want them to continue this way, I want them as an alternative when my phone needs to be replaced. Just like I want to continue hearing your brutally honest point of view on where the smartphone market is going. Keep it up!
I bought the LG Velvet last year, but now that LG has pulled out, I'm recommending Sonys. Just recommended the XPERIA 10 III to my family, as I find it a great midrange offering, even if it cannot compete spec wise with the OnePlus Nord CE 5G for example.
I'm already seeing others filling the LG hate void with Sony. This review makes me believe Juan has seen the same thing. @Juan. What do you recommend. A V60 or Xperia 1 iii? I'm on Tmobile..
Nice review of the device, I still have an Xperia 1 which I am pretty content with but unfortunately just shattered the screen so just ordered on of these. Looks like it'll be a decent step up.
Uncle Juan. The only reviewer I honestly believe. I’ve had the Lg V50, dual screen V60, Xperia 1 and Xperia 1ii. I now have a iPhone 12 Pro Max. My first iPhone, and I gotta say the point and shoot is refreshing because I don’t know how to use the pro apps. The battery on my iPhone kills all my previous androids. I miss the headphone Jack though. Screen casting. Reverse wireless charging seems cool. How is the 1 iii better than the 1 ii? Night photos sucked for me with the 1 ii. The battery was at 78 by the time I drove to work. Do I leave my first iPhone for the Xperia 1iii? 4K 120hz was something I wanted on the 1ii. Better battery too. The camera hardware always seemed the best to me…but the outcomes never seemed to match.
It sounds like you're running into those different philosophies between what Apple and Sony are trying to achieve. It's never "one phone is best", but "one phone will be a better fit for a specific person". I get snarky with gadget nerds, but people should be looking to get the best fit for their needs. And depending on what it is YOU really need, the iPhone might be a better fit. Especially on battery life concerns, it might even be worth looking a step lower at the larger iPhone "base model" iphones for future purchases. If you're not really driving the camera hardware that aggressively, why not save the cash?
@@SomeGadgetGuy makes sense. I can say that I appreciate Android more, but have been pleasantly surprised by the battery life and instantly great photo/video quality of the iPhone. I don’t like apple computers and am a windows man but the phone is doing well. I have a need to feel like I’m capable of anything and want to master the Sony software for photos. That screen at 4K and now with 120hz…..whoa. Full daylight brightness photos are just as good on the Sony. $1,300 🤮 I only have my iPhone from an eBay bidding war, $560!!!!
I've a question: coming off a Motorola phone where I could shake-gesture the camera on, I was really pleased with how quickly (and without looking) I could reach the camera. Is there any way of doing this with a Sony Xperia?
Normally I'm not one to endorse a 4 figure phone, but this phone really does pack a lot of hardware and features that no other phone does. If I was in the market for a new phone, this would definitely be on the radar. I only hope in the future Sony can add a desktop mode, and maybe be able to partner with carriers. Maybe even add on to the power management settings, like limiting your charge to like 80%.
Great review I've been feeling much the same way. I jumped ship from Samsung to sony phones a while ago. When they brought their phone company in house and stopped that sony ericson junk. Loved them ever since. Every phone I get is fantastic and that battery care is just the BEST. My mark III is on the way. Upgrading from the mark 1.
My friend gave me an Xperia 1 and the 21:9 aspect ratio is honestly addicting but I wish Sony and UA-cam could work on some kind of special software to make all UA-cam videos playable in 21:9 so nothing gets cropped. Don't know if this possible. Anyways I think Sony are headed in the right direction and have nailed majority of the user experience aspects. I hope the next Xperia has better zoom, a robust auto mode to please casuals, yet retain a great design without ugly cameras at the back.
I mean, you really have to work it to get a BAD shot out of an XPERIA, but I doubt Sony will EVER lean hard on the Samsung style unicorn puke saturation.
@@SomeGadgetGuy true, you can always edit an Xperia's picture to be oversaturated but you can't edit a Samsung to have natural true to life neutral colors
Samsung, Pixel and LG all just opened up a huge place for Sony to take over. Pure android with top chip-set, expandable storage, audio jack, and 120htz 4k display. Pixel hopped out of pure android top chip-set, Samsung hopped out of expandable storage, and LG just hopped out so they gave up the audio jack grouping.
what options in the pro app or so would you use if you want to make a selfie but also with good background? i love making selfies with a good background look from a big scene or so
They're putting in some effort, but it's pretty low key. I kinda feel in NA, they're treating it like a super premium luxury car. If you need to be TOLD about it, it's probably not for you 😂
Because market is driven by demand and most people wants phone with feature that they can relate to. Super duper extreme fast charging, express smooth liquid cotton 1000++ refresh rate screeen, that sells and they know it at an instant this feature. Sensitivity slider? Battery care? Superb reliability that ensure your GPS still good even though you dropped times and times again? This doesn't sell and they doesn't care. Thats why I used Sony. Never had once their GPS failed me, while I dropped Samsung once and it started telling me that im at another country.
I guess you hade a pre production unit of the Xperia 1 iii and all you said is true unlike many other you tubers whoe only talk rabish . I have the Xperia 1 ii since 1 year and never experience any problems and it still is an excellent but the 1 iii takes it a step farther and it still has all the features that you wont find any where else so i will buy it . Keep up the good work .
Trade off? No. But it is a concern. It makes the one year upgrade cycle REALLY tricky, where an 865 might be similar in performance, especially longer interactions. Someone coming from a two year old or three year old Sony will still be in for an upgrade, especially for how Sony manages performance better without pre-throttling the CPU out of the box like Samsung, and driving about 1.5 million more pixels than an S21 Ultra.
Now that you had a chance to experience the new Xperia 1 mark 3, has Sony made any improvements to the headphone jack situation over the Xperia 1 mark 2? With LG out of the market, there are not many phones that support to offer Hi-res audio. Really looking for something to upgrade too from my daily driver LG V40.
Ever since LG pulled out of the market, Sony Xperia has been on my radar. Once my V50 hits the dust, I'm considering getting one.
Yup! I'm super sad I won't get to shoot a V70 vs X1iii comparison this year...
to me as well, I already I have Xperia 5 II which is an easy recomendation but of course 2021 flagships are better while 2020 lineup for a cheaper price are easy recomendations as well (but 2020 1 II has a software imitation of 90 Hz screen which should be kept in mind even though I think it should be smooth enough)
I'm in the exact same boat. LG to Sony.

Samsung is better as an overall package
What was your experience on a daily basis so far?

The XPERIA phones are slim and feel great in the hand.

One huge point with Xperias (and Sony devices in general) that doesn't get talked about enough is their quality and longevity. The battery has held up amazingly well, it's still snappy, the speakers still sound good, and the 4k LCD still looks great.

I'm usually a compulsive upgrader but my LG G8 is still doing so well for me that I can't let it go yet, and there's nothing to replace that headphone amp either. I just hope by the time I do have to upgrade, Sony is still making phones like this! Now I've had this thing for 2 years and it still feels like it's faster than I need for anything and hasn't slowed down or lost battery capacity at all.

Almost kinda like a few folks out there are shooting "reviews" without really using it huh? I still want to know what they DO on premium phones. Like, why own one if you're showing off the lowest BASIC use of a phone that could easily be accomplished at around $300.
Thanks Juan your reviews are always great, you're like Sony or LG, you make your reviews for a very specific people!
I prefer QUALITY subscribers over QUANTITY "subs".
My viewers aren't "sub". 😁
@@SomeGadgetGuy this video made me switch to Xperia from a pixel, I just hated how something so basic la focus couldn't be properly controlled on a pixel I remember my LG V30 being capable of focus peaking and I missed that
DRIVES ME NUTS! I begged the pixel engineering team to give us a manual mode. I understand why they won't, but after a point, these specific solution modes just make a camera more complicated and more difficult to use than just including basic traditional camera controls.
Really cool that you can play mobile games on the PS4 or PS5 controller. Cool phone. Glad you found a phone that can replace that LG hole.
Can't lie. Feels pretty good.
Watching on my Xperia 1 while using my wf1000 xm4 and just pre ordered the mark 3 love Sony products
I wholeheartedly agree. I'm baffled how it became acceptable for expensive phones to *take away* features, instead of giving a complete experience.
Because smartphone brands can always lobby popular sponsored UA-camrs, simple as that.
It's WAY less fun when the game is THAT obvious.
I really want to spend some time with one.
I'm already seeing others filling the LG hate void with Sony. This review makes me believe Juan has seen the same thing.
@Juan. What do you recommend. A V60 or Xperia 1 iii? I'm on Tmobile..
1:40 Hi there, Can you tell us what display Laptop you used @1:40 and share it's link for detail description with price.
Thanks for the great review.
Great to get a technical review of this phone . Seems like it needs a little input to get excellent photo results .
Like any camera does, but the green box auto mode is VERY good.
I actually agree 100, this my next phone lol it's crazy.
It's kinda refreshing to have features on a phone again...
Man I love your reviews, your sincerity and passion shines through so much.
Question now though is, do I upgrade from the Xperia 1 ii?
I'm shooting THAT video today... Stay tuned...
@@SomeGadgetGuy Happy days, thanks for all you do man.
I've a question: coming off a Motorola phone where I could shake-gesture the camera on, I was really pleased with how quickly (and without looking) I could reach the camera. Is there any way of doing this with a Sony Xperia?
I love the way sony are designing their phones
Normally I'm not one to endorse a 4 figure phone, but this phone really does pack a lot of hardware and features that no other phone does. If I was in the market for a new phone, this would definitely be on the radar.
I only hope in the future Sony can add a desktop mode, and maybe be able to partner with carriers. Maybe even add on to the power management settings, like limiting your charge to like 80%.
That would be a GREAT add on. Battery Care is already REALLY good for changing the charge speed. ua-cam.com/video/ReTM6yYIfaA/v-deo.html
Congrats on the new phone!
A fair review at last instead of youtubers putting down the xperia saying its all for enthusiastic customers
In my opinion its the best for your money
Finally a reviewer that understamds the photography part of the phone
💯
Samsung, Pixel and LG all just opened up a huge place for Sony to take over. Pure android with top chip-set, expandable storage, audio jack, and 120htz 4k display. Pixel hopped out of pure android top chip-set, Samsung hopped out of expandable storage, and LG just hopped out so they gave up the audio jack grouping.
Well reviewed. As usual.
what options in the pro app or so would you use if you want to make a selfie but also with good background? i love making selfies with a good background look from a big scene or so
A nice review. Do you notice any overheating issues that could be defined as unusable?
Bro just roasted most of the tech reviewers 👌🏾😂 and I'm all for it
"B-b-b-but all the AVURAJ CUNZOOMERS?!?!?! How will THEY know how to SAY the NAME of the phone?!?!?"
Sony REALLY needs to market this thing. It has every enthusiast feature including a headphone jack and also a damn charger in the box.
They're putting in some effort, but it's pretty low key. I kinda feel in NA, they're treating it like a super premium luxury car. If you need to be TOLD about it, it's probably not for you 😂
Watching this on my xz2 premium.. Planning to get the 1iii or 1ii 😀😀. Great video..
Juan, is Sony fully compatible with T-Mobile?
Verizon has certified this phone
Yes. I just ordered mine a few minutes ago.
One of the happiest tech reviewer on YT ✌️
Keep up the happiness bro 👍
Hey Juan, do you think the 888 is its biggest tradeoff considering the wide overheating claims? Or do you not?
Trade off?

Thank you for this review Juan - better than a lot out there!
