I’ve got an ‘84, water cooled and still slow. You’re very lucky to have a local mechanic that will even look at your van. Here in a Arkansas and when I lived in Tennessee almost no one wanted to touch mine.
My dad got a VW camper van n the early 1970s. It almost always broke down daily. So we didn’t take it on many trips. My dad did all his own work and got tired of it. But if it had run well it would have been a great camping van. My mom just couldn’t take tent camping anymore. My sister learned to drive in the 1980s in a VW van. Same kinds of issues. But they are cool old vans when they run well. Love what you’ve done with yours
The best driving I ever did was a US army vanagon in Germany 1983 that was a US army issue vanagon for the unit. Simple four-speed upright arm y green.
You were lucky,my family vacation was spent doing yard work,we had 60 +yard care jobs to do +I had house cleaning jobs about 10 + helping my mom with 2sisters & 2 brothers and helping with our own family
We did go to the fair every year but one, we had an emergency a tree fell in one of our customers yards and we had to get it taken care of,my dad promised that we would go next year and we did
I ❤all the modifications to make it your own. That tool compartment is legit. Yes mate, I'd say you have a lil gem to call your own. lol makes for a sweet spot if you n your wife ever have spats, she can say go get in the "vanagain"🤣✌
One huge advantage to having a few batteries is looking into Higher output alternators I was lucky on the cost of one on my 2005' Chevy blazer 2--door 4x4 They come with a 85amp Alt ...bigger trucks (chevy tahoe)with all the toys like power heated seat Use a 145 amp Alt Which fits perfect in the Blazer They bolt right up Only thing you must change is to a 1 inch bigger belt For those days you get no solar Normally when we go camping we use lights at night Or run the Mini computer to watch a movie And keep the cooler running ..By day time After grinding coffee and plugging in the perk We still have some power Which is fixed when we drive to the 50 cents/15 mins coin op showers (they look like double size porta pottys) Then a short trip into town for wood And other odds and ends By the time we return we have full power
Nice video/ have question in regards to your struts on top/ I have a 1982 westy/ I had a pair of struts installed on top (like yours I believe) heavy duty. Had Thule storage bin on top also/ worked fine for aGood while/ than all,of a sudden it took 2 of us to close it/ crazy/ not a lot of input form go westy on that/ at least they didndt solve my issue/ I ended up taking them off/ so I could raise and lower it/ I do have a small pair of struts on it/ any thoughts on this? have you had any issues? Thx David

Hi. How are you? ; Since Corona, ordinary daily life is more precious than ever. Now that it's winter, I hope there's no more damage.
This guy has about 5 different accents simultaneously I am so confused.
LoL, I came here to comment, no ways he's local to Oregon! LoL Aussie? NZ?
Funny
Any info on your diesel heater?

What do you use for toilet and shower?
Has a sprinter for when he does not want to break down
Is that an Aussie or Brit accent ???
No toilet?
Could a $10 heater from Walmart heat up this van? Hmm.. 🤔 🤔
Aussie accent can't figure out where hes from
