Two of the first songs I can recall sitting down and trying to learn are Die by the Sword and Black Magic. Always seems both a shame are not necessarily beneficial that new players are so often guided towards learning music they don't particularly like or want to play for no greater reason than 'because it's what people learn'. Slayer and Darkthrone had me tremolo picking better than people I knew who had played for years within a couple of months.
Simon you’re the best brotha !!! You just intuitively know man what we want. This is such a great tutorial and tribute really , to honoring the greatest thrash Gods Slayer. Really loved how you picked some more remote ones. RIP Our great man Jeff Hanneman who fed and nourished us while alive and for many years to come
My first guitar was a crappy BC Rich KKV, just because of Slayer. I could have gone with a 'normal' guitar or at least not a V for my very first instrument, being a person that has never even touched a classical or acoustic guitar in their life, let alone an extreme shaped electric guitar. It was heavy and uncomfortable but you know what, it was worth it, Slayer was the band that made me a metalhead 15+ years ago, I regret nothing.
@@morbidcorpse5954 I mean, it's not great but at least the Kahler tremolo can lock, so it would be fine to write black metal with. Mine doesn't hold tuning at all unless I lock it like a fixed bridge . .
@@TidusfromZanarkand Hmm. I wrote my black metal project Abysmal Daemon Demo with it if you want to hear what it sounds like in a half ass production 😂😂
@@TidusfromZanarkand read the troubleshooting section of the kahler installation on whammy parts, that will probably help you keep your guitar in tune.
@@AFXSnares I don't use it anymore, it's an art piece hanging in my room at this point ^ Also I don't mind having a guitar with a fixed bridge, my main guitar now is a Jackson Warrior with a FR Special, which I have zero problems with. Thanks for the help ^
Awesome vid. ..trying to teach my grandson to play.started with the whole shout at the devil album which he picked up pretty quick.now on to some slayer riffs, started with bloodline and Jesus saves which I think are the easiest slayer songs to learn... thanks
I'll have to revisit At Dawn They Sleep - it looks like you miss 1 note in that riff I think there is a G# in the 'Authorized' tab book also I love & appreciate your content
I think too when Phil grabbed the dime slime on stage and started to play the slayer , My kids are on to death chuck , Melodic I guess, Next progression Totally appreciate your music intuition, New dark throne is kinda where I'm at tone wise on a Laney LV tube

Interesting, I've been playing since 2000 and bought a KKV last year because it looked cool and cheap enough for writing black metal music.

Slayer!!!! Thanks, Simon!
Great stuff as always!
Slayer's early riffs are amazing. And it was clear, even from their performance, how boring Slayer's current riffs are now.
Thanks! Great work!
Sounds good with the doom tempo 🤘🏻

Some of these are embarrassingly easy. Thank you for the video.
Pity I'm not a Slayer fan. Those riffs are kickass! Oh, and looks like a great excercises. Thanks, man.
