man this brings bake memory's i remember watching that race with my dad, i can still smell the diesel and rubber, Merv used to be called swervin mervin when he first started racing. man those trucks were cool, i wish i could see them race again but thats not going to happen thanks to the city of calgary and there ever expanding land fill and the new stoney trail but thats ok well just build more hockey rinks how needs racing anyways man i hate this city now

see how some of the truck have wings on them and som do not, Does having those wings on the back of them actually help with the Downforce on the rears of the trucks...and yes, this in a way will always remind me of the opening scenes from the 2nd Smokey and the Bandit movie....LOL

well, in europe, you will see MAN TGA, scania, renault, Mercedes Axor and even volvo race on the race track, they run on 12 litre engine with 1000hp and 6000 ft of torque!!!

I watched the big rigs run at Daytona on tv, I think in the 80's, it was bad. More wrecks than actual racing

These wrecks are nothing. I live in New Zealand and went to to a truck race at Manfield park in 2003. A truck got clipped doing about sixty, spun onto the grass and cartwheeled about five times down the front straight. Now thats a wreck!!!!

not that i'm saying you don't have any expierience, because the only expierience i have is putting windshields in rigs, but these trucks sound like diesel to me, they even have the black smoke.
I think it's more like 75ft per gallon. :)
I'm pretty sure they are. This is racing and stock HP and RPM ratings don't matter. If a gas engine is blowing black smoke like that it's running like garbage and has no business on a track.
Maybe these racing semi trucks must have 1600 horsepower diesel engines. 1600 horsepower diesel engines might be the most powerful diesel engines.

There is no way that they are diesel engines. I have driven rigs for 16 years. Diesel engines do not sound like that. But it would still be fun.
