    painting outside of the hull you could use electro-stactic discharge way to paint.
    The hull is negatively charged and the paint positive charged.The same way they paint cars very efficient.

    Sv seeker, hey man look I have a Toyota diesel forklift that runs and is yours if you want it and it's free. It's a little hard to start and could use new rings but once it warms up a little it runs like a champ. It has yard tires and would be perfect for your project. I got a new forklift and don't have time to mess with it. So come get it and it's yours just keep making great videos. Also it's in golden co just outside of Denver.

      +SV Seeker Hey man well if you change your mind let me know. Me and the wife are thinking about taking a trip down to our family's ranch in TX and would be willing to make a detour and drop it off to you guys if the timing worked out. Also we own a business that specializes in large and precision stainless steel work along with mild steel. We have CnC mills, welding, shears, press break (up to 3/8ss) lathes and a large plasma table capable of handling 5X20' and up to 2inch thick ss currently. I have a large stock of ss and mild steel flat, square tubing, larger rood, shapes and large stainless pipe. I would be more than willing to donate some machine shop time and material to this project 100% free of charge I'm hooked on your videos and they have provided hours of enjoyment, I just wish I had come across them sooner so I could have helped early on!!! My email is evaporativetechnologiesllc@gmail.com
      P.s. We can also CnC cut complex shapes into small and large mild and ss pipe.

    We used the Swedish standards for rating blasting a very simple but effective system. At the end of the day though the operator will develop an eye for what's good enough I always thought the best thing is to paint the steel ASAP after blasting. Keep that CT Epoxy off your skin and don't breath the fumes if you weld it. Painting is my thing cant wait to see a few finish coats going on your ship would love to come have a look but its half a world away from me.

    Doug, how quickly do you have to get the steel painted after sandblasting?

    • @SVSeeker
      @SVSeeker  8 років тому +1

      +Peter Jenner It depends on the humidity, temperature, proximity to salt or oils, and the paint. Fast drying, if water is used, and as soon as the moisture is removed is preferred. But Eric, who knows, swears by a product called "Holdtight 102", so I have some on the way in order to test.

    Hi Doug yet another far too short but excellent video. I contacted Discovery channel saying they should make a series about your endeavours but they only accept ideas from production companies, what the actual hell. So if you have a production company please contact Discovery channel I hear they contribute financially and who doesn't need that. From all the comments you receive a great deal of them would love to see you on tv

    • @SVSeeker
      @SVSeeker  8 років тому +2

      +Brett Milnes Thanks, but that is not going to happen. I have been contacted by the production companies. They require way too much artificial drama and they constantly bull shit about how "Dangerous" something is. That type of thinking is extremely counter to my own. I'm happy you like the videos, and I am happy to make them as I see fit, and the latter will never change. :)

      +jcadult101 X-Ray or Gamma ray inspection are the common method used on welds like those. Magnetic detection is also usable. Same process (magnaflux) as used on cylinder heads and blocks.

      +jcadult101 Yes! Eric has a good solution for that too. The low cost DIY solution is to build a rectangular box with an acrylic window one side and open on the other but with a thick gasket. Soap water is splashed on the weld joint. The gasket pushed against the steel and a venturi vacuum turned on.

      +SV Seeker I was thinking of more defects than just holes/cracks. Lots of flexing going to occur down there with all the wave action, no? Poor penetration, entrapped gas or slag...

      +jcadult101 Do you fail to do things because you think of things to fear? Find me 1 home built steel boat that was lost due to weld failure.

      Guess I don't follow. You seem to be inspecting the surface prior to priming to help ensure you don't have to pull prematurely due to paint failure. A latent hull crack would be just as annoying. Especially if a viewer had a gadget that would allow for that inspection.
      I've only followed 2 boat projects, a wood/glassed that disappeared before fit out (wheel weight economics/bathtub flask for casting the bulb). And years ago, 2 gals building a steel hull. I think TheSailingChannel is them, it was only a blog way back when. I'd have to watch to know if they made it to water. Last I saw, they loaded a semi and headed out. I liked their use of cut tube when forming corners.

    I am amazed how cleverly you give the impression of lack of planning. Obvious you have a detailed worked out blueprint, but I enjoy how we are fooled into thinking this all goes on the fly.

      No. We don't fool. There are no blueprints. :)

      SV Seeker literally growing up in your family would be like the best education ever, so few young boys, get this kind of practical opportunity to learn from male figures any longer.
