      Because you are looking for change. The 1.4 includes the starting temperature as 1 or 100% so the change is "to the 0.4".

      This is a bit late, but I'd say it's probably due to heat loss to the combustion chamber walls -- wicked good at cooling. It's why efficiency goes up with speed until friction kicks in.
