The earliest records date back to 970 AD, when the Slavs, after having definitively removed the Saracens on the orders of Otto I, founded Pesclizio on the ruins of a farmhouse destroyed by the Saracens.
The first document about the Slav presence in the town of Peschici is dated 1023,. In this document there are not only references on the town of Peschici, but also on the presence of the Slav community in the area and on the excellent relations that this community managed to have with the local population. Another document confirming the presence of the Slavs in Peschici is a donation in 1053, drawn up by Slavs defined as residing in the Pesclizio castle.
The very name of Peschici is probably of Slavic origin, in fact the Slavic root "pès" (or "pèsc") refers to sand, the Slavic toponyms pjèskusa and Russian pèski indicate sandy soil.
In 1177 it was under the fief of Monte Sant'Angelo, donated by William II known as the Good to his wife Giovanna of England. Under the rule of the Swabians, Peschici spent dramatic moments in the dispute between the empire and the papacy.
A chronicler of the time tells us that in September 1239, 25 Venetian galleys sent by Pope Gregory IX against the excommunicated Frederick II, "take and prostrate Bestice (Peschici) and Bestie (Vieste)".
Frederick II, however, will have the fortifications of the two centers rebuilt.
Under the Angevin dynasty, Peschici is among the few villages loyal to King Charles, at the time of the arrival of Corradino di Svevia (1267). In 1274 he took part with Bari, Monopoli, Trani, Vieste and Ortona in the Apulian fleet in the siege of Omiš, a city on the Dalmatian coast. In 1401 the fiefdom passed to King Ladislao of Durazzo.
𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝘀
During the Aragonese dominion, the Gargano supported (1458) the supporting barons of Giovanni d'Angiò against the new king Ferrante, who in 1462 occupied the Gargano entrusting it to Giorgio Castriota Scanderbeg, his ally.
After the Franco-Spanish wars for the possession of the kingdom of Naples in the 16th century, but above all after the umpteenth raids of the Turks, it was decided to build ten towers along the coasts of the Capitanata. Five years later the number of towers rises to 21.
In the 1700s, a plaque placed on the Baronial Enclosure in the historic center certifies that Peschici belonged to the Prince of Ischitella Emanuele Pinto.
Later on it became part of Italy.

Prego Anna, stupenda Peschici! Metterò anche un video di giorno. Sempre stipenda la Puglia
These small villages really reveal how Italy is so beautiful all over, small or big. There is nothing more pleasant to watch than an evening walk in these cities and towns. People come out to the Piazzas and it looks so relaxing and enjoyable. Tour preview and music lovely. Keep up the good work, Riccardo, and thanks for this video. I'm
Dear Esther, glad to see you again, and thank you as always. Indeed... sometimes I feel like I'm sorry I didn't make the dusk videos before... but now I'm starting to appreciate them even more. It's a little tricky to time them, as to show the sunset on the sea at exactly the same time, but I'm glad they are liked it. I'll show another tour of Peschici during the day, much more long and with more historical information as well.
A big big Ciao and wish you a nice week ahead!
This walking tour at dusk was absolutely amazing. So many scenic sights to see everywhere and stunning architecture. The people enjoying themselves, taking walks, eating out, meeting up with friends just adds to the lovely, lively atmosphere. A very beautiful town indeed. Love the friendly dog at the end. I can see it enjoys the attention of the passers-by and being petted.
Glad you enjoyed it Dear Lang, indeed loving those dusk walks more and more... a shame I didn't do them before, at least not so many. Towns look so "alive" compared to daily routines, especially in summer of course. That dog was totally cute, so calm as well) Loved Peschici, a new tour of it during the day will follow
@@StillWanderer Looking forward to it...👍🏽
🤗✌️
Another beautiful little town in the Puglia region! It kind of reminds me of Polignano a Mare. I think it's because these were taken at dusk and the weather was just gorgeous, it really made a stunning representation of those towns. I love walking through the residential areas, and the view of the water just captured my heart. And I'm especially happy that you made new friends there - of course, Riccardo, you're such an approachable person. Comunque, keep showing us these quaint little towns that I now have to put on my list of places to visit the next, next time I'm there. Grazie mille for sharing!
Dear Haupia! So nice to see you again here) Indeed, not the most famous of town, but surely charming, and the new friends were truly great, when I stopped the camera we talked a lot about the town, the area, and funny stuff as well. Quite a day it was... I'll show also Peschici during the day, almost deserted , soon. Quite a different place altogother. Love Puglia very much... I hope to go back before Summer ends... hopefully I make it. Wish you a nice Sunday and thank you again!
A very nice tour in this busy little town 👍❤️🇮🇹
It was burstling with life Angela...I even didn't plan to film it but... amazing town Peschici is... not as famous as other Puglian towns, unfairly so
What a stunning place. Puglia never ceases to amaze me all these little villages have so much charm. It's definately a destination not to be missed. Thank you for sharing
Thank you Janet, glad you enjoyed it. Indeed...love Puglia immensely myself, I wish I could have visited more this year but...summer is finished basically and next year I'll go again. I don't think it would be as beautiful in winter compared to all those people and this atmosphere. Loved it immensely though too!
@@StillWanderer i would have thought winter time would be nice not as busy obviously but the weather would still be ok. If you don't mind me asking do you live in Italy?
I liked this video a lot. Maybe because most of the tour are in places full of restaurants, shops and, people which brings life to this small, nice and very happy city. The lights in the dusk brings such special effect to all. Thank you very much for sharing.
Thank you so much Dear Ivan, indeed... that town was bursting with life that evening... it seems like ages ago already (!)
In my next life, I want to be born in Italy.😁❤️
Last time I had a chance to visit Peschici I walked around this amazing village for hours, just taking pictures of the amazing narrow streets and old fashioned buildings.Amazing views of the Adriatic Sea from most parts .Gorgeous Puglia and amazing food!
Agreed 100% Alex. Peschici and all Puglia is just breathtaking
Oh my, after just talking to you about the boat tour along the Gargano coast, here is Peschici, where we would be staying for one night before taking the boat tour! A lovely little town! You are such a wonderful ambassador for Italy. You do more to showcase Italy than any government tourism department could ever hope to do! Can you recommend the best restaurant in town, since we will be there for one dinner? And as I'm sure you have found in your travels, the best restaurant isn't always expensive. It just has great food, and fresh ingredients never frozen. I will enjoy watching this walking video many times now! Take care!
Hi Ken! Indeed, Peschici was quite a revelation for me... not as famous as others, but good vibes and even good friends I made so...:) Even better. If you plan to go there, I would suggest eating at the "L'angolo Antico" , a little place where I stayed; good prices and excellent quality, I really enjoyed it for sure!
@@StillWanderer Thank you, I will check that out online! The town looks wonderful from what I've watched so far the first time (of many), and one of the best things is I haven't seen one car so far. And they have a castle!
@@kensellar Indeed Ken, fabulous town, the historical centre is pedestrian only as well! I found out the boat name , I wrote in the other comment ))
Gracias querido Gerardo! Saluto a Costa Rica!
IT NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME, HOW BEAUTIFUL & MESMERIZING ITALY IS...WHAT A GORGEOUS PLACE...VANCOUVER, CANADA...;)
Thank you Layna! Lots to discover yet... salute to stunning Canada!
I love your walking tours. In this one, not only the passeggiata but also the way the locals embraced you. I will definitely go to those businesses as soon as I make it to Peschici. Thank you
Thank you so much Marsha, happy to read such words! Indeed, these are the meetings one makes while visiting the towns; I should actually start to write and keep a note-diary kind of thing with me and put them down, maybe I could write something in the future who knows. So many people I've met, usually I just turn the camera off and speak a bit, then continue. But here... they were amazing indeed, and so kind. Glad for what you wrote, I'll show them your message then)
Happy you enjoy the videos; 2 years already... everything started by showing "unusual" italian towns, but with time... more will follow anyway! Wish you a nice weekend ahead and thank you again
Riccardo
Beautiful sunset, atmospheric town!
Greek influence in architecture. Thank you, dear Riccardo!
Oh Alice thank you as always. Indeed, didn't film many at dusk but...I see something very beautiful in them. It was nice also chatting up with the friends there (at 30:30 !) We shared quite a lot of laugh actually) one of those encounters during these filming
Happy for you!
🤗
Great evening walk!! Fantastic! 👍❤

Che meraviglia complimenti per questo bellissimo video...👏👏👏👏👍🙋♀️🌟⭐🌙🌠
Grazie Anna!
It's Most Beautifull Blog ever I have Seen
Thank you so much Sohel ✌️
This one is just a simply beautiful vlog. Riccardo you have done a really great job at capturing the town. How you avoid eating gelato at every corner is truly impressive. Thank you my friend for making this available 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you Lawsonartzy, hah you're right but... As you saw, I made some friends there and one of them is working on the gelateria in the center. We chatted for a long time and took one as well. Beautiful place, beautiful town... missing already summer and Puglia to be honest.
Wonderful location! So glad you did a walk on the golden/blue hour again, Riccardo! The place is even prettier at this time of the day! It is also so great to see it so lively with folks enjoying their time in the alleys and business bustling with the movement.I thought it was funny that around 18 minutes the German shepherd dog came to check on you near the gate you were shooting. Puglia is on my bucket list next time in Italy and your series of videos on the region made it even more appealing! Looking forward to the daytime video. Thanks again for sharing your outstanding work! A presto!
Ciao Pedro! Glad you enjoyed also this different tour... indeed, the difference sometimes is astonishing. I'll upload a day version, and it's like another town. So much life during summer in these places for sure. And yup, that dog was funny) Love Puglia... you must definitely visit it. I'll post some more videos I filmed while there in vacation soon. A presto, and grazie ancora!
Bellissimo video! Grazie!
Grazie a te Eleonora

your intro is amazing! This video is amazing
Dear Jess, thank you as always!
The scenery is beautiful, the alleys. Especially the restaurant where you eat in the alley. 👏
Thank you. 👍

Incantevole come tutta la mia Puglia ❤️
D'accordissimo Alessandra, adoro la Puglia

You have to have strong legs to live or visit this charming town. How do old people get around with lots of stairs and ramps? Not a lot of trees either. Everything is paved. Must be very hot in the summer. But very charming in its own way. Lots of old towns in Europe are built this way. I've been to Italy and loved it. Beautiful country.
Thereza, indeed, sometimes it wasn't so easy) I saw many old people there too...I guess they're used to it since young age, but I agree it's super difficult at times
It's amazing!💖💖
Dear Shaimaa, thank you also for this!
Grazie from the USA🥰
Grazie a te Dave, glad you could have ejoyed this "different" video (the first at dusk I filmed this year). Peschici is such a unique city indeed
Thanks for another great walk!
Magnificient town, friendly people, pleasant atmosphere I really enjoyed waching 😃

Dusk is always a magical time of day, and in a place like Peschici it's more so. Sunset over the water, beautiful! Lovely walk along the narrow alleys. Love it❤️
Ok Riccardo, admit it now, how many gelati did you have?🤭
Btw, did you ever see any of the dances while in Puglia?
Thanks again for sharing 🙂
Couldn't agree more Dear Geraldine, took one while after pausing and meeting the new friends. I stayed there quite a lot)
Didn't see the festivals of dances this year around :( but back in 2018 we were able to see quite a few, also in the Taranta dances in the south. Puglia is stunning
@@StillWanderer I've been watching La notte della Taranta on UTube. I love the dances and music.
There's something very particular and deep in those dances Geraldine. Love them too myself, but just watching them )
@@StillWanderer yes, they are very passionate and expressive. Only watching.......?
Can't really say I'm a great dancer Geraldine))

Obrigado querido William!
Stupenda davvero Ale
14:34 you were by a railing that had some items hung on it. Were those "locks of love"? We had something like that trending in Canada a few years ago.
Hi Sharon) Yup, quite an "old" trend that still , somehow, is quite actual over here as well)
Cảm ơn bạn đã chia sẽ ❣️❣️❣️👍👍👍👍
Trang Thank you!

È in dialetto?
Mi ricorda le isole della Grecia ☺️
Grazie Margarita.
Bellissimo video, noi andiamo sempre a Vieste! Che attrezzatura utilizzi per realizzare i video?
Ciao oshkt, grazie mille, Vieste è stupenda.

When do you think you'll go to Monopoli?
I did already a video in monopoli Gandalf !
Give me an off the beaten track Italy any day of the week- you can keep your Florence an Rome, and good god, not Venice. These gems are sublime. My next trip will be Vicenza, Padua and Mantua 🙏👍🏻
I also believe like that Why oh Why! In fact.... this channel started 2 years ago (it seems ages ago!) with the idea of showing "off-the-beaten-paths" towns, mostly tiny or unknown ones, to the web. With time, of course, I've shown also bigger and more famous cities, but the idea still continues to show "unusual" or "unknown" towns of Italy instead of concentrating on famous ones. Lots of places to follow!
Bruh im going there in like an hour
