Bizarre showcasing foreigners building houses that don’t even fit into the local context.

Unfortunately the culture in Bali is now being destroyed by over tourism and foreigners literally "taking over"

Weird isn’t it, why don’t they showcase a Balinese local designed and built house or at least a foreigner who designs with local design elements incorporated. It looks like a western house plonked in the jungle.

@@chrisk7118 Exactly what I was thinking. My friend is a local Balinese architect and he designs the most beautiful houses in Bali. And there are lots of other great Balinese architects.

I wonder how the drainage system works in this building. Imagine a strong downpour of rain entering this open home with the roof basically integrated into the stairway.

Really enjoyed the first, curved home. A truly stunning design. The others much less so: too boxy and ordinary in comparison.

I wonder how much it will cost to build this kind of house. It's beautiful house. My dreams is living in bali

This video is a little less than eight minutes of pure sensory pleasure.
And there is a hero in it. I didn't realise before this that an 'unknown' architect can be a great cultural hero of somewhere.
Yes I know Ghehry is in Bilbao, Zumthore in the Alps, Siza in Portugal and Hadid in Antwerp but they are ...and this guy is virtually unknown. And yet, he has created not one but three different projects that, although modern entirely in ethos, compliment perfectly the unique cultural setting and heritage of this beautiful______ nay beyond beautiful______ paradise on earth.
    The Context, then?
Well, if you know my views on architecture, I have never believed that to be a requisite for great architecture. I believe architecture of a totally alien sensibility in this oasis of matchless splendour can also be just as alluring standing on its own in stark contrast.
I would agree, though, that this is as convincing a case as any for that celebrated horse's chestnut called 'The Context'.
