If there were to be a remake of Walking with Dinosaurs, this episode should be filmed in the Florida Everglades, as that’s what paleontologists tend to compare the environment of Hell Creek to. They could also make the tone more upbeat to make the extinction scene far more depressing, showing that these dinosaurs, who have been successful for over 160 million years, are being wiped out through no fault of their own.

12:35 i totally agree, its so monstruous i dont get the same feeling as in the other episodes like spirits of the ice forests or the other, it might also be for the monster they call t rex oh god what a design lmao
While definetely a cool, foreboding ending, it is one that feels a bit too overdramatized. If this was to be re-written and somehow still keep the hellish ash fields part, Hell Creek could have been coming out of a recent, massive wild fire, partly due to the hotter and drier climate. It wouldn't be nearly as dramatic, as throughout the episode you'd get the idea that Hell Creek could return to be a beautiful wet forest again, but nature has unfortunately other plans, of course. Not to mention, all the new dinosaurs (Dakotaraptor, Acheroraptor, Anzu, Pectinodon, and so forth) and updated interpretations and discoveries. I still love it, but yeah, this, along with Giant of The Skies, is one of those least accurate episodes in WWD.
@@dawoodwilliams3652 No it didn't, there's no fossil records to prove that Hell Creek was devastated by volcanos. It's called overdramatization and outdated reconstruction.
@@yrooxrksvi7142 it's called storytelling, which alludes to coming destruction and imminent doom, which is the whole theme of the episode, which it does very effectively, connecting with the audience, instead of just telling the audience, letting the audience feel what is coming. Why more people can't seem to understand this is beyond me. That's the key to any good form of poetic storytelling. Definitely not "overdramatized" As for Fossil records, what we have to realize is that it's speculative, as with most shows like this, there will be a level of accuracy, however there will always be a level of speculation and inaccuracies, many paleontologists of the time, believed this particular scenario, many still does, many doesn't, the fossil record can only show so much and there will always be holes in it, every paleontologist, paleobotanist and geologist i spoke to acknowledges this, and there is some things and events that many has different opinions of, this is not uncommon. So is it outdated? Possibly Is the entire show outdated in many key areas? Definitely, as many new discoveries that was found prior to the show and after show, is now held as fact. Did the episode do a good job in portraying an effective understanding of the Dinosaurs end? Most definitely
Triceratops was always my favorite as a kid ,so I was disappointed we only got to see a dead one. Plus I feel like ankylosaurs was not only over sized but it’s treated as a complete unstoppable tank. In reality it would have certainly be on the menu for T-Rex. Also I prefer the Cretaceous episode in When Dinosaurs roamed America.
Not to mention, as VaderTyrannus mentioned in one of his videos, I like that the Ankylosaurus is actually shown as the aggressor in its confrontation with Tyrannosaurus rex. A fair amount of the time, herbivores can be very aggressive towards carnivores, should they feel threatened.
This has got to be the worst tyrannosaurus ever. Seriously, the only thing that could have made it worse is feathers. I was surprised by how ugly it was even when I watched this as a little kid.
I think the reason for the environmental portrayal in this episode is that there's some evidence to suggest dinosaurs in North America were struggling during the time this episode is set. I don't remember which documentary this was, nor the paleontologist who said it, but there was a statement made in one documentary that if you traveled down the Red Deer River in Alberta Canada, and studied the fossil deposits, you'd notice a drop in the number of species found. I think it was something like 30+ 80Mya and only 12 66mya. I do remember when the statement was made, in the background was the Edmontosaurus munching on leaves scene from When Dinosaurs Roamed America.
How to make Death of a Dynasty accurate: 1. Take place 66 mya instead of 65.5 mya. 2. Hell Creek environment having lush forests and swamps rather than being desolate with "islands of greenery". 3. Have the fauna scientifically accurate. 4. Creatures will be replaced (Torosaurus replaced by Triceratops prorsus, Dinlysia, the snake should be Cerberophis and Dromaeosaurus replaced by Acheroraptor or Dakotaraptor) 5. Change name Anatotitan to Edmontosaurus.
Exactly, that's what this series strive towards, telling us a story, but also giving us a view from the perspective of the Dinosaurs. It's called storytelling, something a lot of people can't seem to understand. it's the reason why this series and basically the entire Trilogy of Life is so iconic and have yet to be surpassed, not even the latest Prehistoric Planet series could deliver this type of Narrative.
If I made this episode, I'd change up some things and have somethings mentioned as well, though somethings not mentioned will stay the same 1. Hell Creek would more or less resemble the Florida Everglades 2. Tyrannosaurus would be less like how it was in the program, and more accurate 3. I'd have this dialogue the Dromaeosaurus "Dromaeosaurid fossils have been found at the Hell Creek Formation, with some scientists believing it to be that of Dromaeosaurus itself" 4. I'd feature Triceratops over Torosaurus, and have a small herd of Triceratops take care of their young will a nearby colony of Stygimoloch challenge one another for the right to mate, with the loser falling prey to a pair of Dromaeosaurus 5. I'd have a flock of Ornithomimus feeding off of vegetation before the herd of Edmontosaurus, at the time called Anatotitan, disturbed them before they head to the nearby swamp, with a Borealosuchus snatching an unlucky Ornithomimus before the female Tyrannosaurus attacks and kills an Anatotitan, and after she collects some food, a more accurate Quetzalcoatlus would scavenge the remains 6. The Ankylosaurus would have a more accurate head 7. The extinction of the dinosaurs would more or less resemble the one we saw in the first episode of Prehistoric Park, but when the cloud of smoke reaches the deceased mother Tyrannosaurus and her offspring, it would cut to black with the narrator saying "Unlike the lucky mammals that survived the mass extinction event, all non-avian dinosaurs died out, but because of their extinction, we mammals evolved" with footage of modern day animals shown to present how mammals now dominate the earth, with birds being mentioned to be what remains of dinosaurs

Ironically, this is almost EXACTLY what the final segment of "When Dinosaurs roamed America" both in terms of tone and filming location
Unfortunately Torosaurus did not see the KT Extinction, so they probably should've gone with Triceratops as the main Ceratopsian lol
