  • 4方向に移動しながら打ち込みをすることで、それぞれどちらの足が軸足になるのかを学びます。
Judo has forward rotation and backward rotation.
You should learn which feet will be shaft foot.
I am going to introduce 4 directions Uchikomi using front and back body rotation.
Judo has front and back rotation -) In Judo, many throws are executed by front pivot (Mae Mawari Sabaki), or back pivot (Ushiro Mawari Sabaki) .
0:23 It is important to be aware of which side of your foot to rotate in the move of various directions. I am going to introduce a drill to summarize which foot becomes the axis of rotation while executing Uchikomi in 4 directions.
0:54 I begin with Seoi Nage and demonstrate moves in a left-handed stance (you need to do the opposite if you are right-handed).
1:02 Setp toward right (toward your Hikite, pulling hand), then enter into Seoi Nage by a front pivot. In this move, as you move right, pivot on your right foot (taped blue), which becomes the axis of the rotation.
    1:13
Now, you pull Uke (your partner) and step backward. As you pull back, rotate your body while rotating your right foot clockwise, and pivot on your right foot to bring your left foot in line with your right foot.
    1:24
Next, I demonstrate back pivot entry. Step towards left (toward Tsurite, lifting hand), and pivot on your left foot (taped red). In this move you swing around your left foot in a half-circle.
1:29 Now push forward. As you push forward, again you pivot on your left foot, and rotate your body.
1:35 You do the same move smoothly.
You can use the same concept for Osoto gari, and Uchi mata.
2:39 Even if you are a black belt judo player, you may not be fully aware if you are using front pivot or back pivot when entering your throw in various directions of movement.
You should learn which axis foot to rotate -)
I think this is a good way to understand which foot you pivot with.
I recommend using color tape for kids to understand easier.

Man, the kid looked so miserable... He's like "I don't want to be here, I am tired of being the uke". :) Still, great lesson, thank you very much!
