200k mile cambelt change complete. This is the second time I did this cambelt on my 07 GTi and I found this video much better than the scraps of information I could get 5 years ago. Thanks! What I will say is mistakes of the past did come back to haunt me. I over torqued my top idler and the thread fell out. I also used a defective bolt with a poor thread. So this year was spent reading furious internet debate about timesert Vs keensert Vs helicoil. I opted for helicoil as access was limited and I wanted to remove as little metal as possible for the new insert. Fingers crossed it holds for this application.
Amazing video thank you. Heads up if anyone is doing this on an audi A3, the charge pipe is on the bottom and should still be removed. When taking the engine/gearbox mount out, take the lower timing cover off FIRST or it will not come out no matter what. When putting it back in, put the mount in FIRST, then slide the lower cover up from underneath; or else again, it will not go in. Other than that I was able to do this over the span of a weekend.
Damn this was a lot simpler than I thought it would be omg. I was scared to do this until watching this. And I’ve done timing on Hondas plenty of times, this looks very straight forward and simple. Good job on Volkswagen, and good job on you for demonstrating
Yea seems kind of straightforward compared to the timing chain. In the official manual it looks simple too but I had to drill the dreaded bolt of hell out since it stripped. I had to take apart the Adjuster and clean it so any metal shavings won't destroy it from within. Unfortunately there's a broken plastic washer where it holds down a spring inside the Adjuster. Same issue on the junkyard one I bought. I don't know what to do anymore as this washer is probably not sold as a part anywhere.
This will/has saved me money, man! THANKS for your well illustrated demonstration of what I thought was going to be a challenge. Ya'll shop mechanics better watch out - tutorials such as this will most likely decrease your work load and pay earnings due to self made repairs being performed.
@@markkwong9512 Man you can do it - I watch and used it step by step and took about 5 hours (going slow to do it right the first time). This was my first ever timing belt change to. With all the right tools it was fun. Only problem was two little screws on the cover for the belt. Pain to access. TOTALLY (and I mean TOTALLY) worth saving $1500 of your hard earned $. Buy the real deal kit though. At least try it, if it fails tow to a mechanic.
Good one! On my BWA early 2008 mk5 gti I had no looking hole for the rear bolt of the engine mount :( but apart from that: video helped me big time! thanks!
Does the charge pipe clip orientation affect how well the hose is clamped? Because I noticed you put it with a different orientation 42:10 compared to when the retainer clips were removed 7:35 .
This was an absolutely awesome video. I love the attention to detail and explanation you used. You really made this look easy enough for anybody to do. You gained a new viewer today ! Please keep making videos like this.
The pipe next to the timing belt cover on my GTI (2006 JAPAN spec) is made of steel and cannot be moved as shown in the video (13 min 24 sec). Could you please tell me how to remove this pipe or how to remove the timing belt cover? The cover is one piece type. My best regards
Man, I got about 2lbs on the timing belt tensioner before the threads ripped right off the nut fucking up the stud threads. Also recived 1 different tensioner in my kit and only one of the idler pulleys (not the kit used in the video) . Nothing goes smooth ever and thats fine.
Not only poor quality water pump. Maybe due to long service life the axle seal from impeller to pulley starts to leak and it weeps out from that hole. If you see any coolant coming out of that hole, be sure to change the water pump.
Please do a video on the cam cradle reseal with the green sealant nobody has made a video on it it’s always videos on the valve cover and never the cradle that holds the cams in place but mine is leaking bad I need a tutorial otherwise my vw dealer wants $600 for the job
May I pick your brain please FCP Euro? I have a 2015 BMW X5 X Drive 35i, twin turbo Inline 6 cyl. 3.0 AWD, I'm trying to help my mechanic out by asking other professionals such as yourselves. About 3 weeks ago I was driving when a message on my dash came over that said "Engine running to hot, Drive moderately" turns out it was a few things wrong with it. I had him replace the coolant pump, and thermostat. But its still running hot. The mechanic noticed that the coolant fan isn't turning on at idle. He can turn it on with his computer, and it will run with the AC on but at idle it wont come on by itself. He thought it was a censor, he replaced it. He thinks it a electrical problem somewhere. Can you guys please give me an idea where I can tell him to look? I've asked elsewhere but all I get is trolls saying "That's what I get for buying a BMW." etc. I got the vehicle for my job as I am self employed and I have been out of work for 3 weeks now. I really need help here please. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.
Go ahead and say go ahead some more where it is totally not needed to say go ahead! lol Americans just love to go ahead and say as many words as possible to go ahead and say fek all! Very good video though so go ahead and ignore me!
Chains don't last forever most should be done around 130k miles because of chain stretch.. also changing chains is even more ridiculous. This is fairly easy to do imo.

Bro...THANK YOU MY GOOD PERSON. Just completed the job today, FLAWLESS.
Lets go!!! Nice work My Good Peoples.
Did you replace the tensioner and what was your mileage you replaced it at?
One of the best instructional videos on youtube.
So knowledgeable and you can tell this guy really cares.

Brilliant tutorial but now you gotta do the cam chain and tensioner 😊
I would love to see that video next!!

You deserve a bonus dude! Great job explaining every single step.
This video was outstanding. Thank you so much for your step by step process it made a big difference. Great host, and editing. Fun to follow along.
Nice video... Mike's on top of things as always. Good presentation.
Head gasket replacement video would be very much appreciated working on replacing one shortly
Thank you for the video! Very helpful! I'm shocked you said this could be done in 4 hours. It took me 10 hours!
Great video. Best out there. It’s great he mentioned each torque spec.

Outstanding instructional video. Mike is a great instructor 🎉
Why didn't the cam mark align as it did before ? Looks 1 tooth out to me.
Perfect timing fcp. Installing this exact kit the day after this vid posted👍🏼
Lol started it last weekend and was watching this video yesterday thinking to myself “why didn’t I use this video?” Not even realizing it’s so fresh.
Great video, just did my cambelt following this excellent step by step guide, awesome!
Excellent video, very technical, helpful and detailed. Thank you! Do you have one about how to remove the head of that same engine??
Hey Jgarcia! Thank you for watching, that is not something we are currently covering or have available, sorry for that!
What a good people these people are 😁
I cant help but notice the belt wasn’t completely straight when rotating it 😮 30:34
I saw that too

does this engine have a normal oil consumption or not ? thanks
How many hours does this job call for and what is your estimate, 2008 vw passat 2.0t bpy
The kit includes to seals - camshaft and crankshaft....the video does not show these being changed. And DYI for this available?
Great detailed video. How about doing a Mk5 with chains (tsi/ccta) .
Best how to video ever created!
Would love to see a timing belt replacement on a 2015 VW Golf TDI.... would also like to see more TDIs service videos....
Consider taking a hike 🤣
excellent video just got mine done...with FCP Euro parts
Can you make a video on doing the timing chain too?
Thank you for the step by step instructions.
You’re welcome!
Could you guys do a front upper and lower control arm replacement video on a Porsche panorama

all top engine mount bolts need additional +90 deg right?

Excellent video very good mechanic
is it the exact same thing on a edition 30?
Bro is a pro 🔥🫡
How much is that repair in a normal garage?
I like you even show what tools you need
I need a timing chain version of this video!
Can you guys do a mkv gti clutch next please
Amazing video guys thank you so much!
this video is so excellent i decided to subscribe to your channel. great job.👍👍
How many hours labor????
How come I just looked at a 2008 GTi but it has a TSI motor? I believe this motor is an FSI
Phase do more for the mk5 GTI FSI BPY
Yas!
I took the 2 bolts out of the dog one mount and now after finishing, the engine holes do not align. How can I fix this?
Rock the engine until they align and hold in place until you get one bolt started.
Why didn't use the angular torque after the first portion? The ones with 20, 40 and 60nm had a plus 90 degrees after.
Probably because most people don’t have them.
@@hardcore4476 I just did yesterday using the bolt reference. Basically ./''''*''''\ rotate the dot to the *.
@@Lemos_TTs are usually make a line like he did in the video and turn it 90°.

What would cause a new water pump to fail and leak out of the weep hole?
Poor quality water pump...
Not only poor quality water pump. Maybe due to long service life the axle seal from impeller to pulley starts to leak and it weeps out from that hole. If you see any coolant coming out of that hole, be sure to change the water pump.
@@Antto He said a "new" water pump, hence the long service life is not the probable cause.
@@johnnyblue4799 I stand corrected. Apparently I cannot read. Sorry about that.

Glad you liked it!
Seems like if you are going to cover this should mention the fuel pump follower.
Does anyone know the easiest way to siphon old fuel out of this same make and model? MK5 GTI 2.0 FSI? TIA! 🙏🏻🤙🏻
So since nobody answered I did it from under the rear seat and used siphon pump from HF.
Very nice video.
Mk6 next 😅
Well done
Didn't show how to set the cam belt tensioner correctly
Important information would be labor time
