    Very informative talk from you guys. I always wondered what that battlefield looked like. My maternal g-g-grandfather was shot through the right leg at this battle, didn't lose it though, and survived the war. He's buried in the G.A.R. section in the cemetery in Streator, IL. Pvt. Thomas Wonders.

    I grew up on that battlefield. It used to be my jogging path, but I haven't been back there in years. Looks like someone has done a lovely job re-siding Henry House. I go so far back, 234 was a 2 lane road from Stone House to Manassas, nothing but woods and fields, a few scattered homes, not a stop light in sight. I really hate to see what it has become. I also remember it didn't cost a cent to get in the museum. How things change. PS . Worst general of the war? Ledley. Hands down.

      I remember going sledding on the hill behind and off to the side of the stone house at the intersection of 29 and 234 back in the 70s. .. Now there is a fence at the bottom of that hill, blocking any such endeavors.🙁

      @@bonanzatime I'm a little before your time. I was there in the 50's and early 60's. My friend Gantos lived in a house on the top of that hill.

    Trick question from Mr. Petersen in 5th hour history class in 1977; Which came first...First Bull Run, or First Manassas? I remember feeling pretty dumb at the time when he revealed the answer. But what it DID do was spark an interest in history that I enjoy to this day, over 40 yrs later. I wonder if he knows the impact he’s had on my life. Thanks Mr. Petersen..wherever you are. 😊

    So I'm watching a documentary and it said during the 2nd bullrun battle the confederates had dug In next to an abandoned railroad now I can't find that on the map because obviously it's not there anymore but where exactly was that does anyone know

    Informative - thanks. Unfortunately Mr. Ullman appears to have graduated from the Garry Adelman school of flailing, spazzing, jumping, swinging presentation style. You guys need to learn how to present information without doing this crazed histrionic spazzing out. It's very distracting and just looks unprofessional. Adelman always does it but young Mr Ullman...stop while you still can. Good information - however was disappointing the monument right next to the house nor the Stonewall monument were shown. A look down the hill to the Stone House would have been good too because it would have provided a bit of perspective and scale of the heights involved.

    Did the Marine Corps have any effect on The Battle?

    • @celston51
      @celston51 4 роки тому +1

      Did they play a significant role? No. A single battalion of USMC went with Porter's Brigade to cover the artillery. They were overrun by the 33rd Virginia Infantry during the fighting around Henry Hill and forced to retreat along with most of the Union army. A full account of their activities could be found here.
