It's true. There may be lighter bikes, faster bikes, even prettier bikes, but there is something about the 'ol ZX that makes you want to hold onto it forever. I think it's the era that the bike comes from. I guess for me it's a bit of nostalgia.
Congratulations man. I am Brazilian and I have a '96 ZX7R. I was impressed and happy to see that we have competitive bike, even in the face of modern bikes. Congratulations for the video.
Thanks man. I've got 2 of them. The one in this vid is a '98 that I use mainly for the track. My other one is a Green '02 with the checkered flag scheme and it's still pretty clean. I love them. In the past I've owned a Busa, GSXR1000, 999, 748, and still have a MV F41000S ('05) but in all honesty it was the ZX7R that made me a better rider.
Love the ZX7R's, I've got an '03. These were the bikes that made me love road racing. You referred to nostalgia in an earlier comment and I completely get that. I'm the oddball in my group, my ZX against my brother and brother-in- law's '00 and '01 Honda RC51's. Love it!
Good stuff! The ZX7R and even the RC51 have loyal followings. I have a '98 (the one in this video) and an '02 that I use to commute to work. One of these days if I can afford it I'd like to pick up a 93-95 body style or possibly a '90 with the hoover tubes.
I just watched this again! I can't get enough of that 7r's sound! Revving @ 12k! He's giving away probably 50hp and 50lbs and he's keeping on this guy! So so cool!
I think the 7r is one of the best looking bike ever. I will try to buy one soon and its really nice to see that he can compete with all those sportbikes. Good riding.
Iv just bought a zx7r 96 p1 street fighter my son says its sick i think it looks good anyways , iv allways had grand motorbikes , this bike however is addictive i love it and intend to get another later model origional spec , this vid sums up why i love this ledgendry bike
Thanks for the tip. Yeah, I know you can throw a 94-96 motor in there but it's still a heavy motor and most track riders didn't do it because it affected the handling of the bike because it altered the weight distribution. Installing the 9 motor ROCKED back in the day for Drag Racing though!
you just made me proud to be a zx7 owner lol.. this is my second 7 first was a 95 which I built from scratch (check my vidz) and now im on a 99 p model.. these bikes are just simply addictive.. great video bro...
Thanks man! I just finished rebuilding this motor and it is worked to the gills! It's 779cc. You can check the build video on my channel. "ZX779RR build Part 1" When it's done, it should have in the ballpark of 130rwhp. I'm tuning the FCR carbs now and should be done soon.
Nice riding T, no point riding a track with a long straight imo, We have these things called highways if you want to do that and most of them are free. Nice technique staying with the omnipotent S1RR. Even on tracks wirth a long straight 600s are still in the running for lap records. But nothing like old school showing what made them great and still great. Thx for sharing.
I still have my 97 ZX7R and love it. Have thought about selling it before but just can't bring myself to do it. My friend had the same bike but a 2000 I believe, sold it and wishes he never did.
Awesome riding on the ZX 7 buddy! I have the S1000rr and for the 750 to keep up and even pass the BMW is a great effort. Even if it's a short track it still rates, both of you are good and safe riders.
Superb riding ! Wow really i didn't think an older model could keep up with a S1000RR. I'm wondering if the valve adjustment need to be done, or if these engines are bit noisy ? thanks you for this vid ;) cheers !
Yeah Kawasakis are known for valve tap. Tappy valves are happy valves. hahahaha Older bikes do just fine when the riders are skilled. Also, it all depends on the layout of the course and the fitness of the riders.
It's a sealant patch or something. It's not oil. It grips pretty good there. It took me a couple of sessions to get used to looking at it but it didn't bother me after while.
I have impression that you could pass him anytime. Watch you let the throttle when you come near BMW (maybe I wrong but it looks like to me). On the straight we can see the difference. How your stock engine keep up with no rev limiter?
I played with the gearing a bit so that it accelerates faster. It's also got lightweight magnesium rims which helps the bike spin up faster, brake harder, and flick from side to side faster.
nice video dude, I can see you have put in some money into it to make it shine even more on the race track. Makes me wonder though did you had to shell out that much money for Penske shock and fork Ohlins internals? Something tells me you would get the same results with the stock shock rebuilded with RaceTech components and same for the forks rebuilded with Racetech components. The stock zx7 shock comes with 3 way adjustment correct? Wanting to start riding on the streets and race track, thinking of picking up the 04 zx10r for the streets and a nice zx7r for the track. Change up the gearing like on urs, probably rebuild the forks and shock with race tech components, I care less for exaust and air filter, and get my self nice fairings for the track but also ride the old cow once in a blue moon on the street :) I love Jenings, use to take my 04 zx10R there before I sold it and gave up riding due to economy crisis, now things are much better and I can afford 2 but used ones at nicer price and im sure ill find them, just have to shop good for them. LOL at Jennings dude, it never fails to rip the left side of the tire 30-40% more then the right haha!!!
Thanks. The Ohlins kit I got on sale which is why I put that in the forks. It was the same price as the RaceTech kit. The stock shock is not a triple adjustable. It's just a basic shock and it's very limited in it's range of adjustment. However, I am considering having the shock rebuilt on my '02 ZX7R that I use mainly for the street. This past year I rebuilt this bike and went into the motor. If you go to my channel look for a vid called "ZX779RR Build Part 1". I'm just about to finish it now and hope to get back to Jennings this winter.
That's pretty cool. Try raising the rear of the bike. If your rear shock is not ride-height adjustable, try adding spacers somewhere above the shock to raise the rear of the bike. It's sitting low and that's why it's probably not handling the way you want it to. Not too much though. Maybe 1/2 an inch and take it from there. Nice Bike!
I hear ya. The engine wasn't cold (it was running prior. I may have turned it off to put fuel in the bike) and we weren't actually racing. It was just a track day and nothing competitive really. Just having fun out there.
@rottepung666 Watch the whole vid. I hit 135mph (indicated) on the back section at one point. It was very windy out there and that really killed my speed. My speedometer is taken off of the front wheel and not the countershaft sprocket as on most bikes so my speedo is actually more accurate than usual.
Nice riding bro, I never saw he purpose on having a 1000 unless you are pro wsbk. The 600/750 can keep up with the best of them as long as you don't have too many long straight sections.
i beleave you i put a 1100 gsxr engine in a bandit 600 frame and it fucked up the handling now im trying to solve the suspension problems.......... i need a new usd fork......... heres a video
This combination is called a gsxr750 lol. But the ZX7 is waaaay nicer to look at compared to all years gsxr. I have a srad 750 and would take the performance hit in a heartbeat for a clean zx7 of any year.
@clubbyvxr8 Thanks man. Truth be told, towards the end of the session I got pretty tired from muscling the big ZX around and wasn't sure how much more I could take. hahahahahahhahaha
The motor is stock. When I bought it, it wasn't even running. lol I have 2 ZX-7Rs. The one in this video is street legal but I use it primarily on the track.
Yeah it's not a fast vid. The day before this vid was taken someone was killed so we were all just taking it real easy trying to shake the jitters. My fastest time at Jennings is 1:24-1:25 which is pretty respectable I think for a 15 year old bike.
In his defence, we had 2+ days on our tires and it was very very windy that day. If you look close enough you can see his back wheel kicking out a couple of times coming out of that hard left-hander after the back straight. I had an easier time managing 115hp vs his 180hp. lol But I'll take the props! :D hahaha Thanks!
It's not the bike that wins. It's the rider. The better rider will win. If you guys are around the same skill then you might want to re-gear your bike for better acceleration. -1 on the countershaft sprocket and maybe +1 or +2 on the rear sprocket.
I can live long with a legend ;) It's predictable, reliable, VERY arnest, you can feel the tarmac in your balls (no comfort) but you feel the limits in every turn! Oh I love mine, never to sell!
I've heard lots of stories of how guys who sold their ZX-7Rs end up missing them and wished they never sold them. ......just sayin' Why not just add the RSV1000R to the stable?
DO NOT SELL YOUR ZX7 you will regret it im buying one now you will have nothing to abuse yourself over , its an iconic bike and right now increasing in value and can out perform many bikes of today OH HAIL BEFOR THE MIGHTY ZX7R FOR WE ARE NOT WORTHY AND WITHER INTO INSIGNIFICANCE UPON GAZING AT YOUR MAJESTY shit i gotta get a life !!
and it seems like you had plenty of it. not trying to be a smartass, just noticing that the needle was on cold. just wanting your bike to last longer. it only had 13k something miles on it.
@RX7DVL Sadly, my friend I think the stupid comment is yours. I never said speeding on highways I just said riding in a straight line on highways. You jumped to the conclusion that I am all for speeding on the open roads, being unsafe, and riding illegally. Not true, and I certainly never said any of that. My point was, as someone who loves trackdays, that I don't attend trackdays to ride down a long straight but for the corners. Relax. No arguement here re safe riding.
It's true. There may be lighter bikes, faster bikes, even prettier bikes, but there is something about the 'ol ZX that makes you want to hold onto it forever. I think it's the era that the bike comes from. I guess for me it's a bit of nostalgia.
Just found this . As a CBR 918 owner, 1998 model, this is highly appreciated. Old school can still rule!
Congratulations man. I am Brazilian and I have a '96 ZX7R. I was impressed and happy to see that we have competitive bike, even in the face of modern bikes. Congratulations for the video.

I think the 7r is one of the best looking bike ever. I will try to buy one soon and its really nice to see that he can compete with all those sportbikes.
Good riding.
He bro! Welcome back! ...and I agree with you wholeheartedly! Hands down, one of the best bikes ever made. ...and she can still run with the horses.
Iv just bought a zx7r 96 p1 street fighter my son says its sick i think it looks good anyways , iv allways had grand motorbikes , this bike however is addictive i love it and intend to get another later model origional spec , this vid sums up why i love this ledgendry bike
The ZX-7R has always been one of my all time favorite rides. I've owned many bikes but still prefer the 7R. Nice video.
My first bike was a 95’ Ninja ZX7R! Currently own 01’ Ninja ZX9R! Love it! You don’t see bikes like these on roads much!
Thanks for the tip. Yeah, I know you can throw a 94-96 motor in there but it's still a heavy motor and most track riders didn't do it because it affected the handling of the bike because it altered the weight distribution. Installing the 9 motor ROCKED back in the day for Drag Racing though!

Agread this bike is addictive i too have 2 of them one is streetfightered and in use it for work ,

AWSOME video...caught myself a couple times cheering on the 7...TAKE HIM TURBO, TAKE HIM!! lol Nice work man!! Love my '94 zx7!!
whatson the inside part of turn 8? looks like oil.. has me a little freaked out everytime you go over it! good riding!
I see. cool deal man. what track is this? looks perfect for my 919. aka no huge straights to get overtaken on! lol
Zx7r is a legend!! Top 5 sportbikes ever built!
I still have my 97 ZX7R and love it. Have thought about selling it before but just can't bring myself to do it. My friend had the same bike but a 2000 I believe, sold it and wishes he never did.
Gotta love the legend of the 7R! My favorite bike I've owned 01 zx7rr!
Awesome riding on the ZX 7 buddy! I have the S1000rr and for the 750 to keep up and even pass the BMW is a great effort. Even if it's a short track it still rates, both of you are good and safe riders.
How come you keep up with the new bmw? the 7r stock engine is not up to the task. have you done anything to it?
By chance are you on the zxforums???
where is this track at looks so fun?
zx7rs a superb. i have a p3 with high bars, a p6 and a p4 almost original, being delivered tomorrow. oh heaven. great video. where is it? uk.
This was at Jennings GP located in Florida USA.
Superb riding ! Wow really i didn't think an older model could keep up with a S1000RR. I'm wondering if the valve adjustment need to be done, or if these engines are bit noisy ? thanks you for this vid ;) cheers !

damn, that's smart, rev'ing the engine directly after startup and starting the race with a cold engine.
Glory days for those snarling monsters. I have a 2000 ZX-9R and it just plain rips....
do you know that you can put a early Kawasaki Zx 9 engine in there?
I cannot fight against my heart. I had lot of bike lots of bike but the ZX-7R will be my next. Hey nice riding man.
Yeah, I've got 2 ZX-7Rs. I love 'em! You shouldn't have too much difficulty finding one for sale. There out there. Just gotta look.
loveley vid!!
Thanks man. I'm glad you liked it.
just got a 1998 ZX7R, its my first street bike. i really like it.
Congrats! I hope you're enjoying it.

what mods on the zx7?
Awesome riding!!!!! Awesome passes!!

I seriously wish kawasaki would bring the zx7r back. great video^^
ZX7s are a good bike but ill prolly be selling mine soon, looking to pick up an Aprilia RSV1000R (maybe a factory depending on my findings).
That's JenningsGP located in Northern Florida near Jacksonville.
That's pretty cool. Try raising the rear of the bike. If your rear shock is not ride-height adjustable, try adding spacers somewhere above the shock to raise the rear of the bike. I'm on a 94 zx9r :o with 17k. Is there a 1 in front of that 3? lol.. either way I love itttt

Jennings GP located in Florida, USA.

+randykawasaki Jennings GP Florida USA
I'm running a 15x46 in this vid plus with the lighter wheels the bike has nice pep out of the corners.
einfach nur geil...
Vielen Dank
!!!! respect !!!
Thanks.
@rottepung666
Ok. Thanks for watching.
Yes sir. Same Turbo329. ; )
If the ZX7R had only 10-15 more horsepower and shed a few lbs it could run with anything.
This combination is called a gsxr750 lol. But the ZX7 is waaaay nicer to look at compared to all years gsxr. I have a srad 750 and would take the performance hit in a heartbeat for a clean zx7 of any year.
Need better rider
when i bought my zx7r, the guy i bought it off of almost broke down and started crying.. i got really lucky with mine very clean bike and i love it
Haha, love the music.
No, its shit and not even music.
Keep taking your drugs.....
@clubbyvxr8 Thanks man. Truth be told, towards the end of the session I got pretty tired from muscling the big ZX around and wasn't sure how much more I could take. hahahahahahhahaha
@afpassos I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. The ZX-7R still has some fight left! : )
The motor is stock. When I bought it, it wasn't even running. lol I have 2 ZX-7Rs. The one in this video is street legal but I use it primarily on the track.
awesome vid, zx7's become family member's!

nice ride!
That GRIP on zx7 will answer the BMW in a good way
Yeah the ZX7R hooks up good.
Yeah it's not a fast vid. The day before this vid was taken someone was killed so we were all just taking it real easy trying to shake the jitters. My fastest time at Jennings is 1:24-1:25 which is pretty respectable I think for a 15 year old bike.

I love my gen1 zx10r its an animal but my 01 zx7r was my favorite bike!

now
and realaziezed its a 98er
It's not the bike that wins. It's the rider. The better rider will win. If you guys are around the same skill then you might want to re-gear your bike for better acceleration. -1 on the countershaft sprocket and maybe +1 or +2 on the rear sprocket.

Thanks. I will always hold onto both of my ZX7Rs
This is Jennings GP, located in Jasper Florida, USA

zx7r may fav bike I had sold my 2009 zx6r and I think Im gona get zx7r again and swap zx9 engine :D
DO NOT SELL YOUR ZX7 you will regret it im buying one now you will have nothing to abuse yourself over , its an iconic bike and right now increasing in value and can out perform many bikes of today OH HAIL BEFOR THE MIGHTY ZX7R FOR WE ARE NOT WORTHY AND WITHER INTO INSIGNIFICANCE UPON GAZING AT YOUR MAJESTY
shit i gotta get a life !!
Its a vest he is wearing over his leathers, you cant ride on track without leathers.
Wow! 10,000 hits! Thanks guys!
I guess the guy in the red has never seen someone after they hit the ground in a tshirt
It looks like your toying with the BMW
esse dia eu taquei a posiçao egípcia em ação tadinha da s1000 rr hahahah
and it seems like you had plenty of it. not trying to be a smartass, just noticing that the needle was on cold. just wanting your bike to last longer. it only had 13k something miles on it.
106/1? yeah ill keep watching
12,000rpm gets addictive really fast. lol
immagine if it had a Zx 9 engine installed ;)
I want my life back
jYm7ThyYqr0 thats what i built and the handling is bad now i need to put new forks on it
Don't Sell It!!!! : )
Thought that name was familiar, i bought tires from you(scottie.harris)
