    It's true. There may be lighter bikes, faster bikes, even prettier bikes, but there is something about the 'ol ZX that makes you want to hold onto it forever. I think it's the era that the bike comes from. I guess for me it's a bit of nostalgia.

  • @Turbo329
    @Turbo329  11 років тому +3

    Thanks man. I've got 2 of them. The one in this vid is a '98 that I use mainly for the track. My other one is a Green '02 with the checkered flag scheme and it's still pretty clean. I love them. In the past I've owned a Busa, GSXR1000, 999, 748, and still have a MV F41000S ('05) but in all honesty it was the ZX7R that made me a better rider.

    Just found this . As a CBR 918 owner, 1998 model, this is highly appreciated. Old school can still rule!

    Congratulations man. I am Brazilian and I have a '96 ZX7R. I was impressed and happy to see that we have competitive bike, even in the face of modern bikes. Congratulations for the video.

  • @Turbo329
    @Turbo329  11 років тому +1

    Thanks for the tip. Yeah, I know you can throw a 94-96 motor in there but it's still a heavy motor and most track riders didn't do it because it affected the handling of the bike because it altered the weight distribution. Installing the 9 motor ROCKED back in the day for Drag Racing though!

    I think the 7r is one of the best looking bike ever. I will try to buy one soon and its really nice to see that he can compete with all those sportbikes.
    Good riding.

    Love the ZX7R's, I've got an '03. These were the bikes that made me love road racing. You referred to nostalgia in an earlier comment and I completely get that. I'm the oddball in my group, my ZX against my brother and brother-in- law's '00 and '01 Honda RC51's. Love it!

    • @Turbo329
      @Turbo329  10 років тому

      Good stuff! The ZX7R and even the RC51 have loyal followings. I have a '98 (the one in this video) and an '02 that I use to commute to work. One of these days if I can afford it I'd like to pick up a 93-95 body style or possibly a '90 with the hoover tubes.

    you just made me proud to be a zx7 owner lol.. this is my second 7 first was a 95 which I built from scratch (check my vidz) and now im on a 99 p model.. these bikes are just simply addictive.. great video bro...

      Thanks man! I just finished rebuilding this motor and it is worked to the gills! It's 779cc. You can check the build video on my channel. "ZX779RR build Part 1" When it's done, it should have in the ballpark of 130rwhp. I'm tuning the FCR carbs now and should be done soon.

    Nice riding T, no point riding a track with a long straight imo, We have these things called highways if you want to do that and most of them are free. Nice technique staying with the omnipotent S1RR. Even on tracks wirth a long straight 600s are still in the running for lap records. But nothing like old school showing what made them great and still great. Thx for sharing.

    It's a sealant patch or something. It's not oil. It grips pretty good there. It took me a couple of sessions to get used to looking at it but it didn't bother me after while.

  • @Turbo329
    @Turbo329  12 років тому

    It's not the bike that wins. It's the rider. The better rider will win. If you guys are around the same skill then you might want to re-gear your bike for better acceleration. -1 on the countershaft sprocket and maybe +1 or +2 on the rear sprocket.

  • @seinthomas
    @seinthomas 8 років тому

    Superb riding ! Wow really i didn't think an older model could keep up with a S1000RR. I'm wondering if the valve adjustment need to be done, or if these engines are bit noisy ? thanks you for this vid ;) cheers !

    • @Turbo329
      @Turbo329  6 років тому

      Yeah Kawasakis are known for valve tap. Tappy valves are happy valves. hahahaha Older bikes do just fine when the riders are skilled. Also, it all depends on the layout of the course and the fitness of the riders.

  • @Turbo329
    @Turbo329  11 років тому

    That's pretty cool. Try raising the rear of the bike. If your rear shock is not ride-height adjustable, try adding spacers somewhere above the shock to raise the rear of the bike. It's sitting low and that's why it's probably not handling the way you want it to. Not too much though. Maybe 1/2 an inch and take it from there. Nice Bike!

    nice video dude, I can see you have put in some money into it to make it shine even more on the race track. Makes me wonder though did you had to shell out that much money for Penske shock and fork Ohlins internals? Something tells me you would get the same results with the stock shock rebuilded with RaceTech components and same for the forks rebuilded with Racetech components. The stock zx7 shock comes with 3 way adjustment correct? Wanting to start riding on the streets and race track, thinking of picking up the 04 zx10r for the streets and a nice zx7r for the track. Change up the gearing like on urs, probably rebuild the forks and shock with race tech components, I care less for exaust and air filter, and get my self nice fairings for the track but also ride the old cow once in a blue moon on the street :) I love Jenings, use to take my 04 zx10R there before I sold it and gave up riding due to economy crisis, now things are much better and I can afford 2 but used ones at nicer price and im sure ill find them, just have to shop good for them. LOL at Jennings dude, it never fails to rip the left side of the tire 30-40% more then the right haha!!!

    • @Turbo329
      @Turbo329  9 років тому +1

      Thanks. The Ohlins kit I got on sale which is why I put that in the forks. It was the same price as the RaceTech kit. The stock shock is not a triple adjustable. It's just a basic shock and it's very limited in it's range of adjustment. However, I am considering having the shock rebuilt on my '02 ZX7R that I use mainly for the street. This past year I rebuilt this bike and went into the motor. If you go to my channel look for a vid called "ZX779RR Build Part 1". I'm just about to finish it now and hope to get back to Jennings this winter.

    In his defence, we had 2+ days on our tires and it was very very windy that day. If you look close enough you can see his back wheel kicking out a couple of times coming out of that hard left-hander after the back straight. I had an easier time managing 115hp vs his 180hp. lol But I'll take the props! :D hahaha Thanks!

  • @Frank-DuxVanDamme
    @Frank-DuxVanDamme 10 років тому

    I have impression that you could pass him anytime. Watch you let the throttle when you come near BMW (maybe I wrong but it looks like to me). On the straight we can see the difference. How your stock engine keep up with no rev limiter?

    • @Turbo329
      @Turbo329  10 років тому +1

      I played with the gearing a bit so that it accelerates faster. It's also got lightweight magnesium rims which helps the bike spin up faster, brake harder, and flick from side to side faster.

    @RX7DVL Sadly, my friend I think the stupid comment is yours. I never said speeding on highways I just said riding in a straight line on highways. You jumped to the conclusion that I am all for speeding on the open roads, being unsafe, and riding illegally. Not true, and I certainly never said any of that. My point was, as someone who loves trackdays, that I don't attend trackdays to ride down a long straight but for the corners. Relax. No arguement here re safe riding.
