- Part one of the History of Calligraphy DVD produced in 2003 and update to HD in 2020.
This film was originally produced with English speaking students in mind who were taking an “Introduction to Calligraphy” class. These films provide students or beginners who are learning Calligraphy an overview to the art of the written word.
The western focus was a time issue, the classes were in-person and didn’t allow for playing a long documentary, this is why the program is presented in three segments to allow for in-class discussion.
Its wonderful to see the growing interest in Calligraphy !
I remember (Caligraphy) this as a course. Man. This was a painstaking process.
halos back bby!
This is a masterpiece! Good, neutral and reliable information that go straight to the point! To be honest, that made my day

There's Arabic calligraphy in taj mahel and topkapi palace in turkey .

Part 1 and part 2 both acknowledge the impact of the Chinese and eastern culture on the development of Calligraphy. I’ve considered producing another video that would focus on the Chinese, Arabic, Hebrew and others, focusing on their historic texts and influences. Its wonderful to see the growing interest in Calligraphy!
mimi may I please ask, what is the history of ‘Islamic’ calligraphy?
Especially interesting since the quran was not written down even by mohammad, the word first being IQRA which means Recite…
I’d be interested as to how they ‘developed’ their writing ability
