Nicely put together kit. I would make a couple of suggestions: 1. When you held up the bandana, you said she can also use it for signaling, I would suggest to add a whistle, 2. I would recommend a checklist for her to look at before leaving. In the checklist put in a reminder for prescription medications. I have a 76 y.o. Mother, she has prescription medications. 😊
First of all, much respect for thinking of your mom and preparing her with basic items she would need. A little forethought goes a long way. Great job.
Thoughtfully put together kit....I would consider a few other things; • Diddy/Ditty bag - micro towel, wet wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste, liquid soap, comb, signal mirror, medication like Anti histamine, Immodium, Panadol, Probiotic (... water purification tabs also effect your stomach biome), insect repellent. • Flip Flops • Head sock/buff and ear plug in string (it can be difficult to sleep in distressed conditions - eyes and ear covers can help shut out the chaos) • Emergency whistle • BIC lighters - all orange, remove the child safety, distribute them in different places (1 with the cook set, I with the Diddy bag, 1 in top pouch?) • Laminated contacts card, local map • A change of clothes • Coffee, Tea, Hot chocolate, Electrolight, Sugar satchels....whatever she prefers drinking • Vasoline soaked cotton works great but is very messy....stuff them into short sections of plastic straws heat sealed at both ends...or better still make your own fire plugs (wax infused cotton dental swaps) • Personally if you can afford it I find the light weight folding (accordian style) foam sleep pads are better than the rolled foam • Also check that the silcock key works on the public secure water spigots....In my country they use a multitooth socket style key (you can find it at irrigation supply stores) Sounds like a lot but most are small changes/additions, Just food for thought....
Thank you I just added hearing aid batteries and denture cream for Mom, she needs to add old pair of Rx glasses. Added a cooling towel since it so hot here and elderly overheat easily. Really grateful for sharing your set up. Mom would never be able to handle the sawyer so having the right size water bottle for 1 water purification tablet is very smart. I am going to label them in large print so she can easily read the instructions.
Excellent kit Sir. Lots of good quality items. I would add a small travel hygiene kit with toilet paper, soap, travel toothbrush and toothpaste, etc. Keep up the great work.
One suggestion I would make is to take the plastic tab to lift the lid off the Stanley cook pot and replace it with a key ring. The plastic piece on the lid is known to melt while the pot is heating up. You mom can use a stick to lift the lid off whatever she is cooking or boiling water.
May I suggest a SAM splint and ace wrap since she will be in an urban environment. Also a blister care pack in case her feet give her trouble. Your Mom is a very lucky lady to have you looking out for her.
Nice job mate, looking after mom is a priority for sure, when we're away from them it pulls at the old heart strings wondering if their ok, ya got most short term things covered in that kit, and I'm sure your mom will add those little necessary items that she can't do whithout, lol. I'm 75 next month whith some health issues, so if shtf comes, bugging out for me is a last resort I'm afraid, unless it's a life or death situation. Although I think I could manage the 13lbs ya have there, but not for very far. Thanks for the video, it's given us food for thought, stay safe, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart UK.
Good job, Respect for the elderly (some think I am elderly at 70). My Mom passed a couple years ago, but it gave me more clarity about what I would need to carry. Thanks again! Keep up the good work.
That's a great bag. If I may I would suggest you get some waterproof spray from the camping section and spray the bag to help repell the rain. But again thanks for sharing
This is a great setup. Love it. The way everything has multiple purposes without overloading her is perfect. My dad just passed and him and I were more into survivalist stuff and now I have to leave mom and head back to Texas. I wanted to be sure she had some type of setup that I could throw in a closet and she not even have to be bothered but there if she needs it. I can restock and check it every time I come back home to visit. Thanks so much!!! I hope you put more videos out!
Sorry for your loss! I’m glad this video could help you out. That was my purpose for putting it out, so that more people could learn how to put an emergency bag together that doesn’t weigh too much. Thanks for watching! Revelation 21: 3,4
Nice setup. I wold like to critique two of your systems… 1. I would go with the thermarest accordion style sleep mat. she’s going to have a heck of a time fighting with that roll up mat. I’ve used them in the past and I’ve had to fight with them to keep them flat and prevent rolling up on me. 2. Ditch the Nalgene bottle and life straw and switch to a 1L smart water and a sawyer squeeze or sawyer mini. That will save her several ounces of weight and the filter is way more reliable.
Outstanding bag. Honestly, this is also pretty solid for most kids and teens, anyone with mobility injuries, or just anyone who isnt into preparedness. The only (constructive) criticism i have is that if she is in an urban area (like i am) its entirely possible for water sources to get some form of chemical contamination. So instead of the Life Straw, possibly switch it our for a Survivor Filter, a Hydroblu Sidekick, etc. Their activated charcoal elements will absolutely help with chemical and heavy metal contamination for about the same size and weight.
Thanks for watching. You’re right about chemicals, I thought she wasn’t strong enough to press a Grayl Geopress, but she proved me wrong. I’ll have to send her one.
That package of chlorine dioxide has me questioning my choices. I have my kit with iodine tablets, to be used in conjunction with boiling and sawyer filters, but it looks like those, while a bit more spendy, and taking longer (4 hours vs. 30 minutes treatment and 3 minutes for taste neutralizing), it might be a better option, as it will kill more bad things in the water, and not need a taste neutralizing agent. I would also suggest cracking open and trying out the emergency ration bars. Some versions are less palatable than others. My preference is for the SOS cinnamon flavored ones, but I also haven't tried the multi flavors of Millennium bars. Also, depending on dietary restrictions and/or preferences, those squeeze peanut butter packets have lots of calories for cheap. Skippy has 1009 calories/pouch, and Jif has 2124 calories/pouch. But peanut butter only lasts about 2 years, compared to 5 for the ration bars.
Her and I both! She joked that they’d find an old lady dead on a backpack and the rescuers would wonder what happened since she had everything she needed to survive. I made this video so she could look at it to know how to use it.
Great set up bro, & great son!!! Happy I was just recommended your channel, I'm a prepper, & love & support any channels that know what's up in the world & are preparing for it! A suggestion, I'm sure she wouldn't want bugs everywhere, so get her a mosquito netting, I got 1 for like $20 that cocoons me & 1-2 more people in comfort, can stand up in it as well
Good for you for looking after your mom. And that's a well rounded kit. I still say to add a small tarp, never know when she might have a situation where she could use a little extra cover element, also a 100' hank of paracord. And lastly, that Mora Eldris is a great little crafting knife(I have one), but I suggest getting a SAK Victorinox Huntsman pocket knife/multi-tool to add to the kit. Again because you never know when she might want or need a pair of scissors, a screwdriver, a can or bottle opener, tweezers, toothpick. These 3 items combined will weigh maybe just over 1lb. and could be very helpful if she were to need them. JMHO!!! I shared links for these items. I completely understand your canvas bag is your mom’s choice, however, a lightweight waterproof pack would free up some weight to add some of the other items other people have suggested. Plus, love your mom for telling you what she wants and you being cognizant of her age and not being a “survivalist”. Love it! My mom is the same way - she wants what she wants.
Mom is always right, but you’re right about the lightweight pack. Maybe I can talk her into using the canvas bag around town and get her a ultralight pack to keep the weight under 13 pounds. Thanks for watching
Great kit. One thing or two to consider and add is a hat for the heat or rain, trekking poles for walking or shelter building. Plus maybe a small compact folding umbrella. it's quite useful. This is the basic Go Bag in every vehicle. Not heavy items and very useful. Thanks for sharing.
Nicely done. Some alcohol wipes would be worth considering. In times of emergency, cell phones may be out of order,so a very small am radio might be good for listening to emergency directives.
This is awesome of you to make this for your mother! I am doing the exact same thing for my mum currently! I was thinking of giving it to her for christmas.
I’m so happy to see what you did for your mom. My mom is in GA and I made a similar bag for her as well. One thing that I did for my mom is to put a picture of the family in the bag to keep up morale. Also I added a pair of heavy duty gloves and safety goggles and N95 mask in case of pollutants in the air or to help in case of civil unrest and the use of pepper spray etc. Now it’s not a gas mask but it may help some. Super happy to see what you did for mom. My mom takes medicine so I added a few things to aid her in that situation if comes down to it. 👍🏾🏆Thanks for sharing!!
Awesome kit for most loved ones not into the outdoors. Maybe add a couple bottles of water and a jacket , but you covered the important stuff. Maybe consider a smaller inflatable pad if you want to be more low profile but that is great too. Great job sir.
Awesome emergency bag! I'm going to use this as a basis for my own bag. The only things I would suggest adding is maybe some gloves for handling hot containers or hand protection and some toilet paper or wipes.
Hope you enjoyed your visit to Texas, this is outstanding. Those in the preparedness community understand how great of a gesture this is. Texas weather is no joke, never know when you will need to rely on a kit like this. It covers all the basics and is much better than relying on Fema. As you stated, you can be there within 72 hours so she is covered. 👍
Nice bag, what about one or two pairs of wool socks. They would help keep her feet warmer in the cooler days, as well as give her more cusion as she walks? I use darn tough wool socks and have been extremely impressed with them.
Wonderful kit for under 20 lbs. This video showed up in my feed, and oh my goodness, KUDOS to you for putting this kit together for your mom! Thank you for sharing! (I need to add a large print list of contents AND remember to add my medications) subbed ya, cheers Francisca aka auntifranny
Nice kit you put together for your mom. If I could suggest cpl things pair of gloves , moleskin, couple hand or body warmers, hydration mixes and some paracord .
I was watching your video again, and I thought I would recommend the Sawyer Water Bottle. It's not metal , but the Sawyer mini is contained in the bottle, and it's 32 oz. It takes the guesswork out of how much water you have. Even with the filter removed, it's easy to add water tablets as needed. Just fill up and go. I've included these in my car kit and my teenage boys' backpacks for school. Best Regards.
This is so nice. I really like this idea. I am working on kits for my family and will be making a trip to visit my mom next month, who lives in another state. This is brilliant, I would not have thought of it otherwise.
I’m glad this was informative and beneficial for you, please share this lifesaving information with family, friends and co-workers. Thanks for watching.
Wow I really enjoyed that video I'm not much of an outdoorsman I'm gonna rely on Mrs Carbinsky she built a little cabin on the side of English mountain years ago with out electric power Yes I love the way you conducted this very nice thank you
You could spray that bag with some silicone spray or use bees wax to treat it so it don't get wet and heavy if it gets wet from rain or gets damp from moisture, canvas is nice but it does absorb humidity and maybe some over shoe rain boots would be good and head wear with a scarf.
Didn’t think of waxing because of the military rain poncho she requested that covers her and her gear. I think she already has rain boots. Thanks for watching. Might have to spray the pack next time I’m in Texas.
Very impressive setup for your Mom. You are a good man for looking after your mother and considering her needs. You gave me some good ideas on lightening up my 72-hour bag. With the way things are going in this country, I hope more people take heed and follow your example. Thanks.
Did you put zip ties around the BIC lighters to prevent accidental release of butane? A Victorinox Climber (with scissors) or Huntsman (with wood saw) would be a better choice than the Mora Eldris. It is more versatile, has more tools, and more traditional. A Mora Companion would also be better than the Eldris because it has a larger handle, which is easier to hold, and can also be used for food prep. A compact folding umbrella (in addition to the poncho) would be good because it is easier to deploy, especially for short periods. 2 Dollar Tree plastic toolbox (weighs about 1 ounce, keeps things together and protects them): I use them to hold things under the car seats. 2 Dollar Tree headlamp (high, low, and flash, uses 3 AAA batteries, cheap extra light source) It should also include: 1 pair sun glasses (cheap plastic ones from Harbor Freight are great) 1 book of matches (for redundancy and weighs almost nothing) 1 tealight candle 1 small notebook and pencil 1 compass 1 signalling whistle 1 small basic travel sewing kit 2 N95 dust masks 50' paracord (for tying up or securing anything) 1 roll Gorilla Tape-To-Go (for a quick temporary mend or to secure things, also can be used for fire starter) 1 cell phone charger and cable 1 car cigarette-lighter USB adapter 1 battery bank charger for cell phone 1 small bag of hard candy (for a slow sugar boost) 1 small container of cough drops 2 1-liter bottles of water (because it is quicker and easier than finding and filtering water) 1 crank radio (to listen for emergency announcements or entertainment) 8 plastic grocery bags (for trash, dirty clothes, shoes, carrying things, etc.) plastic zipper bags to contain and protect various items 2 hand towels 1 wash cloth 1 double clip clothes hanger (to hang clothes or cloths for use or to dry) 1 or 2 changes of clothes 1 pair of slip-on shoes (to have extra and be more comfortable) 1 pair shower shoes (to protect feet and prevent picking up foot diseases) a hygiene kit (hair comb/brush, tooth brush, tooth paste, small pack of tissues, tampons (can also be used for fire tinder), small bottle of hand sanitizer (can also be used for cleaning or fire starter), small bar of soap or bottle of liquid soap, deodorant, lip balm stick, tweezers, small scissors, etc.)
@@corleyoutdoors2887 I thought of several more items. Walmart sells cheap ($0.98, or they used to be) kitchen knives that come in a scabbard. Several years ago, Dollar Tree sold a nice knife in a scabbard, but not now. Walmart also sells The Pioneer Woman Pioneer Signature Stainless Steel Paring Knife, 3.5 inch, Teal ($8.44). It was highly regarded in a military/survival video as being a tough knife. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a scabbard, and it only comes in teal. Dollar Tree Scrub Buddies Heavy Duty Long-Cuff Large Reusable Pink Latex Gloves These gloves are good to either keep hands clean when doing dirty tasks or can be kept clean for food prep.
I got my mom's bug-out bag down to 24lbs. She's got to yet try to carry it. She's healthy and is 70 and is a bit overweight but has new knees and The backpack weighs about 5 lbs. I need to try to find her a lightweight backpack. I got my dads down to 28lbs.
Glad you’re looking out for your parents also. This weighs 13 lbs as is. If you add 32 ounces of water it weighs 15 lbs. Thanks for watching the video.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the welcome to the GREAT STATE OF TEXAS!👍 I would estimate this bag at about 300 dollars give or take the price fluctuations on Amazon.
Bro your video brings me back to a song from the Intruders called I'll always Love my Momma. ❤ her a lot. I miss mine so much. But I know she's always with my heart.
This is an excellent video. You have explained each item and potential uses. What is the possibility of getting a gear list by name to assist others in purchasing the same kit?
Thanks for watching. I don’t feel comfortable promoting gear because what works for my mom in Texas may not work for another person’s needs or location. If you cover shelter, water, fire and food, this works no matter the gear or location. My advice is always research your needs and make careful choices on Amazon. All the gear for my mom was purchased on Amazon. I’m not an Amazon affiliate.
I've been prepping since 2008 and this is 2023 are you still prepping I'm going to teach my wife survival skills I have a year-and-a-half of survival food 30-year shelf life mountain House meal
You definitely have a point Jessica and I’ve been trying to talk her into moving here. Fortunately she’s in good shape and surrounded by my cousins, uncles and aunts who also live in Dallas. You’re right though. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video. As a new EDC'er I had a question regarding the purification tablets. If the water is filtered through the bandana and purified with the tablet but still murky and brown, is it safe to drink? Or should you still go life straw
You want the water to be relatively clear by straining it through the bandana for the tablets to be effective. If you strain the water through the bandanna properly you want have to use the lifestraw. Even if you’re boiling water you want to pre- filter it so that there’s no debris in it before you boil. Boiling is #1 and the safest. I gave her the other 2 methods to cover her if she couldn’t boil. All 3 methods can be used separately depending on your water source. Running water is always your best bet, springs, creeks and rivers. The lifestraw would be my last choice in a urban environment because it doesn’t kill viruses, but if systems we depend on crash, something is better than nothing. If you’re looking for a filter that kills viruses, research the Grayl Geopress.
That's a great setup for your mother! Good to see a man who honors his mother. Great job, bro!
👍Always! Thanks for watching. We only get one Mom.
Nicely put together kit. I would make a couple of suggestions: 1. When you held up the bandana, you said she can also use it for signaling, I would suggest to add a whistle, 2. Great video! I was thinking that perhaps pepper spray would be a safe add for added personal protection.
Pepper spray would be excellent
First of all, much respect for thinking of your mom and preparing her with basic items she would need. A little forethought goes a long way. Great job.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the commendation.
I think 13 pounds is considered ultralight by the thru-hiking community. Forgot to add 2 pounds for water, my bad.
Thoughtfully put together kit....I would consider a few other things;
• Diddy/Ditty bag - micro towel, wet wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste, liquid soap, comb, signal mirror, medication like Anti histamine, Immodium, Panadol, Probiotic (... water purification tabs also effect your stomach biome), insect repellent.
• Flip Flops
• Head sock/buff and ear plug in string (it can be difficult to sleep in distressed conditions - eyes and ear covers can help shut out the chaos)
• Emergency whistle
• BIC lighters - all orange, remove the child safety, distribute them in different places (1 with the cook set, I with the Diddy bag, 1 in top pouch?)
• Laminated contacts card, local map
• A change of clothes
• Coffee, Tea, Hot chocolate, Electrolight, Sugar satchels....whatever she prefers drinking
• Vasoline soaked cotton works great but is very messy....stuff them into short sections of plastic straws heat sealed at both ends...or better still make your own fire plugs (wax infused cotton dental swaps)
• Personally if you can afford it I find the light weight folding (accordian style) foam sleep pads are better than the rolled foam
• Also check that the silcock key works on the public secure water spigots....In my country they use a multitooth socket style key (you can find it at irrigation supply stores)
Sounds like a lot but most are small changes/additions, Just food for thought....
Good job, King got a bag for his moms 👍👍

Also I added a pair of heavy duty gloves and safety goggles and N95 mask in case of pollutants in the air or to help in case of civil unrest and the use of pepper spray etc. Now it’s not a gas mask but it may help some. Super happy to see what you did for mom. My mom takes medicine so I added a few things to aid her in that situation if comes down to it. 👍🏾🏆Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching. I appreciate the suggestions in your comment about a picture, gloves, goggles, N95 mask and pepper spray.
Awesome kit for most loved ones not into the outdoors. Maybe add a couple bottles of water and a jacket , but you covered the important stuff. Maybe consider a smaller inflatable pad if you want to be more low profile but that is great too. Great job sir.
Thanks for watching.
Nice that you did that for your mom! Looks like a nice, easy to use, kit.
Thanks for stopping by
Awesome emergency bag! I'm going to use this as a basis for my own bag. The only things I would suggest adding is maybe some gloves for handling hot containers or hand protection and some toilet paper or wipes.
Thanks for watching. I realized I left the gloves on my dresser back in Georgia. I have a bag of portawipes I can give her.
Honestly, this is probably the best video I have watched within the survival community in years!!! Keep p up the great videos, I've subscribed ❤
Thanks for the commendation and thanks for subscribing.
Very well done sir. This is one of the more logical well thought out videos of his type out there. Thank you so much.
Thank you for watching.
Looks like momma has one awesome set up. Super impressed.
Thanks for watching. I’ll be in Dallas until Sunday, and then I’ll hit Galveston.
What a great idea for mom!!

Nice bag, what about one or two pairs of wool socks. They would help keep her feet warmer in the cooler days, as well as give her more cusion as she walks? I use darn tough wool socks and have been extremely impressed with them.
Great suggestion, I should send her a pair through Amazon.

Just found your video. I’m in my 70’s and this is a great BOB setup. You’re Mom is lucky to have you looking out for her.

This is super awesome if you to do that for your mother!!! That made me smile soo big❤❤❤❤😊😊😊

Great suggestion, sawyer is a great product.
Thanks for watching twice.
@@corleyoutdoors2887, I've watched yours several times. Like you, my family won't use anything complicated. So this waterbottle does a lot with less.
That is a well thought out bag.
Thanks for the commendation and thanks for watching.
Nice simple kit,you need some cordage to set up tarp shelter..
Thanks for watching.
Awesome!!! That is great...very good idea. Will be doing this for my mom as well. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! I hope your mom enjoys her bag.
Good kit. Good man. I subscribed for both reasons.
Thanks for watching and subscribing, and thanks for the commendation.
Wow I really enjoyed that video I'm not much of an outdoorsman I'm gonna rely on Mrs Carbinsky
she built a little cabin on the side of English mountain years ago with out electric power
Yes I love the way you conducted this very nice thank you
Thanks for watching Eloy
Thanks.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the commendation. Everyone should get prepared because the worst is yet to come.

2 Dollar Tree headlamp (high, low, and flash, uses 3 AAA batteries, cheap extra light source)
It should also include:
1 pair sun glasses (cheap plastic ones from Harbor Freight are great)
1 book of matches (for redundancy and weighs almost nothing)
1 tealight candle
1 small notebook and pencil
1 compass
1 signalling whistle
1 small basic travel sewing kit
2 N95 dust masks
50' paracord (for tying up or securing anything)
1 roll Gorilla Tape-To-Go (for a quick temporary mend or to secure things, also can be used for fire starter)
1 cell phone charger and cable
1 car cigarette-lighter USB adapter
1 battery bank charger for cell phone
1 small bag of hard candy (for a slow sugar boost)
1 small container of cough drops
2 1-liter bottles of water (because it is quicker and easier than finding and filtering water)
1 crank radio (to listen for emergency announcements or entertainment)
8 plastic grocery bags (for trash, dirty clothes, shoes, carrying things, etc.)
plastic zipper bags to contain and protect various items
2 hand towels
1 wash cloth
1 double clip clothes hanger (to hang clothes or cloths for use or to dry)
1 or 2 changes of clothes
1 pair of slip-on shoes (to have extra and be more comfortable)
1 pair shower shoes (to protect feet and prevent picking up foot diseases)
a hygiene kit (hair comb/brush, tooth brush, tooth paste, small pack of tissues, tampons (can also be used for fire tinder), small bottle of hand sanitizer (can also be used for cleaning or fire starter), small bar of soap or bottle of liquid soap, deodorant, lip balm stick, tweezers, small scissors, etc.)
Thanks for the suggestions and thanks for watching.👍
@@corleyoutdoors2887 I thought of several more items.
Walmart sells cheap ($0.98, or they used to be) kitchen knives that come in a scabbard.
Several years ago, Dollar Tree sold a nice knife in a scabbard, but not now.
Walmart also sells The Pioneer Woman Pioneer Signature Stainless Steel Paring Knife, 3.5 inch, Teal ($8.44). It was highly regarded in a military/survival video as being a tough knife. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a scabbard, and it only comes in teal.
Dollar Tree Scrub Buddies Heavy Duty Long-Cuff Large Reusable Pink Latex Gloves
These gloves are good to either keep hands clean when doing dirty tasks or can be kept clean for food prep.
@@grepora excellent suggestions!
Great video! Might have to make one for my mom too. Thanks for sharing

always good to put some vitamins in your bugout bags. they way nothing and take up very little room.

Welcome to Texas. Great bag setup. What would you estimate the cost of putting together that bag or a similar bag?
Thanks for watching and thanks for the welcome to the GREAT STATE OF TEXAS!👍 I would estimate this bag at about 300 dollars give or take the price fluctuations on Amazon.

Looks like a really well thought out kit my friend.... Happy Mother's Day to your Mom. Subbed
Thanks for watching and thanks for the subscription. Mothers are very important. We only get one.
My daughter does the same thing she sends me things that she feels i should carry in my bag or first aid kit
You have great daughter, thanks for watching.
better to give her a jar of peanut butter than it is to give her those daytrex rations. Tastes better, better for you, more calories and costs less.
Great suggestion! Thanks for watching.
Don't forget to tell her to add socks and undergarments and have a good pair of hiking shoes with it.
Thanks
Having a little bit of trouble hearing you, but AWESOME video!!!!
Sorry about the 🎤

Fantastic kit. Where do you recommend purchasing the poncho?
Amazon has the Mil-Tec ponchos in different camouflage patterns. Thanks for watching.
The distance of Texas to Georgia is too much right now. When sh!t hits hard, you need to be alot closer
