My god, that synthy bassline with the rapidfire hi-hat at 2:40 is absolute BLISS! The vocals really match the bassline and despite the wistful lyrics Sarah's voice is so dreamy and uplifting. Totally feeling the Big Grams influence here. I still miss their old vibe and hope they don't sway too far, but I could totally live with this.
This is such a masterpiece. This instrumental, her voice in the chorus, her flow in the second verse, the lyrics are quite inspired too, but yeah overall this is just an amazing track.
And this is nothing new, It's just the same old blues Like a devil on my shoulder Nothing left to lose You can never break my heart Everything will fall apart You can never save my soul I think it's time to let me go I keep on having this dream Where I'm stuck in a hole and I can't get out There's always something that's pulling me down, down, down And this is nothing new It's just the same old blue And this is nothing new It's just the same old blues Today I lost my future to the past I got nobody left, I'm going nowhere fast Never getting far away enough Like a shadow on the sidewalk I can't shake it off You can never change my mind I think I'm running out of time You can never save my soul I think it's time to let me go I keep on having this dream Where I'm stuck in a hole and I can't get out There's always something that's pulling me down, down, down My heart is down on it's knees so I try, oh I try But it's too late now There's always something that's pulling me down, down, down I keep on having this dream Where I'm stuck in a hole and I can't get out There's always something that's pulling me down, down, down My heart is down on its knees And no one is hearing me screaming There's always something that's pulling me down, down, down And this is nothing new It's just the same old blues And this is nothing new It's just the same old blues
This song was so beautiful it made me cry. It was one of the last songs I listened to before my Mom suddenly died. That's why this song will always have a special place in my heart.
THE DUBSTEP PART!!!! YESSSS so good!!!! agreed. We actually uploaded a visualizer for this song PURELY because of that part hahaha. Check out our channel if you wanna find it just search "same old blues bangersound" on youtube search to find it.
That chorus ALWAYS makes me tear up... I remember walking out of my house after getting in a fight with an abusive family member and hearing this through my headphones for the first time. UGH. I love you Phantogram. and the guitar solo? Fucking awesome to put in a genre that doesn't usually have one. Y'all always have something new to offer that is a blessing to my young musician ears.
This song was so beautiful it made me cry. It was one of the last songs I listened to before my Mom suddenly died. That's why this song will always have a special place in my heart.
“My heart is down on its knees and no one is hearing me screaming” Those lyrics describe perfectly what it feels like to have crippling depression and dread from your personal life and how corrupt/cruel this world is.
Blown away. I'm loving every Three track so far. This album is still dark lyrically like Voices but the production is definitely more pop this time around and I'm HERE for it. It's trademark Phantogram. Some of y'all are too ridiculous with the critiques.
I love all the comments saying this sounds too poppy, but Phantogram has always made pop music their brand is just different. I personally love this and the lyrics are great.
I think what people mean with their criticism is that this is too mainstream pop sounding . it sounds like an average radio pop hit. honestly to me its not bad but they are definitely trying to get to that mainstream level with this album. idk I you follow then in Instagram but they ha e definitely been trying to place themselves within the mainstream pop scene. with videos and pictures with Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Chance etc. I think this album is Kore of Sarah's direction than Josh's.
I don't agree. They had always stuck to a more Triphop sound. Eyelid Movies is the sound I fell in love with. It still has that choppy, sampled, sampled bit that Phantogram makes. But this is very glossy and sugary, they lost their balls a bit
nope, this is POP and songs like Bill Murray,Celebrating nothing or blackout days are not,4 tracks and none of them have their signature but if they want to go in that direction...
Run Run Blood sounds like their old stuff a bit. You Don't Get Me High Anymore sounds like it belongs in Voices. Cruel World sounds like it belongs to Big Grams. Its all of their styles combined. It's all good but I see where everyone is coming from
I love how I can hear the hip hop, the folk, the indie rock and electronic influences perfectly blended. Phantograms always been the shit. Underrated as fuck.
"I keep on having this dream where I'm stuck in a hole and i can't get out, theres always something thats pulling me down, down, down." Greatest lyrics on the album in my opinion
I searched this up, because I was just listening to fifa 17 songs. By farrr the best song and it’s actually a good song to listen to in your free time.
Love Love Love phantogram...... a rock, gospel, hip hop, electronic song! And all their shit slaps! This one and turn it off are my workout favs.......
The song is amazing but everything from 2:06 just kicks the entire song up a gear! The bass slide and electric guitar coming in at 2:23 and then the breakdown and harmonies afterwards, like WOW.... Fair play, Phantogram 🎉
That part is fucking awesome. I love the rest of the song after that too. Sarah's voice is just so visceral but ethereal at the same time. It's perfect.
Must be somebody taking over the channel, had to search 3 different ways to get to this exact video. Can't just type in Phantogram Same old blues anymore. Gotta go some back roads route to get here now!

best part of the song!
indeed
Victor B legitimately got goosebumps at that part

"Today I lost my future to the past"

I think it's time to let me go

You can never save my soul
I think it's time to let me go

Rip 🕊 how your doing well
I hope you’re doing well 🙏
My mom passed away a few months after this song was released, grief is a hell of a thing, I hope things are “better” now but grief comes in waves
❤ hope all is well
2:40-3:10 is my favorite part
Da Joeman the best part
Yeah its good that part
I think you'd be an Ariana Grande fan.
@@huntergreen6444 She does sound a lot like Ariana there, i like it.

Same. Guess i'm not the only one. (Assuming the part where she sings: "I keep on having this dream
Where I'm stuck in a hole and I can't get out")

One of their most underrated songs.
