From Kentucky. I started volunteering for Alley Cat Advocates many years ago, as well as worked as a volunteer at an animal shelter. 2 years of free, volunteer work got me in the doors at a hospital as a kennel tech. 3 years of kennel teching got me in the doors as a PCA (Pet Care Assistant). I did that for 6 months and became an unlicensed VA. My job is so rewarding that im content to stay as a VA. Maybe one day ill become a certified tech, but until then. Im appreciating what ive worked so hard to accomplish on my own.
Hell yeah you go!! Love people taking small steps to get great careers. I started 13 years ago as a dog daycare attendant. Graduated college with zookeeping degree but found my love in pet care more rewarding and ethical. Slowly worked at various pet care jobs from dog training to shelters to grooming and decided to try my hand at VA. Everyday I learn so much and it can be challenging, and the coworkers can be hard to work with at times (no fault of their own) if you just keep at it everything will fall into place
I worked as a veterinary assistant for 3 years and two different clinics. The first, was a two doctor practice with one technician and four assistants including myself. We worked from 7am to as late as 11pm for minimum wage. I did everything a technician did for no pay or recognition. I recently moved across the country and am currently in school in the PF program.

Hi, hello! I have more of a question about the vet tech program you went through (pennfoster). Do you think it would be possible to finish the program in 12 months? Also, does one have to take videos of clinical/ extern tasks and then send them in?
At my first Job they had us do so much and when i finally went to school i learned that VA are not allowed to do unless dr says its okay 😮 i am wanting to continue my education to learn more and mainly in internal medicine and become a Registered Nurse 🙏. I also love that you can always learn in the medical frailest because its always learning ^^

I'm almost done with the program. It is accredited and they prepare you to sit for the VTNE.
