it’s amazing how you can turn something i usually wouldn’t be interested in into something incredibly relaxing and interesting, the f3 sounds absolutely amazing i am looking forward to you using it!
It's strange that the H6 is the one with the bass rolloff, because I don't know if it's just my headphones or the environment in which I'm listening to this, but it really sounds to me like the H6 is the one with more low-end frequencies in the sounds. Even so though, the background white noise reduction with the F3 is noticeable and dramatic, so I'd definitely agree that it is the superior product!
Hey, Uncle R! I never told anyone this, but I used to have big trouble listening to male people do ASMR because of PTSD caused by sexual abuse. It was like I couldn't fall asleep or relax (aka let my guard down) with guys even for an ASMR video and it deeply frustrated me... until I found you. You were the first male ASMRtist I could listen and fall asleep to, and you opened the door for my mind to try and relax to other new male ASMRtists I felt bad on missing on (because it wasn't their fault, and their videos were amazing) and I will always be grateful to you for opening that door for me. You're special to a lot of us, never forget that 💖
Really happy you're starting to get over that trauma, and I'm sorry you had to go through that. It's a long road ahead, just know that there are always people there for you. ❤
As an ASMRstist starting up, it's fascinating to see you talk about your audio mixing process, in this video alone I learnt a few things that I didn't know but just listening to your explanation about the basics. I usually set the gain high in order to record, but it makes so much more sense to set it lower to reduce noise and then bump up the volume!! Thank you! I don't know how I didn't think of this before!
Extremely large difference. F3 is much quieter. The highs sounds much the same, but the bass is less on the F3; which is noticable on the ribbed can part alot.
With a self noise of only 4.5dba, the RØDE NT1 reissues you have are some of the quietest mics in the entire film and recording industry, regardless of price point. So the upgrade is something I’ve thought you could benefit from, though all your work is stellar. I’m happy for your new tool!
I've been listening since 2014-15 and your channel has always been comforting to me. the fact that its always been there, I could always expect to relax no matter what. Thank you.
Stayed away from this channel for a few years, been watching since 2014, and holy hell it's still such an amazing channel. Thank you for not going away.
As someone who’s going to school for sound production, this is a really cool video to fall asleep to! I think I’ve been to three or four lectures completely dedicated to 32bit floating point technology and it’s still way over my head-it just works and that’s good enough for me haha. Anyways, have a good night ER. Gonna fall asleep to your wonderful world.
Now that's an interesting topic uncle E... I make retro music (80s inspired) and its the analog feeling that I'm after. So the tape noise (mostly white noise) is a thing in every 80s recording. Doesn't matter if it's video or audio the 80s had noise. I think that that is one reason why everything felt more organic back in the day. So I tend to the h6. But the quality of live stands for f3.
It feels like F3 cuts too much lows and a little bit highs, and that said it kinda loses the "deepness" of the sounds. In any case, I don't think that the difference will be noticeable to most people. But the noise reduction is insane!
It was super cool to watch an ASMR video about setting and tweaking the tech you use to make the ASMR video. Weirdly satisfying, like this is ASMR ASMR, in a world of everything else ASMR. It’s itself themed.
i don't have my usual audiophile setup, but i can tell immediately that there is less background noise. audio quality is the same between the two, don't notice a difference there, but background noise is surprisingly low with the f3. the H6 also has a harsher noise, the F3 does a good job keeping the background noise pretty soft.
32 bit float gives you a huge amount of headroom which is why gain isn’t really necessary during recording. 0db is not the highest you can go like with normal integer formats
I'm not going to lie, I never noticed the background static thing until you mentioned it and now I can't unhear it, good or bad I can now hear it so thanks for the interesting experience today. Love the video btw.
Film student here!! Very true! The amount of background noise or “room tone” as we call it also really effects that hiss in the background. The more room tone, the more hiss!
Noise gate on the F3 is really good cuts background audio out almost completely while having audio come in that's just insane on top of it having very Little noise it's self so it's not picking up it's own vibrations very cool piece ty for sharing
This was so interesting, I’ve always wanted to know more about how each younger films their videos and what they use but it’s often never talked about. Thank you!
as a music producer I’ve got a bit of experience with audio systems, personally I think the F3 sounds like it does a better job handling volume spikes (the ducking is less noticeable, particularly on the jar lid sounds) but that could also be attributed to the lower noise floor (higher noise floor on the H6 will make volume ducks more apparent). I think in the end which one you use is really gonna be dependent on what kind of video you’re recording. Something that’s meant to be more ambience or have a more lofi feel, or lots of really quiet sounds? H6. (higher noise floor would lead to white noise filling the gaps better with the really quiet sounds if you want that.) Making a video with an assortment of various triggers and you want them all to be very crisp with no background sounds? F3. All in all I think I prefer the clarity of the new recorder, but I think some (very minor) eqing could be done to bring back some of the midrange body that’s lost with it compared to the H6 Edit: I did notice some high pitched crackles (? I guess, I don’t really know what to call them) around 29:50. Not sure if this was caused by either of the recorders or if it’s just an artifact of the noise reduction.
I actually have no clue what these crackles could be, because I’ve rewatched the same section of video several times and the crackles happen in different places every time. So it’s my earbuds (currently writing this in my bed) or UA-cam fucking up 🤷♂️
The ASMR videos you make are always really damn good, but the H6 always had that white noise that used to give me a headache if I really payed attention to it. so F3 is so much greater!
Thank you for this insights! I would say, with the new recorder the sounds, especially your voice are a little bit thinner. Maybe thats just an EQ thing. But with the old recorder, there was more volume in your voice. I cant describe it exactly. Maybe the old one sounds warmer.
Felt the same. Also (maybe just my in-ear headphones) It felt like on the new one the sound of the trigger ist split in 2. Like there is a bass version that was projected into the depths of my ear and the actual sound was closer to the exit of my ear.
the F3 feels a lot more accurate and flat, whish works well for some triggers but not so well for others were the less natural bass of the H6 do wonders. I like both, therefore the F3 was a good investment for that extra low noise.
never really thought much about audio tech but you managed to make it fascinating. in retrospect it makes me wonder how exactly headphones reproduce sound
Interesting video, really nice reduction in noise. The F3 audio seems a bit flatter. I guess it could just be the base roll off, but could also be that you need to make sure you treat the audio right, ie as 32bit float, to not loose precision
I’m not actually sure if UA-cam supports 32bit audio, and if it did they love to horribly compress audio and video to make streaming better. I noticed listening to ASMR on Spotify is a way better experience. Recommend giving it a try
around the 21:00 min mark there seems to be something going on the the auto gain on the f3. kinda like its waving down. besides that f3 seems to have a little less noise at the cost of also losing some low end that give a lot of the sounds their body.
A 32 bit recorder for ASMR is hilarious overkill LMAO for reference, this is the kind of device that can capture a car crash at close distance without clipping. I THINK it can even capture a rocket from close distance, but I might be wrong.
For me personaly i think that the f3 object sounds do sound better but for voice and speaking i think the h6 is somewhat better the f3 sounds a bit muffled when speaking
H6 feels more open, like my ears are not plugged with some kind of gel and has a better bass. Though I can definitely see the use of the F3 in some places, like the F3 when meeting in whats ment to be the emptiness and I guess void like areas. It’ll really bring that out. Also the F3 and tuning fork is amazing.
Overall in my opinion I think the F3 is a tad quiter but not really noticeable and has a more solid sound base whether the H6 is a tad more louder and is and has a bit more of a open and free sound
It’s always a good day when Uncle E educates you about how something works, nice to see the process of how he records his videos
I agree he made this very informative and did a good job At making it digestible

Personally, I like the H6 better, the sound is a bit more crisp. However, the noise reduction is better on the F3
Yeah I could really see the difference on the jar test

He has three vids dedicated to cap sounds.
You’re not alone in the intensity/bass of the H6, however just like you I can tell there’s a huge difference in white noise between the two

I don‘t know anything about Audio Recorder but this is relaxing…

I love how you wanted to film a test but were able to turn it into content - the best of both worlds!
It feels like F3 cuts too much lows and a little bit highs, and that said it kinda loses the "deepness" of the sounds. In any case, I don't think that the difference will be noticeable to most people. But the noise reduction is insane!
The recorder doesn't cut frequency if then it's the microphone
Playing with the gain was a really powerful trigger. I’d love another video with you just playing with settings. Great video uncle e!
One off my best Asmr channels to watch gets my mind to ease always stoked to see a new video of yours thx ☺️
