My parents aren’t home and I know NOTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING about motors or engines or anytype of thing even close to it. 1ST VIDEO I WATCHED LAST VIDEO I WATCHED … thank you… I haven’t been able to mow in like 2 months because it’s been dead and It has just gotten to me that I need to do something…. I haven’t started to do this yet but I can tell that you made it easy enough for ppl like me that know nothing about this stuff and thank you again
Good question! I have never jumped a car with a lawn mower but I think you could a small car. Where it would depend on the lawn mower battery's CCA (cold cranking amps) which is usually listed on the side of the battery. For SUVs or trucks I would say a lawn mower battery won't usually have enough power to jump start them. If you do jump your car I'd probably charge the mower battery afterward.
Not knowing, I guess I’m lucky because I’ve jumped my Gravely a few times with my running car before I decided to replace the battery. Mower runs fine.
didn't work. how long do you leave cable connected to each before disconnecting then trying to start the mower? I can not start my mower unless sitting on it and the batter is under the seat?
That's a tough one. I would be a little leary trying to charge it with a car battery in case it caused damage leaving it hooked up to a larger battery for an extended period of time. If you want to risk it I'd try 10-15 minutes then disconnect. A battery charger would be best, where here is a video on how to use one of them. ua-cam.com/video/6RKQFCavKVc/v-deo.html
Thank you very much for replyingt. I didn't leave the posts charging too long. Finally took it back and didn't know but found out it was under warranty and I got a free replacement!! Yet I learned from your video a new thing now. Thank you
Hi Lou, not usually just to start the mower. Where the jumper cables are more for an instant start to get your yard mowed right away. I would recommend hooking it up to a battery maintainer after you mow, where it will fully charge it after several hours. Here is a video showing them... ua-cam.com/video/6RKQFCavKVc/v-deo.html
Thanks for this information. I appreciate it, but now I have anxiety about it. I’ll probably wait until someone with more experience than me can assist me. I do value your video, though.
Hi charlottegoddard448. That's totally understandable to wait and have someone help you for your first few times if you're anxious. I get a little nervous myself at times hooking them up. Thanks for the comment!
Hi Noel, good question. It is for safety where when you connect the black cable there can sometimes be a spark. Hooking it to the frame gets it away from the fuel tank and from the charging battery that can give off fumes that can ignite. It would work to hook it straight to the mower battery black but just be aware that is a little more dangerous.
@@Z23go Thanks. It worked for me anyway in so much as it turned the engine over. The problem is my engine doesn't seem to be getting the petrol though.
That may be a clogged fuel filter if you haven't changed it in awhile. Or possibly the fuel solenoid is stuck. Try tapping the fuel solenoid gently with a wrench while cranking. If that don't work here is a video on how to clean it. ua-cam.com/video/Ive8AYwn27A/v-deo.html
Sometimes you can position the jumper cable clamps where they are near flat against the battery and then lower the seat without crushing them. If that don't work you could also hook up the cables. Then making sure the mower is in neutral / park. Press on the middle of the raised seat while turning the key. There is a sensor in the seat that is triggered by weight, sometimes you can push hard enough to make it think someone is sitting on it. This method works best with two people. Be careful and hope that helps!
Thank you so much! Got it started and stayed safe👍🏻. Your video was clear and well made.
Thank you! Glad you got it started and stayed safe!
Thank you for just getting to the point. Most videos on UA-cam are not like that
You're welcome. Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep them short and to the point.

This video is the only one that worked for me
Great video. I did this. Mower started warmed up for 5 minutes. Died 30 seconds into mowing. Any ideas? Battery is totally dead.
Buy a new battery
Thank man. I am so glad I watched you first.
You're welcome. Hope you got it running!
So what happens if you accidentally try to jump your lawnmower off and your car is running?
Well done! Thank you for the process.
Thank you!
12v is 12v but can you use the mower for the car?

Oh great to hear! Love when things are still under warranty! Glad you got it fixed.
That's why there is a emergency break so u can get off it while running
does the mower need a few minutes before starting to get an adequate charge from the car battery?

I've watched other videos that did absolutely nothing, you are right on the money, fired right up. Thank you
Glad to hear it worked for you!
Is the car key in the on position but not all the way to the ignition being turned on?
No, the car key is in the Off position. Since we're hooking straight to the battery you don't have to turn the car on.
I figured as much but better safe than sorry thank you very much for your video and your personal assistance.
You're welcome.
This did not work. Ended up using a portable jumper pack that hooks the red and black cable directly to the battery. Started no problem.
I'm sorry this didn't work for you but glad you were still able to get it started. Thanks for the feedback!
Tried this but it just clicks. Can anyone tell me what part(s) to check next please?

why does the black go to the frame of the mower and not to the mower battery black?

@@Z23go had to bring it to a pro. A dropped valve. €200 🤮
Thank you!

Do i turn my car on
No, you want your vehicle turned off when jumping a mower.
My battery is under the seat and the seat needs to be down to turn the mower on 😐
