Absolutely brilliant film! Particularly Pete Postlethwaite - a beautiful performance. RIP Pete.
I really enjoy this film, it just has a nice feel to it. I remember seeing this in theaters, and just getting this feel of actually being there. I must say though that I am not and never have been a huge fan of Ewan McGregor, to me he just always seems to be trying to hard. The rest of the cast is absolutely stand out as always. I feel about this film the same way as I do the movies "Gregory's Girl" and "Blow Dry" from 2001. I don't know if you knew that the comments were turned off for the previous two movies but I thought you guys did amazing on them. I cannot wait until next week lads take care and have a great time.
[Andy H] Thanks for the heads up, Damien. The comments should be back on for those now. We're in the middle of a change-up behind the scenes at the moment, but hopefully we can stop that happening in future; chatting to everyone in the comments is one of our favourite parts of the channel so we definitely want to make sure they're live!
I finally saw this film a couple of years ago, with my unis brass band (I play trombone) and my God is it beautiful.
So glad you discussed how great all the music is in the film. Ironic timing with the current political problems at the moment.
And that clown scene. I struggle to think of a more harrowing moment in cinema. In fact there's plenty of tragic moments throughout this film.
But yes, just a beautiful film. Probably the best film focused around musicians I can think of.
[Andy H] Sounds like the perfect group to watch it with! There are some images in cinema that cement in your mind from the moment you see them, and that clown scene is certainly one for me
Ooh smashing! A Film Club for once I've already seen (many times). One that I always pair with and consider a kind of unofficial sequel, and hope you can have a look at sometime soon, Little Voice.
[Andy H] Nice! I've never heard of that, will definitely have to check it out!
Brilliant film. Whilst Pete Postlethwaite is on top notch form (like he always was), but for me the stand out actor was Steve Tompkinson. The church scene, attempted suicide and hospital scenes are heartbreaking 😢
Pete Postlethwaite was one of the greats
[Andy H] Totally agree!
My favourite actor of all time
