The first time I heard this I was like 13/14. I'm 46 now and this song still sounds amazing now in 2017. The 80's were really the best era for heavy metal.
stormwind47 Same here. My first rock concert was Saxon in Mainz Germany during their World Crusade Tour. I was 13/14. One of my dad's U.S. Army buddies introduced us to Saxon via their Crusader album. I'm 48 now, and their music still gets me going just like 1983/4.
Saxon has always been under rated, they were equals with Priest and Maiden in the eighties. Too bad North America never really picked upon them. Incredible band!!!
Yeah, I'm in North Carolina. I used to rock Saxon in high school in the early 80s. "Strong Arm of the Law" was one of those bad ass albums you could put in and just let it play. I liked "Denim and Leather" but "Crusader" ended up being my favorite Saxon Album. People said they "sold out" or "went commercial" with "Crusader", but I disagree. I think they had refined their sound, peaked their talent, and made one of my top 20 best overall albums of my lifetime. I saw them at the first ever "Monsters of Rock" at Donington Castle in England. My dad was Air Force and we lived in Upper Heyford. I saw them live in Fayetteville NC, later in the 80s. I can't remember which album they were touring but they played "Crusader" so it was later then that Album. They are one of a few bands I've seen live more than once. I still listen to them.
I saw Saxon open for Iron Maiden in 1983 when I was 17. Fastway the the first band on stage at that show. Awesome heavy metal show. I am now 52 and still love the old metal. Where did the time go? Very little good rock coming out today. You really have to look for it. Head nod to AIC for still going strong.
@@petrolhead1960 such an underrated band. My favorite bands are Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, White Spirit, and of course Saxon. The bands like Metallica, Megadeth, and Quiet Riot just never clicked with me and I tried hard to like all three of them!
I saw Saxon when they opened for Crue. At that time, Crusader was the only album I'd heard. Now, I've heard every one of them but I still think "Crusader" is my fav.
I dont know if it was but, i was a huge Saxon and Armored Saint Fan. I couldnt wait for that concert. i got there, got Soooooo wasted i dont remember a Freakin thing !! Dammit !!
I’m so glad I went to a Saxon gig at Fort Regent in Jersey in the late eighties... It was a sell out though you see so I had to park me hog in a field outside and sneak in through a very high and dangerous skylight in the forts famous domed roof, but it was worth it I have to say, and I even caught a drumstick that was thrown into the crowd....
I saw them at Hammersmith Odeon on this tour.. Incredible sound and I agree with the comments about the line-up. Very, very underrated band with fantastic songs conjuring historical imagery with a huge wall of sound.
buena letra y ritmo hoy Crusader para salir de la depresion/angustia y stres todos los dias y ser LIBRE destruyendo lo que te hace daño para seguir al SEÑOR

Perfect song, GREAT melodic and super heavy guitar solo (Paul Quinn, genius)... The band was in his absolute peak after "Power &Glory" album. This song was, far away, the Best from "Crusader" album.

You have got to be joking! Biff Byfords image is raw and real like his background, and his amazing eerie power of those vocals compliment the simple primeval driving energy of their music. They hit the spot that few others can. Certainly not a lightweight plastic concoction like Spinal Tap. who are not in the same league.
I'm 19 right now, it has been my favourite song ever since I was 8. I thank my godfather for that...

One of the best heavy metal song of ever, i know words and i feel this music, just .... waouh !!!
Paul Quinn is SO AMAZING...unique and brilliant player...when he starts a solo you know always something special is gonna happen...

This was the very first album I bought. Still love it. The best heavy metal band
Reminds me of so many good old memories this music. Crusader, crusader a legend is born, the future will honor your deeds....
The best song from the best line up of Saxon. Paul Quinn and Graham Oliver were devastating together.
For me it’s Sailing to America and Run For Your Lives but Crusader is special since it got me into Saxon!

Saw Saxon in 83 and Metallica was opening act with Dave mustain, also saw them open for motley crue in 85
crusader (80s album version) has the best guitar solo in rock history
yep my favorite along beat it and bark at the moon, never get tired of listening
And possibly one of the coolest Album Art as well
One of the bests.
I think Sailing to America’s solo is even better!
R.I.P Graham I miss you everyday
Quinn and Oliver were always fantastic players both live and also in the studio.
I think Quinn and Scarratt are a far better duo tho. Their best work is in the earlier 2000s
Absolutely one of the best metal songs! Still gives me goosebumps when you hear the battle cry!
I was at this show, Accept opened the show, Awesome!
I saw Saxon when they opened for Crue. At that time, Crusader was the only album I'd heard. Now, I've heard every one of them but I still think "Crusader" is my fav.

Saxon, Crusader
===
(Who dares battle the Saracen)
Crusader, crusader, please take me with you
The battle lies far to the east
Crusader, crusader, don't leave me alone
I want to ride out on your quest
I'm waiting, I'm waiting, to stand by your side
To fight with you over the sea
They're calling, they're calling, I have to be there
The holy land has to be free
Fight the good fight
Believe what is right
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Fight the good fight
With all your might
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
We're marching, we're marching, to a land far from home
No one can say who'll return
For Christendom's sake, we'll take our revenge
On the pagans from out of the east
We Christians are coming, with swords held on high
United by faith and the cause
The Saracen heathen will soon taste our steel
Our standards will rise 'cross the land
Fight the good fight
Believe what is right
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Fight the good fight
With all your might
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
To battle, to battle, the Saracen hordes
We follow the warrior king
Onward, ride onward, into the fight
We carry the sign of the cross
Warlords of England, Knights of the Realm
Spilling their blood in the sand
Crusader, crusader, the legend is born
The future will honour your deeds
Fight the good fight
Believe what is right
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Fight the good fight
With all your might
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
(Come Crusader let battle commence)
Fight the good fight
Believe what is right
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Fight the good fight
Believe what is right
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm
Crusader, the Lord of the Realm

If it weren't for the Crusaders we would all be speaking Arabic and worshiping Muhammad
We need The Crusades 2 now…

There was never anything too wrong with the music, but Saxon always were a bit Spinal Tap in terms of image lol
spinal tap was partly based on Saxon.
Specially the bass player
Fuck off
rhythman69uk I agree!! Just never got into them! Still can’t! Liked a lot of the other NWOBHM, just not them!

Saxon pioneers of black metal
Not, Saxon is more Speed Metal, or simply Heavy Metal, than Black Metal. Nothing to see.
