I appreciate your calm pace, I can digest without rewinding... You were so thorough. I will watch more of your videos, I don't have one and was debating the regular verse the air fryer option actually, glad I watched this.
I appreciate a review from someone that has used IP products. Not. Oh I just got this....I found you to be easy to listen to. Calm voice and steady personality. And you really seem to know what you are talking about. It helped me make a fair comparison on the 2 modes. I have worn out my IP duo and you helped me make my decision about getting a new one. I picked the less expensive one. Because I don't have lots of money. But I used my IP duo ALL the time. Which is why it perhaps just wore out. I even tried to fix it with parts for the lid. I hope the new Duo Crisp XL is even better. Looking forward to the air crisp lid. Maybe now I can donate my cheap air fryer and rotisserie. I don't have any more room in my kitchen for great small appliances. And those latter live on my outdoor covered deck. The IP has earned a permanent spot on my counter though.
I just got my Instant Pot Pro Crisp and I love the sauté levels and the inner pot with handles and flat bottom. Your review was the reason I made the decision. Our Duo Crisp has a new friend and we'll be cooking with them both. Thanks so much for contributing a wonderful share of calm to our cooking life.
I have been using the Instant Pot Duo Crisp for about two years almost every week and wore it out. It died last week. Today I ordered the Instant Pot Duo Pro Crisp from Amazon. It should arrive tomorrow. I can't wait. 😁
Thanks Susan! We are traveling in an RV and want a nice meals ready when we get back from hiking. We don't have much space and can deal with the limitations of the combo machine. Thanks for the rundown!
That was a great comparison thanks! I will be sticking with my Duo Crisp for now as not enough room for both! I have had mine for about 18months but I still don't really understand when I would use roast, when to use bake and when to use air fryer - for instance if I cook a lasagne , which would be the best? Or potato gratin? Or quiche? I would love to see a video on what meals = what function if you had time/inclination!
That is a grand idea. I have ended up just using the manual functions all the time. My understanding is that things like steam, bake, roast are just presets for the lids. My biggest gripe is the lack of paper manual!
I love the saute functions on the pro crisp, also the steam release is a good upgrade because ive notoced on my duo crisp i have to hold the button down to vent, it will pop back up on me unless i push down a few times to get it to stay down. Not a big deal, buti still love my duo crisp! Ive made so much different types of food in it. It is really convenient! Greetings from Texas, we are anticipating a hard freeze in a day so that means lentil soup in the pot😁 and a homemade bread using the air fryer lid
I still love mine too and, while I've the room, I'm hanging on to it. These older models feel like they were made to last forever! Oh that sounds like cold weather for Texas? Hope it warms up soon and in the meantime, you've gotta love an excuse to make a big batch of lentil soup 😊
Thanks. I've got the duo crisp & air fryer. One thing I'm wondering about is the slow cooker function. For me it's been over-cooking my casseroles and I'm not sure why. When I had a slow cooker it took 8 hours to cook a meat casserole. With the slow cooker funtion on my instant pot, after 8 hours the meat was tough and dry and the vegetavles were mush! Have you found this at all?
I do very little slow cooking as I'm pressure cooking gal but I did test another model, (theIP Pro) for slow cooking and picked up some tips that might be relevant. Generally they undercook rather than overcook so that's a new one for me. You could investigate further by using an ordinary lid for slow cooking and then you can keep testing temp with Instant Read Thermom to work out what's happening with yours. Heres the slow cook video too: ua-cam.com/video/5Ei-JKUiBfk/v-deo.html
Not even halfway through the vid and can say it is extremely informative and a help to me. Already leaning towards the Pro even with all the pieces. Thank you.
Hi Susan, from San Antonio! 👋🐈 Wow, how did I not manage to view your video when I was researching which brand of air fryer to purchase, back in October '23? You did an EXCEPTIONAL presentation on the comparison of Duo and Duo w/ Ultimate lid from 11 months ago. I recently stumbled upon that particular feed, now a subscriber. I feel terrible!! I purchased the Duo Crisp w/ Ultimate Lid back in mid October '23. I "thought" that I had done a thorough research prior to chosing that model of IP. Wrong (!) in a couple of ways... embarrassingly so. 1. The inability to change out the seal. Why I did not pickup on that, from other videos... a Shakespearean mystery. I agree with your assessment, that in time, this seal will fail. And 2., the embarrassing part, I bought the 6.5 QT!! Why the 6.5 qt?? I have no clue... it was 4 months ago. There is not ONE accessory that IP has for this 6.5 qt... not one! I recently contacted IP customer support, who sent an email stating that a steamer is now offered ("sorry, no other items"). I pulled up the IP page that was referred to in the email, and the steamer is for 6, 7, and 8 qt. No 6.5 qt... so I would have to buy the 6 qt? How could a manufacturer not provide accessories? It is how companies make money, on expendables and accessories. I was... stunned? I am sorry... did not intend to rant. I live on my SS (social security) so this was a pricey "luxury" item within my small apartment kitchen. I rarely cook as I live alone at 70, mostly nuke my foods. In April '23 I took on keto living, as my health was... medically unhealthy. The air fryer concept, married to a keto lifestyle, became quite logical. But whyyyyyyy did I purchase the 6.5 qt??? The other sad thing is that I have only ran the test break-in, with water, on the IP... zero cooking. It is on my small kitchen counter, collecting dust. I still have the original box and packing material, yet that Amazon "30-day free return" ship has long sailed. I have had some very trying "life moments" since mid-October, trying out something new simply did not fit in. Enough of the pity party. I decided to box it up, stick it in a closet, do the "out of sight, out of mind". And in a few months, when finances are stable, will start another search for a combo unit... a 6 qt. Thank you Susan for reading this in its entirety, writing to someone who can relate (well, except for the not using the IP) did help me come to a conclusion for this kitchen counter nightmare. And again, exceptional presentation. 👏 🐈
Ah thank you so much and I'm sorry to hear your troubles. I really hope you can find the right thing when you've had some space from it all. What a good idea to give yourself permission to have a break. Nice work 👍
@CookingandCalm Hi Susan! 👋🐈 Thank you so much for responding! I have been learning much from the great content of your comment section. It will make my next purchase much easier. Yes, one must forgive oneself first, unload that baggage, to make the journey lighter, going forward. 🙏🐈
Love you no fuss advice. I have an Instantpot Duo Crisp. I am an expat living in South Africa so its great to have an English friend❤ keep those quick and easy ones coming
Hi Susan, thank you so much for your videos. It would be really helpful if you could do one for IP Pro vs Pro Crisp. I am really struggling to choose between these two. I know you've said before that you gonna do one, but probably very busy. Thank you in advance 😊
Hi there, yes I've donated my original IP Duo Crisp now but if the below doesn't help, do drop me a line via my website telling me what you're looking for and happy to try and help if I can. They are both great pressure cookers and availability seems to vary by country at the moment. The main difference is - the Pro Crisp has the airfryer functions so you may not need those if you already have a standalone air fryer. - The IP Pro has some buttons that you can customise for your own recipes so you can have quick access settings and is slightly more customisable. There is also a new IP Pro Plus which adds a canning function.
You are welcome. I bought that big Ninja with the thermometer thingy to test but I've had to put it back in the box for now as we're in a little flat with open plan, and it was crazy noisy 📣😩
Hi Susan. Thank you so much for this and all your other videos! I love your calm, quiet presentation. I have just ordered my first Instant Pot (I went for the Pro Crisp after watching all your videos!) and am looking through your recipe ideas while I wait for it to arrive! Do you have text versions of the recipes anywhere, to easily import them into my recipe app, or is it all videos? Either way, thank you again for all this helpful and enjoyable content!
Thank you so much @hayleymillar3981 . There are a few on my website but I'm still very behind. Have a look there in case the one you're looking for is up (or sometimes in the description)
Hi there, the lids are the same . I didn’t pay enough attention to cleaning on my original - eventually it got kind of sticky like any grill/broil pan so I cleaned with an oven cleaner very carefully. (This would likely invalidate warranty) With this new one I’m giving the element a quick wipe down each time to reduce build up- very similar to all air fryers in terms of cleaning. Fiddly but fine. Hope that helps
Really great video! Are there any stainless steel air frying baskets for the 8 QT Pro Crisp to replace the nonstick pieces it comes with? I searched and had no findings other than for steaming baskets. None I found for air frying. Nonstick is such a disappointment and health hazard. The metals used underneath the nonstick coatings are typically horrific on health, that is why the manufacturers usually recommend trashing anything with a scratched nonstick coating, it is because they know that the metals they used are toxic underneath. It is certainly worth the effort in avoiding nonstick altogether. Thank you for your informative video comparing the two Instant Pots!
Thank you. Yes I don’t like non stick either. I’ve not seen any air fryers with stainless steel baskets so I don’t think so but if you find anything I’d be interested to know. I think the ip one is ceramic
@@macccaaaaaaahi does the steaming basked work? I’m trying to decide if i want to go for instant pot Pro or pro Crisp. Non stick coating would be a deal breaker
@@RosaSempervirens it does! It's actually perfect and much better than the non stick version that came with it (barely sticks, cleans up easier and can put in the dishwasher without any worry)
@@macccaaaaaaa out of curiosity, where did you find the basket? I'm looking to avoid non-stick at all costs, it's the reason I've narrowed my search down to Instant pot over other brands in the first place!
Great overview! I came from your older video where you were returning the all in one IP so I was curious what you had to say about the Pro Crisp vs the Duo Crisp! I have the an older version of the Pro Crisp (I got it just over three years ago, though in Canada) and it used to come with the same trivet as your Duo Pot Crisp, i.e. with the trivet that you can reverse and lock the legs, so they've obviously changed that. Everything else about my Duo Pro Crisp seems to be the same as what you showed. 😊
Glad it was helpful and thanks for that. It's really strange that they've changed it. Great you've got the good one. So many models, so many differences. It makes me head spin some days
Hi there, The model that pressure cans is the Instant Pot Pro Plus - I don’t have it but there are pressure canning Facebook groups that might be able to help you better with how well it works. I hope that helps 👍
I like the look of the pro crisp. However, I will have to wait until my duo crisp fails. The extra saute controls look great. I've been using wooden spoons to prop the pan up. However, I do like the quick release on mine as it keeps all the cupboards sparkly steam cleaned! I wonder if the new inner pot will be better for slow cooking?
Oh that made me laugh 🤣. I’ve done a 1st test with a beef barbacoa slow cook and it was ok - usual thing re took longer and had to keep on high. I’ll keep testing 👍
Thank you so much for your videos! I just received my Instant Pot pro crisp and somehow I am uncertain if the foil on the display is just lose as it „concaves“ or just wobbles when I press it … I can push and it bends quite some distance (0,5 cm). Is this normal as it feels weird? Sorry as you see I am having a hard time to describe that issue 😂
Hi there, I’m uploading a short to try and answer - hope it helps. There shouldn’t be movement all around the panel itself , other than a little ‘give’. If this doesn’t help do get onto instant pot as maybe a fault . Good luck with it 👍
The Pro Crisp has a removable air fryer lid and accessories so it does pressure cooking and air frying, dehydrating , grilling/baking etc (and a fair bit more expensive) . It's a great device if you need all in one and don't have an air fryer, though I still think stand alone air fryers are better. The Pro 8L I think is like my 6L and has more features relating to pressure cooking and customising to your own way of cooking but it can't air fry etc . I don't have the Pro 8L so do check on the Instant Pot Site where they usually have a 'side by side' list of functions you can compare hidden away somewhere. I hope that helps.
Does the pot from instant pot duo crisp go with the pro one ? Or there’re not compatible? I use generally two pots and the one that goes with instant pot pro is not avalaible now in 8L can I use my old one ? Thank you
No I’m afraid the ones with handles only work in certain models like the pro and pro crisp. That’s odd that they’ve stopped making the ‘non handle’ model for the 8l. I hope you can find a used one somewhere
Thank you so much. No, you can only use the handle lids in the Pro Crisp and Pro. They 're a completely different shape so I had to buy another of the new models as a spare. Worth it if you have the money as as these new style ones can also be used on the hob so can replace a large pan if you're short on space.
hello I am someone with difficulties doing things, I am looking to get a instant pot in order to diversify my meals in order to improve my quality of life, however I am having difficulties figuring out which one of these would be the best for me. I live in an attic with very little space and my dishwasher is broken so I clean everything in the sink so I'm trying to be reasonable with the space and money I have. I am considering the "Instant pot Pro Crisp" however its fancy and expensive nature makes me reluctant, for someone with very little money to spare do you think paying a little extra is worth it on this, or do you think going for the crisp or more standard variants is a more reasonable choice? PS apologies for the bother.
It's no bother at all. Good to connect. I really do think the standard ones are great so don't hesitate to go for a lower cost model while you work out if the IP is for you. It depends a little on what and how you like to cook - the really big thing about Instant Pots are the pressure cooking function which means you can get great value from cheaper cuts of meat, poultry and use dried beans and lentils so easily. This saves a lot of money. Unless you really need the model with air fryer lid, I'd go with just one from the normal range and get a separate lower cost drawer style air fryer - if you'd like, you can email me via my web link and I'll try and help you understand a bit better what the main differences are. www.cookingandcalm.com/contact
Ah no, sorry, they're not compatible between models as far as I know 😕 - having said that there have been so many new models recently , things could have changed so for 100%, ask the Instant Pot people. I've never really understood why they don't make them compatible (except $) rather than keep pushing out more and more models with only slight variations. That's my moan of the day ;)
Hi there, I'm not sure I've done one. Basically, the Pro has different functions, display and things like the customisable buttons across the front. Hard to explain. I'll try and do a quick Short to show you...feel free to remind me!
Just a quick question, I have an 8L duo pot, I use it near every day, I bought an extra stainless pot and all the accessories, does the old pot fit in the instant pot duo crisp? I'm looking to buy a replacement machine for when my old one gives up the ghost! I'm not really interested in the airfry function as I already have a ninja dual draw. Never been bothered by the lack of handles, and I'm like you, I like the spin to win of the pot. Guess you also like Austin Powers baby!!! Many thanks and keep up the good content, already subbed.
Hi there and thank you fellow spinner! I've never had an 8L Duo but to my knowledge the Instant Pots without Handles are all standard. Might be worth checking with IP just in case some of those earlier models were different, or have a look on their website where it usually has compatibility info in small print somewhere 🕵️

I watched several of your excellent videos about Instant Pot, and in one of them you used some kind of plier to lift the stainless steel airfryer lid in the 2 holes in the middle of it. I can't fint a link to this plier. Could you link it and maybe add it to the description of recommended accessories? Thank you for your time.
Thanks so much Christian. Yes I must add that. In the meantime, the full details are in the description of this video I've linked which will hopefully work. It was one I had for another gadget (the Cobb Barbeque and Grill) and it fits perfectly! Also in the comments of that video you'll see some cheaper and DIY ideas from more creative and ingenious people than me :) I hope that helps. ua-cam.com/video/njIruM9CMmE/v-deo.html
Hello. When I first used the pro crips product, the pot was damaged at several points. I learned from a source that the pots were produced incorrectly. I'm wondering if something similar happened to yours.
Hi there, no mine is fine so far , but I did have a problem with the Ultimate version (hinged lid) which is in another video. A lot of people have had similar problems with that model.
Hi there, no, it doesn't really spray all over the walls but goes straight up when used on 'quick release'. For many things we use, Natural Pressure release which means the steam just eases out over time without any gushing. The Pro Model and some of the other newer models have a little plastic cap over the lid 'whisper quiet' which means the steam releases a little less fast.I hope that helps
@@CookingandCalm but isn't that steam full of curry smells and oils etc? which then coats the walls and cabinets after months and years of cooking. the evaporated stuff has to go somewhere doesn't it.
Yes I can see what you mean but I haven't experienced any differences to 'normal cooking' on the hob with pressure cooking myself - I do put on my extractor fan and open a window if doing a quick release. The only problems have been my own 'user error' - when I've used quick release with sticky foods. And yes, that definitely does cause a mess but you only tend to make that mistake once :)
Thank you - It’s the minimum instant pot recommend in the manuals but I know lots of people don’t follow the advice and apparently fine. I’m going to try it myself though I’m sure it will invalidate the guarantee if I break anything 😳
@@CookingandCalm presumably it's just not going to be able to reach pressure rather than actually break anything. I think if you keep an eye out and notice it's not reaching pressure you'll just turn it off :) I'm with IP Duo Evo Plus 5.7L and I've always thought 1 cup is the minimum water requirement. I wonder if the bigger pots need more water?...
yes absolutely, it will cook any rice. Not quite as 'perfection' as a fancy rice cooker but I use mine for all rice in this house. Also makes an amazing risotto - no stirring! 🎉
oh I know - availability seems to be all over the place at the moment. It's very annoying. If you don't need the air frying function I have been reading up on the Instant Pot Duo Plus Whisper Quiet which is much cheaper and that looks like a really good Instant Pot to me. I'm going to buy it and test it as it's gone on sale today here in the Uk. It doesn't have the fancy inner pot with handles but is meant to be less 'spinny' and also has variable control on the saute which is the other feature I think is really good. I hope you manage to get one you like
Is that the smaller version of the one in this video, I've not heard any problems. The one with the hinged lid (called Ultimate Lid here in the UK) is the one I had problems with. It doesn't affect everyone but there's a fair amount of us had problems. I hope they've sorted by now.
Hi there, It's not happened to me but yes I've definitely heard of people getting that at first. If you haven't already, do a double check for any packaging underneath the inner liner or to the sides just in case. Then wash your liner and air fry accessories well in hot soapy water or in the dishwasher- that should help get rid of any residue of that gluey stuff manufacturers often coat appliance with to stop rusting. It also burns off usually after a few cooks. There should be instructions in your manual so check that for your particular model too(they're usually online). If you follow what it says in there and still a problem with a smell after a few cooks, I'd get onto Instant Pot and ask them. Good luck with it and have a good weekend :)
Other than the crisp function with the additional lid, what are the main difference between the Pro Crisp and the Pro? I've watched both videos that you did, and it's not really clear to me what the big differences are.
I’ll do a vid on this soon. In some ways it’s the usual differences eg. You lose things like the yogurt button to make room for the air-fryer pre-set buttons. All of that I expected. But then some other differences …you’ve seen my Pro review so might remember that there are 5 customisable favourites buttons on there. These aren’t present on the Pro Crisp. There are also less preset functions programmed in as you spin the dial (so eg. No rice button with the white and brown settings) This doesn’t matter if you don’t use presets but is different. Also the display on the IP Pro is newer and sharper - I expected them to be the same. Also on the Pro there is that little timer feature now where you can set natural release to ‘beep’ after 5 or 10 minutes. That’s not present on the Pro Crisp. None of these are game changers for me personally, and I’m enjoying the Pro Crisp very much, but I was surprised at some of the differences. I do miss those favourite buttons cos I have a terrible memory. Hope that helps til I can get to making a vid on this
I bought a regular 6 quart Instant Pot a few years ago. I use it a lot for making my yogurt. Recently I wanted to buy an 8 quart. When I was looking on Amazon I saw the 8 quart that came with the air fryer lid. That's when I went to UA-cam and saw some recipes. So that's why I bought the one I have now. I'm grateful for all the recipes on UA-cam from people like you. If you weren't doing your videos I wouldn't be able to use them. I'm a visual person. I like to watch.
I’m a 30 yo guy and for some reason I clicked on subscribe. This woman’s relaxing voice got me hypnotized I guess. 😅 Bob Ross of pressure cooking? :)

Ma'am. Thank you so much for making this video! It really Consider what's more important! Do i want more fancy pot/fryer or more food in the budget?
Great way of looking at it! Both are great machines
Thank you for the comparison! For the air frying lids, do you find one easier to clean than the other? How do you go about cleaning them?
Hi there, the lids are the same . I didn’t pay enough attention to cleaning on my original - eventually it got kind of sticky like any grill/broil pan so I cleaned with an oven cleaner very carefully. (This would likely invalidate warranty)
With this new one I’m giving the element a quick wipe down each time to reduce build up- very similar to all air fryers in terms of cleaning. Fiddly but fine. Hope that helps
Fantastically helpful!
thank you so much!
Would love to hear if someone has found one. I've ordered a steaming basket to try for my duo crisp to use as an air fryer basket
Are you able to can food in mason jars in the instapot?
‘If the panel on the Instant Pot feels weird, check this”
Hi there, I’m uploading a short to try and answer - hope it helps. There shouldn’t be movement all around the panel itself , other than a little ‘give’. If this doesn’t help do get onto instant pot as maybe a fault . Good luck with it 👍
I love the two different lids.
👍
Hi what would be the better option the PRO 8L or the PRO CRİSP?
İs there things missing except for the yoghurt button?
@@CookingandCalm thanks
Does the pot from instant pot duo crisp go with the pro one ? Or there’re not compatible? I use generally two pots and the one that goes with instant pot pro is not avalaible now in 8L can I use my old one ? Thank you
No I’m afraid the ones with handles only work in certain models like the pro and pro crisp. That’s odd that they’ve stopped making the ‘non handle’ model for the 8l. I hope you can find a used one somewhere
can you use the old non handle pot in the pro crisp? love you r video well done
Is the lid compatible with the original IP Pro ? I wonder if I can buy the IP Pro or IP Pro Plus and then buy the lid in future for air fyer upgradfe?
Ah no, sorry, they're not compatible between models as far as I know 😕 - having said that there have been so many new models recently , things could have changed so for 100%, ask the Instant Pot people. I've never really understood why they don't make them compatible (except $) rather than keep pushing out more and more models with only slight variations. That's my moan of the day ;)
@@CookingandCalm Thanks a lot for the clarification!
That really helps a lot!!
I like the spinning of the insert.
Me too 😊
Hi, Why did you say that the Pro Crisp is not very like the Pro with a air fryer lid ? Do you have a video with more explanations ?
Also in the comments of that video you'll see some cheaper and DIY ideas from more creative and ingenious people than me :)
I hope that helps.

Grear video thanks 👍👍
you are so welcome 👍
@@CookingandCalm Ok. Thanks.
Hi, can the pot with the silicone handles go into the oven on normal roasting temperatures?
Yes, absolutely 👍
is there an attachment to collect the steam into a tub? without it spraying all over the kitchen walls.
Love your videos❤
I don’t use 2 ups of water always. For boiled eggs for ex. ?
Wonderful video! Thank you!
Thank you too!
Can you cook white rice in these?
yes absolutely, it will cook any rice. Not quite as 'perfection' as a fancy rice cooker but I use mine for all rice in this house. Also makes an amazing risotto - no stirring! 🎉
I like the pro, it is not available in my country... so sad.
oh I know - availability seems to be all over the place at the moment. I hope you manage to get one you like
I'm expecting my 6.2L instant pot with air fryer lid.
It says its good but I can't tell if its one of the dodgy ones.
What do you think about this?
Is that the smaller version of the one in this video, I've not heard any problems. The one with the hinged lid (called Ultimate Lid here in the UK) is the one I had problems with. It doesn't affect everyone but there's a fair amount of us had problems. I hope they've sorted by now.
@@CookingandCalm Mine is stuck on preheat mode...
Fried my chicken though.
oh no. Is it the slow cook mode - it stays on preheat for hours but is actually cooking (just VERY slowly!)
@@CookingandCalm 6.2L ultimate.
Pressure cooking won't start.
Burnt chicken during preheat.
Stuck in preheat mode.
Air fryer functions work.
Pressure cooking functions don't.
@@TheMightsparrow oh yeah that's the one I had trouble with. Hope you can get some help from Instant Pot on it to sort out. Must be really frustrating
Hi, I read the manual and it seems that the highest air fry temp. for Pro model is 450F but 400F for the other model. Is it true?
Yes you're right, the Pro cooks hotter - the airfrying range is 180F to 450F on the Pro. Hope that helps 👍
Hello,
I bought Instant pot duo crisp.
Smell plastic in airfryer mode. Is it normal?
Thx.
@@CookingandCalm Instant pot have induction heater or resistance?
What is electric consumption?
Thx :)
perfect information. I will get the pro one
Thank you. Enjoy 😊
Hope that helps til I can get to making a vid on this
@@CookingandCalm Thanks, that was really helpful.
You’re welcome 👍
I bought the cheaper one.
It’s a real trooper and has served me well for years . They’re both great !
I bought mine last month from Amazon. My trivet is the one that raises
