In 2009 the group, directed by Krzysztof Pastor, took the name of the Polish National Ballet and gained autonomy as an equal partner of the National Opera at the Grand Theater. A ballet celebration takes place here - the annual "Dance Art Days" festival.
The ballet program includes classics, 20th century choreographies and invites great creators of contemporary ballet, e.g. Forsythe, McGregor, Ratmansky, Gat, Page, Wubbe. Performances with the participation of the Orchestra of the Grand Theater - National Opera.
The Polish National Ballet performs as a guest in several cities in the country and is also known to audiences around the world.
So what's on the agenda now?
“Giselle” - a 2-act ballet masterpiece by the creators of French Romanticism. Its originator was the poet Théophile Gautier. The story of the girl Giselle, seduced and made to fall in love with the peasant Lyos, who turns out to be Prince Albrecht in disguise. This drives her to madness and death. She returns as a willida, the spirit of a girl wronged before marriage. Such spirits meet in a forest cemetery, led by their queen Mirta, to engage young men in a cruel dance until they fall. However, Giselle's love for Albrecht is so great that when he appears at her grave, the girl protects him with her dance until dawn, when the merciless willids lose their power.
This is the original version of Maina Gielgud, an artist with Polish-Lithuanian roots, once a star of European ballet, and then the head of the Australian Ballet and the Royal Danish Ballet.
Choreography by the French creator Marius Petipa, considered the father of classical ballet.
Music: Adolphe-Charles Adam.
"Don Quixote" - ballet in 3 acts
Libretto by Marius Petipa after Miguel de Cervantes.
Choreography in the 2014 version. - performed by Alexei Fadeyechev, a Russian ballet master living in Finland
Musical direction - outstanding Ukrainian conductor - Alexei Baklan.
The main plot is the love adventures of the innkeeper's daughter Kitri and the barber Basilio. Played by Chinara Alizade and Vladimir Yaroshenko). The knight-errant and his servant Sancho Panza only tie the individual scenes together. An extremely colorful, comedic and lively show.
“Bolero+” - a triptych by Krzysztof Pastor - director of the Warsaw ballet. “Moving Rooms”, “Kilar Concerto” and “Bolero”.
“Moving Rooms” begins the ballet evening. These are changing light spaces that create scenes for the dancers. Additionally, there is a musical feast - "Harpsichord Concerto" by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and the preceding fragment of the first "Concerto Grosso" by Alfred Schnittke. This performance is a repertoire hit of the Polish National Ballet, performed many times abroad, including in the United States.
Another of the triptych - "Kilar Concerto" - the first "Piano Concerto" by Wojciech Kilar, which is a tribute to this great composer on the 10th anniversary of his death. A ballet full of expression, emotions, extraordinary interpretation of music, in the spirit of abstraction.
Ravel's "Bolero" at the end of the evening. Krzysztof Pastor created this show in 2012. for the Dutch National Ballet, 4 years later he entered the Polish stage, and from 2023. is included in the repertoire of the Roman Opera ballet.
"Pinocchio" - premiere will take place on April 21, 2024.

“Dracula” - a ballet in 2 acts with a prologue, commissioned by the West Australian Ballet and had its world premiere in September 2018 in Perth. He then became the ballet sensation of the year.
The Polish premiere took place on April 28, 2022.
The libretto was written by Paweł Chynowski based on the novel by Bram Stoker
Music by Wojciech Kilar (film songs and fragments of Kościelec 1909, Concerto for piano and orchestra and Symphony No. 5). He composed the music for the Oscar-winning film "Dracula" directed by Francis Ford Coppola in 1992.
Choreography: Krzysztof Pastor.
A beautiful aristocrat persecuted by fate and only love can save him. A touching and terrifying story of eternal love, even after death.
Krzysztof Pastor's "Dracula" was nominated for the prestigious Helpmann Awards in the "Best ballet performance" category. It was awarded three times in the Performing Arts WA Awards competition - for the concept and implementation of the show, as well as for costumes and musical arrangement.
