...will this tournament be continued? I found it interesting and very well presented. I expected the "newer" nations from Legends to dominate throughout, but happy that the silly fairy tale nations are getting eliminated :) I wonder how much is determined by the specific match up? Will the scythians always lose big against specifically Macedonians, or were they just unlucky in this very tournament? Who knows.
Yes, this tournament will continue. I have just been very busy lately, but I will be getting back to it soon. I think that some of the match ups will certainly go one way or the other every time because one faction is just more powerful than the other, but some match ups are competitive and will depend more on the shuffle of the cards.
have you tried the game yourself too? I'm actually thinking, perhaps the designers had the best version of this game in the design of these bots and their flowcharts. This game is great in many ways, I really like the historical inspiration, but it suffers from being very fiddly and the game takes far too long to play with human players. Most people only enjoy it solo or 2 players at most, just because it is so slow. I think much of it comes down to every card having fiddly text, icons and rules and it makes every round take so long since every card need to be read and considered in combination with all other cards. it is just so slow. But, and this is my point, the bot's turns are generally quite fast and straightforward. Perhaps, if the game was designed with something like these flowcharts as the core even for the players, the game would have been much faster and more elegant? Like, imagine no text on any card what so ever, just each player with their own flowchart presentation of what the 10 or so different kinds of cards do to their specific empire, and how they can be used to create combos and affect other players and so on. Of course it had to be designed, I'm not saying the flowcharts for the bots as is can be used, but as a concept, I'm thinking that could have been a great game. Perhaps something like cards from the "region" suit would make the Celt player draw extra cards, while the same cards for the Roman player would grant them points and military tokens, and so on. But the specific fiddly details of whether it is a forest or a mountain would not matter. Just like the Unrest cards represent everything from famine to revolts, but are streamlined into a single kind of card. Not that it matters, because the game is designed the way it is. I just think they were on to something here that could have been perhaps even better...
I agree that the game is too long. Even in nullitaire, it drags on just a little bit too long. I usually wish it would end about 2 or 3 rounds before it does.
