loved that intro seeker great work! personaly I love the viggen just such a fun plane but it is not the best in sustained dogfights. But thank you so much for this great vid and I cant wait for the a 10 vid in a few weeks keep up the great work!
At 4:32 you saw the radar latch onto the ground. Thats one of my techniques to avoiding radar missiles is to stick to treetop level which will force the missile to track the ground regardless if youre in PD mode or not. I have no idea if this is a bug, but its been here ever since the introduction of PD radars.
It’s not a bug. iirc this is called “multipath propagation” and basically causes exactly what you said; the radar locks a “ghost target” either above or below the _actual_ target (in War Thunder’s case, always below). More modern radars are able to discern which targets are the real ones and which are false by knowing where the ground is and realizing that the enemy jet can’t possibly be in the ground, so it rejects them.
@@tavolo2969 notching would be flying perpendicular to the launch aircraft in order for the doppler gate to reject you as ground clutter. This is something completely different, as the enemy was flying head on, meaning notching had nothing to do with this situation.
hi! i'm an avid viggen pilot the viggen not having tracers is actually fairly accurate, historically. the fire rate on the gun is really slow, so you can generally prefire VERY early and it won't waste your ammo. the viggen rewards playing passively. i like to call it "the rat playstyle". i scrape along the ground, around the side of the map, and come in behind and get people who are heading home, or just getting out of dogfights. i like to keep my speed above mach and rip through the furball that usually goes on in the middle of the map, mopping up kills as i go. my main goal being to not allow more people to join the main furball. i'd recommend trying this playstyle out as it works really well for me.
The reason why the Viggen has no tracers is because the gun is supposed to be aimed via a lead indicator on the HUD. That indicator is not even present in first person mode. In a War Thunder context this realism aspect is just stupid. A third person lead indicator would obviously be a little silly, so just give it tracer belts Gaijin. Please.
19:40 ran outta flares, was paying attention and tried to turn of my engine. I've been loving rhe f5e as you reccomended but got too comfortable spamming flares and that habit got me killed in my f4 a couple games.
What happened w the missile has to do with how gaijin models radar for very low to the ground targets. For whatever reason if something that’s being locked with radar is very close to the ground the lock won’t break w pulse doppler but the lock will move towards the ground off of the target. This is most noticeable and annoying when trying to radar lock helicopters in ground rb but in air rb what it basically means is that radar missiles will almost always miss super low targets like that a7
It has to do with the fact that since the aircraft is so low to the ground, the reflections of the radar's signals by the ground towards the radar receiver become very significant, making it look from the radar's perspective the aircraft is coming from the ground. The radar's in game can't differentiate very well between this false (ground reflection) return and the correct (aircraft reflection) return, at least not when very close to the ground. And since this false return moves at the same speed as the aircraft, SARH missiles like the sparrow which use speed gates also get fooled by it, I'm not sure about "pulse" signal SARH missiles, but they lose lock anyways due to huge amounts of ground clutter. Google "multipath propagation" for a visual example.
Holy crap that intro was amazing. Wonderfully cinematic. Perhaps with a more classical sound? Something to give it some gravitas because the footage was perfect.
Great to see you take a look at the jet I suggested mate it’s a true diamond in the meta right now…please take a deep look at the J8-b when it comes this patch it will be my fav
The primary reason the viggen has no tracers (at least irl) is because the viggen actually had a system built into its onboard computers that effectively autoaimed the aircraft in order to hit a designated target, this included air targets. Of course in game this mechanic doesn't exist of course but it does need some form of lead indicator to make the gun a bit easier to aim.
Intro was good. Maybe little long but o/a it was cool. Another great video tho. Love the viggen, its just a hella sexy plane, wish i could fly it like you :(((((((
Would prefer no intro personally. Maybe do short cinematic intros (shorter than in this video) for say your first time reviewing a jet or something but not revisits? Idk, just an idea, I'd rather you just get after it tho, I am here for the gameplay after all, not a cinematic. It's up to you obviously to decide what you want to do. If you do start doing them, that's fine, I won't complain, I'll just skip them.
Depends on how they come into the game. Currently on the Dev server, the 9L is so gimped that there’s no reason it couldn’t have already been in the game and just given every plane it’s rightful all aspects.

its just not a viable option anymore and thats not a skill issue, i have a lot of experience in it and can easily get 4-5 kills. it's just a lot harder than in other aircraft

I've been having issues with the PD radars locking chaff up too much. My F4E radar performs better than the MiG-23Ms, though that isnt true PD. In the 23M I dont bring radar missiles because I cant get or hold locks. In my F4E my radar will lock targets below me and hold locks through chaff. I went back to it and I'm getting 3+ kills a game because of it
