I can guarantee you DJ lagway is chomping at the bit to get on the field. And I would bet that as the year goes by he will see the field more and more. And he will get better and better as the year goes on. This will be a problem for opposing defenses
I do believe that it depends on the success UF has how much he plays. He is a very humble kid. I was fortunate to meet him a few weeks ago (unreleased episode about meeting him, Nape, and LJ McCray). I truly think his mindset right now is to sit and learn behind Graham, definitely wanting to play, but I think there is a strong dynamic between the two. You don't always see that with big name young guys coming into programs.
@@abckids3476 I definitely think he will play. How much is a question I have myself. It's not quite a Leak/Tebow situation as there's not a fundamental aspect of this offense (like the Meyer/Mullen QB run necessity) where Mertz is deficient. Lagway's legs do add a different dimension, but I don't think the offense changes with him in like it did with Leak/Tebow if that makes sense. I'd imagine (ignoring being up/down big and playing back ups) we see an average of 2 series a game before the first buy week, maybe 3 between bye 1 and bye 2, and then depending on record/offensive performance either back to 2 or significantly higher.

The question is why is it working? Is it working because it's a change up other teams aren't prepared for? Is it because he's doing things the other QB isn't? Could be all sorts of things. Then the question is, if what Mertz is doing is working, why take snaps away from him. It's all an interesting thing we will see play out.
