- Khambatki Ghat is a mountain pass on Pune-Kolhapur section of National Highway 48 in Maharashtra, India. This ghat lies in the Sahyadri mountain ranges (Western Ghats) and has picturesque mountain-scapes and a pleasant climate.
The new 6-Lane tunnel at Khambatki Ghat on Pune-Satara highways (NH-4) is a twin tunnel with 3 lanes each & currently under construction. This Tunnel will completly bypass the Khambatki Ghat in NH 48 and provide safe and time saving journey.

After the tunnel on the pune side, the elevated bridge and the new approach road which is creating a big S- shaped curve, that on a steep slope, why was it not removed while building the new tunnel, bridge and road ?

I have been travelling on Mumbai Pune Bangalore highway regularly since 2002. It has only become slower. Whatever they do , the time required to travel on this highway is only increasing. Neither its a pleasure to drive on this highway. Plus there are speed cameras everywhere. This highway is choked with local traffic till Nipani. People with their two wheelers make it very difficult for a smooth ride for car owners on this highway. Plus people set up restaurants suddenly on the highways. I have decided to travel anywhere in India only by flights now.
India is getting wealthier, more and more people are buying cars so creating traffic. America has the world's best highway network, but they still face huge traffic. Solution is to build bullet train

@@sampen4934 More construction, means more traffic. I have seen construction since I was born. I really don't remember, when did I travel fast in India. Now they are constructing flyovers at intersections on Pune Bangalore highway in Karnataka. That means even more diversions and slow down in traffic. Its horrible. Do a google maps search on time for travel in Europe , USA and Australia. In 10 hrs , you will travel 1000km. In India it takes 17 to 18 hrs. The downside of having 140 crore people living in an area of the quarter of USA which has quarter of India's population.
@@Atheistically69 e-way alignment is different so it wont affect existing traffic that much. In 10-15 years we will be comparable to Europe-US.
E-way acts as grade separator. Where all vehicles will have enough power, fitness and 80+ average speed will be normal.

I'm a regular traveler on this route, but my experience is bitter one! First of all, entire national highway is flooded with large number of hotels & restaurants (which are set up too closely to the main highway) & it's causing traffic congestions frequently.
As far as the Khambataki Tunnel project is concerned, it has to be implemented at earliest possible way.During the festival seasons (especially Dussehra & Diwali) this Ghat section gets frequently bottle-necked due to large number of cars (going towards Satara, Sangli & Kolhapur destinations). I would suggest the MSRDC authority to maintain the old tunnel(2-lane) in operation to compensate the mobility of vehicles (even if there happens any fatal accident on the newly opened road).
Also, one doubt...On the tunnel section at Pune side (as shown in video), why they are building this via duct with large no. of columns/ beams? Since there is no chance of accumulation of water beneath the long bridge! It could also be a normal/ regular road with just small earth work (rather than this much costlier viaduct!). I feel that it's a wastage of funds in doing this viaduct.

Its totally lag project, as per Nitin Gadgari sir March / April 2023 it should be open for traffic. But by seeing current status of project it lool like project will complete in 2025 😂😂😂😂😂

Great video. Looks like the ending part of S-curve is already diverted where there used to be lot of accidents. But the progress is quite slow and it will take around a year.

Actually even today the existing roads should be reversed to save on fuel and time for heavy vehicles. You are making big heavy trucks to climb up hill which you can avoid by reversing the things.

I think one of the big problems is truck drivers... who load their trucks heavily and then occupy whichever lane they want and move at a speed of 40-45 KMPH, making other vehicles constantly switch lanes. So even if you make a 3-lane highway, you just need a few more truck drivers to block the usability of the road.
Also in December, especially in South Maharashtra - North Karnataka, there are a lot of tractors with trolleys filled with sugar cane attached and they move like a snake... zig-zag way!
