I've been put on soooo many medications, with all the side effects and weight gain that come with them. I now have severe white coat syndrome, where even looking at a bp machine will make my bp go up. And prior to the bp meds I was at a healthy weight, I have since gained 30 lbs over the years and am overweight. In my case, I feel that the medical establishment failed me and did more harm than good. Wish I had known this 30 years ago, my diastolic is always 'high' and the reason (I was told by many doctors) for multiple medications for too long. Even with 'stable' and acceptable readings at exams, i'm told if i go off the meds i will have a stroke. Scare tactics and the wheel of always feeling off from the medications have me beyond frustrated with the system. Always enjoy watching your informative videos, so grateful for your no nonsense and calm presentations. It is encouraging when the flip side has left me in lurch and unable to wean me off the meds, even while my diastolic is at 'normal' levels . I am actually experiencing this condition. My diastolic pressure is getting high in the last few weeks causing me dizziness freezing weakness and headache. I was visited by a cardiologist and she told me it could be a starting point of hypertension. I don't eat meat and sugar, don't drink alcohol and coffee and my weight is absolutely normal. I am not as active as i was before covid, of course and i am 51, but still far from menopause. The doctor said to monitorize the pressure for a while and if it is always high she will put me on medication 😬i wasn't happy with the visit, I must admit
Well Dr. Gupta, so Interesting! I really appreciate you explaining this. I have lazy kidney's sometimes. I take no meds. I have noticed that my top number is high sometimes. I've realized that after exercise and after a bit it is fine. So the lifestyle is really helping me! Thank's so much! God Bless You Sir!
I have exactly this and I have come to understand one thing - the diastolic number is very sensitive to stress. Just a little bit of stress or anxiety will drive that up.
it's right. Diastolic pressure is extremely sensitive to stress. Unfortunately I suffer from this problem and I try to control it with breathing techniques. Another fact that sets the tone that the rise in blood pressure is emotional is that when I take my blood pressure when I wake up it is always below 120/80.
Thankyou Dr Gupta for your excellent informative and very helpful videos. Since my diagnoses of Persistent AF 18 months ago you have been my go to Dr. What would we do without you?
I'm mostly plant based, didn't drink a lot of alcohol but have reduced it through Jan and my Diastolic is mostly around 93. Got it down to mid 80's last week and now it's up again. Though I mostly work from him the last few years so I think lack of activity may be an issue. Good video, thanks
I'm hoping to naturally reduce my diastolic pressure after seeing a higher than normal average today of 96. My average systolic pressure was 124 which is still slightly higher than the normal standard but my diastolic used to be in the low to mid 80s at worst. I have gained some weight back and haven't been eating as well as I should these past few weeks so I'm hoping that taking my diet seriously and moving around a little more would help. Thank you for the advice. I really want to avoid medication at all costs since I believe you're right in that it's a disservice to patent and doesn't address any underlying conditions. I'm pretty sure my number is high due to my weight (obesity) and eating more processed and salty food than I should have eaten.

Thank you Dr Gupta! I´m one of them! My friend got medicin because of her lower bloodpressure (90), I do not want that! Very helpful! I will just start walking more, powerwalk with my sticks... Best regards from Sweden
I like your thinking doctor👍. Now I'm sitting here thinking about what might cause such a thing. My quick thought is the shape of the pulse wave might be of some value. I'll give it some more thought...
Thank you for this. I'm not an obese person but high BP runs in my family. Recently i found out I in the family had high BP (160/100) and now on meds & making lifestyle changes. But i saw on my BP device i was 116/90. I thought the bottom number creeping up was bad but after listening to your video i will continue to monitor and exercise and see if it slowly creeps back down.
Edit: exercise a bit more. I have only been doing 45 minutes of walking per day and eating better. I think im feeling confident enough to bump this up to an hour with a light 10 minute jog at the end.
@@louisem2097 Down 40 lbs since the incident. BP on medication sometimes still creeps to 135/85 If I'm feeling unwell but 95% of days I'm around 110/70. I'm still committed to my diet but I no longer feel terrified to eat anything else that isn't a fruit or vegetable.

I always thougt the dystolic pressure was pressure inside the heart. Thank you for clearing that up doc. So no need to worry if dystolic pressure is a little high?
Thanks for the video. However, I would like to get a little bit clarification. First, if possible lifestyle changes fail to make the diastolic pressure normal, would you approve use of drugs to lower it? Or will you still say that is unnecessary since the systolic is acceptable? Second, if I look at it this way..diastolic pressure is the pressure exerted when the heart relaxes, so elevation of distolic pressure implies that even at relaxing heart condition, the pressure exerted on the blood vessels is bit higher (compared to a person with normal diastolic pressure) and if it persists for very long time, say years, will it not cause some damage to the blood vessels (compared to a person with normal diastolic pressure)? I guess the answer depends on elastic properties of the blood vessels about which I have no knowledge. I am not sure if this poorly phrased question makes sense to you. (By the way, in Physics we define pressure to be the perpendicular force on a surface per unit area..)
He already answered. He said that if the vessels are already ok with 120 bars of mercury, then 95 mmHG is not going to hurt the vessels. What might be dangerous is 130-140 mmHG since it exceeds 120. So while there is an underlying problem, the isolated diastolic hypertension itself is not dangerous to vessels and organs.
I had this issue with 12 / 8.9, when I was going through stressful life events and was sedentary. I started brisk walking and a little bit of resistance training, and little bit calmed. Consistently for months, it has been 11 / 7.3 since then. Try moving around, eat better, and feel better, before jumping into these pills. The same goes for statins!
Thanks for this video. Could you go further by explaining how to find the underlying cause? Modern life brings lots of stress and not enough time to exercise. I don’t think that there is one government on earth that cares about that ….
Thank you for the concept of ISOLATED DIASTOLIC HBP, which is new for me. I personally experienced an isolated systolic HBP, in which case taking medication makes sense. However, it might result in bringing the diastolic to an unacceptable level. What is the best attitude in this case?

Thank you so much Dr. Now I am somehow relieved because this is exactly the case I have been suffering from.
Really liked the explanation. Nice & simple
Thank you for reassuring me since this is my problem exactly. I definitely don't want to take any medication.
Thankyou Dr Gupta for your excellent informative and very helpful videos. Since my diagnoses of Persistent AF 18 months ago you have been my go to Dr. What would we do without you?
Wow this is so reassuring - thank you!
Thank you for this explanation!
I just LOVE this doctor😊💚💚
Thank you Dr. Gupta for this video! Do you think high diastolic number is also linked to heart valve problems (mvp) for young patients?
I love your videos. Your explanations are spot on. I am writing a book on Ageing ..meant for the educated layman to understand the science of why they age and what can be done to maintain a healthspan that keeps up with the lifespan. Your ideas resonate with what I believe.
God bless..may there be many more 'sensible' doctors like you who live up to the oath you take as doctors.
Hi Sir. I have been following your videos for years and I found it very reassuring and helpful. The way the videos were taken feels very personal and it seems like I know you for a while. I think you are such a kind person, I wish we could be friends. Thank you ❤
Am a bit relieved as my systolic is below 120, diastolic a bit above 70..Dr put me on amlopedine, but ankles were swelling, so l discontinued..same situation but am practicing a healthier lifestyle
Thanks so much for this video, am a bit relieved..l always like your videos..God bless you
I totally agree with your diagnosis, it’s something I had to discover on my own. I noticed when I exercise my diastolic improves, but I have to exercise regularly to keep it normal.
what kind of exercise do you do?
I'm the opposite!
I've got a Systolic hypertension.
I have been diagnosed (after A stroke) with Left Ventricular systolic dysfunction..(heart)
My stroke is Right Basal ganglia Dysfunction with a left side Paralysis..
Working hard with rehabilitation.
I have the same problem. I am changing my lifestyle - exercise, healthy food, less stress and good sleep. It may take months and I want to get rid off my medicines. Goal: Reverse high blood pressure…❤🙏❤️
And not a word about how to lower it! Thank you!
Thank you for the discussion on this. As always, I find your videos very informative.
Well said sir a big salute to you
Thank you for this.
I’d be interested to hear an update on how you’re getting on
@@louisem2097 Down 40 lbs since the incident. BP on medication sometimes still creeps to 135/85 If I'm feeling unwell but 95% of days I'm around 110/70.
Goal is to lose around 30 more lbs and hope by then I can size down my metaprolol dose.
Quality of life has improved and hope it stays that way. I've just now started to enjoy certain foods again. I'm still committed to my diet but I no longer feel terrified to eat anything else that isn't a fruit or vegetable.
@@FayeNormiewow, really good results. It’s very inspiring when you actually hear success stories. May you keep up the good work 😊🙏🏻
Great explanation!!!! As a medical personnel i was always told to look at the DBP if it is more than 90 treat the patient.yoir another video on age related changes on BP n its effects on treating is an eye opener
Thank you so very much, I'm so relieved. My diastolic is usually a bit high.
Dear Dr. Gupta
I have yet to see or meet a doctor of your caliber of sincerity to help the patients suffering for Hypertension and other Cardiovascular disorders. You are an ambassador of God to help cure the sufferers of disease with your sane advice through these wonderful eye opening videos.
I wish I had a doctor like you to help me get over my health concerns including hypertension and others that have taken away the joy out of my life. I am on medications for the past 14 years which I am sure are causing many adverse side affects. The basic issues remain the same or have got worse.
Currently I am based in the USA. How can I get in touch with you? By email of tele-consultation? Kindly advise and help.
I always thougt the dystolic pressure was pressure inside the heart. Thank you for clearing that up doc. So no need to worry if dystolic pressure is a little high?
Hello Doctor! Greetings from Mauritius. The situation you explain is exactly my case and I have been on tablet for several years now...
Thank you for the informative video, doctor! Please we need to know your thoughts on Isolated Systolic Hypertension and especially for weight lifters.
Thanks Doctor your style of explaining concern problem is wonderful
Thank you for this, Dr Gupta, it is very good to know that the diastolic bp us no big deal! Regaŕrrŕ after all. ❤
Very interesting information.
Would you please make a video on the causes of isolated diastolic hypertension?🙏
Thank you doctor. I always had this confusion about the isolated diastolic pressure.
Always enjoy your videos, especially the ectopic heart beats related to posture and vagal stimulation.
Wish I’d heard this 27 years ago. Does it explain nausea and the need for a pacemaker a year ago? 🤔
Thank you for your knowledge.
Thank you Dr Gupta - so very helpful! Would you mind elaborating on the Lifestyle changes please? 😅
Reducing weight, exercise, diet control
Thank you. Readings are similar and creeping up the same amount. I guess as well as the change in lifestyle, exercise and sleep are just as important?
