SAAD Region 11 Midyear Highlights 2024

In 2023, the Department of Agriculture - Special Area for Agricultural Development Program (DA-SAAD) distributed its layer chicken production project to 14 farmers associations (FA) across 14 municipalities in four provinces of Davao Region. These farmers groups were mostly composed of Indigenous Peoples (IP) living in far-flung areas of the region. The livelihood project consisted of 300 layer chicken with a cage system, 90 sacks of feeds delivered in tranches, and veterinary drugs.
Several months after distribution, the FAs reported income from selling eggs in their respective localities. Tomoaong Livestock Agriculture Association in Tarragona, Davao Oriental, reported a net income of more than Php230,000. All 14 FAs earned more than Php2M from the project. The groups continue to earn from the livelihood project, but only Tomoaong Livestock Agriculture Association has slated to procure an additional 300 birds to increase their production.
