Favorite version: definitely the G1 cassette player. As for a modern version, I gotta agree with the communications truck. Heck, Laserbeak could be the satellite dish on top.
Honestly, I loved TFP and Revenge of the Fallen's alternate modes for Soundwave. He's been responsible for the Decepticon's intelligence gathering since the beginning, and there aren't too many physical symbols of that in the 21st century more recognizable than a Predator drone or an orbiting satellite.
When I think of soundwave in modern times, he has to still be faithful to the legacy of the original. Usually a surveillance and communications officer to megatron, the most basic in terms of form is a military grade communications Vehicle.
I have one problem with this, as I have had with any other military mode he has had in the past. That's not covert. In his appearances he was the intelligence operative and a reconnaissance operative. You're not going to be very good at reconnaissance if you stick out like a sore thumb in modern society like a big armored camo communications truck or a black jet roaring through the sky. The only one I could slightly agree with was his military drone but if anyone saw that flying through a modern city anyone that saw it would be getting ready for an air raid. Soundwave needs a form that can blend in easily anywhere not just in the battle field. You remember what his very first on screen appearance was? A communications tower outside of the autobot city!!!! I really think a communications system service truck like a Comcast van or something suits him far better. Look to my main comment for a more in depth explanation.
I think he should be kept as a casette player. It's such a perfect design. Just because it's not modern doesn't mean it's not cool. As time passes, it just gets more unique.
Sometimes, you just can't beat the Classics. Even though the Microcassette Recorder is outdated, the love for the character is not. If I had to choose, probably a comms vehicle.
That John Bailey voice though really did sound like Frank Welker’s voice. In my book, if Soundwave doesn’t have that Frank Welker voice from G1, it isn’t quite right.
Ive been saying for years either a "portable blue tooth speaker" that looks similar to his g1 tape deck mode, minions could be usb sticks that plug into him. Or some kind of suv(animated style) but have the minions be engine add on's that fit into the hood similar to g1 powermasters.
As a child of the 80s I love his cassette alt mode, but I was very pleased with Transformers Prime. I never questioned his look or alt mode. I agree that a communications truck would be perfect though.
I personally think Animated had the best idea for a modern alternate mode for soundwave, being basically a roadie van with full sound system. firstly, because the concept of audio/sound is tied intrinsically to soundwave so his alt should reflect that. second, having him be a roadie van is honestly very clever (he is basically the roadie for the decepticons, the guy who does all the work to keep things working) and updating his cassettes to now be the instruments/equipment he transports is aa great way of keeping that feature of his
@@christopherauzenne5023 I love that as far as his vehicle mode is concerned. Instruments is one choice, but I think subwoofers in a case could be. Rumble and Frenzy.
That was what I was thinking! He could be able to turn into different forms for infiltration or convenience. This would also make sense since he often doubles as a spy/spy master.
One of the best transformers alongside with the evil trio: Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave. For me, the main thing is keeping the body build, the alt mode is secondary. I love his robot mode (G1). But Soundwave and Megatron alt modes should be updated. Megatron as a tank is more than fine, just keep his robot mode as intact as possible. Soundwave.. hmm.. Humwee maybe, with communication devices? (As it could be box-like) Military Humwees can be modified with various ”packages” in real life, like medical package, missile package (tow II missile louncer), or communication devices.. so it could be a good option. But whatever the alt mide, keep the looks and voice.
@@SinSorrowEU perhaps breakdown (if they ever bring him into the movies or bring him back to the aligned continuity's timeline) could be a civilian Hummer? (Like the early ones that were essentially humvees)
A UA-camr John balley aka epicvoiceguy a voice actor of soundwave in his videos and he’s now a voice actor of soundwave in the bumblebee movie that’s cool
I thought his design in Prime was really clever. As an actual reconnaissance vehicle used today, a UAV. It allowed him to observe the goings on from incredible heights.
Think we should probably avoid the thing we use to drone-strike civilians. Middle Eastern children are TERRIFIED of them, justifiably so. And not in a hand-wringing, "girl-tied-to-the-traintracks" vaudevillain way, but in an, "All of my friends were murdered by these," kind of way.
This was an Incredible Masterpiece for Soundwave My Fourth Favorite Decepticon. 1: Transformers The Aligned Continuity (Issac C Singleton Jr. and Frank Welker) 2: Transformer Generation One (Frank Welker) 3: Transformers Film Series (Peter Jessop, Issac C Single Jr. and Frank Welker) 4: Transformers Cyberverse (Marc Swint) 5: Transformers The Unicron Trilogy (Robert O Smith and Gary Chalk) 6: Transformers Animated (Jeff Bennet) 7: Transformers War For Cybertron Trilogy (Edward Bosco)
It could be transformed into a communications van, in which its minicons are different alternate modes instead of simply cassettes. Rumble and Frenzy could be speakers, Laserbeak a drone, and Ravage I think would be the most complicated to give it an alternate mode.
A news camera wouldn't be a bad idea either. You can keep his iconic form, make the camera lense the "turret" on his shoulder and he can deploy VHS tapes instead of cassettes.
People are always buying "retro-ized" cases for their phones, tvs and players. Be fun wouldn't it if someone had that blue tooth play and said hey "I have a retro-inspired blue tooth speaker!"
That's not entirely mobile enough for him to be a reconnaissance operative. It's great for spying on the humans but that's what his little companions are supposed to be for.
Soundwave will always be a cassette deck at heart. But for me, a modern update to a alternative mode are either these two. -10:48 Helicopter mode Soundwave would be awesome as hell to fully bring into the Transformers universe. -ROTF Soundwave can slightly morph his satellite mode into a cybertronian jet in both the toyline and videogame. Sure the armor truck modes in others incarnations looks cool. But I prefer that he has a aerial mode. Sidenotes: This dark purple verison 2:40 of G1 Soundwave from the Marvel comics would be an interesting toy to have. His robot mode 18:19 looks awesome and 14:14 looks badass. His Cybertronian lamppost mode 17:05 great, and his G1 inspired design for the Bumblebee movie remains epic 16:42.
I think he should be a mix of a sound system and a military communication vehicle with new minicons as well. I prefer to keep the streak as a sound system for Soundwave too.
I think the spy drone idea from TFP was the coolest, but if i were to try and keep his bulkier design then make him a multi-changer that can be a News Van, Party Bus and Satellite.
He has to be something that releases smaller bots. The tape deck was so cool with the little tape bots. I like the satelite van idea best maybe with a satellite that turns into a bot and another one that comes out of the back of the van that would be badass.
Soundwave should be a triple changer. So he can change to a tape deck for spying. While he can also transform into satellite dish truck to make a quick get away in case he gets his cover blown.
I like the idea of Soundwave as a humvee with a big stereo. It would be kinda funny to have the casseticons rocking out to his sound system while driving down the street. Soundwave’s boxiness and voice modulation are both elements that I’d like to see faithfully adapted in the future. With his monotone voice and unreadable face, he has this sinister undertone that can be really malleable between (goofy) cartoons and more serious adaptations. The simpleness of his design works in his favor. War for Cybertron (game) Soundwave is probably my favorite ‘modern’ interpretation across all of his transformations, in part because it balances the serious and the goofy. His robot mode is somewhat boxy, but also feels more practical than his 80’s look. And although his vehicle altmode was on the generic side, I appreciated that he also had a weaponized subwoofer alt that called back to the cassette player. If a giant boom box keeps the cassette vibe relevant, I’m all for it. Plus, it makes Soundwave seem like a closet party animal, which I find hilarious.
If we're including "mass shifting"/shrinking down while transforming, I'd say either a cell phone or a personal digital voice recorder (I prefer the latter). If no mass shifting is involved, I'd say a surveillance van.

Personally I like the Transformers Prime version of Soundwave the best. It deviates the most from his G1 design and personality so many hardcore fans might disagree (correction: most definitely will disagree) but I find the idea of a giant robot transforming into a tiny handheld device very gimmicky. Soundwave's intelligent and loyal personality and, despite being mute, was a Deception to be feared made him a stand out character. He doesn't have his voice-modifying feature but I feel like that is worth sacrificing for such an amazing character. As for his alternate mode, I found the military recon jet to be very suiting for his role in the Deception forces, his personality, and it also fits the theme that most Deceptions use flying-vehicle modes. The armored SUV is generic and again the music-centered handheld device can't be taken seriously. A communications truck would actually be interesting though! Especially with its satellites and other parts transforming into Soundwave's minions.
my favourite iteration of soundwave, beside G1, is his Animated design with his SUV alt mode it calls back to Soundwave's routes as a music cassette player, while also modernizing it and attaching it to a more mobile vehicle (well modernizing at the time Animated was airing). i love how Lazerbeak and ratbat are guitars as a modernise compromise, and while animated's story is more of less finished (aside from the unaired season), it does open up ideas for design of his other cassette bots (i can see Ravage being a Bass Guitar, Rumble and Frenzy both as one drumset (similar to Ice-cream truck bayverse Skids and Mudflap), Buzzsaw could be a recolored lazerbeak or a DVD/Blu-ray Disc)
Hunter Langley I personally think that’s lazy and uncreative, there is so much more that could be done. A military communications vehicle with military drones as the cassettecons would be cool
Soundwave is by far my favorite Transformer. I grew up with the Armada cartoon, so my first exposure to him wasn't until I played the War/Fall of Cybertron videogames. He was instantly my favorite, and I came to love his G1 version even though his character design was considered "dated". Great video as always, Rodimus.
Gezi5 thank you for sharing with me your opinion very creative. Can you make a video about Soundwave and I will watch your video. If I like your video then I will give your video a like and subscribe to your channel.
My idea would be Soundwave as a Satellite, Lazerbeak as a military drone, Ratbat as a civilian drone, Frenzy as a Boombox. Still unsure about Ravage and Rumble at this point, though lol.
I like the idea of him being a surveillance drone, as he has the decepticon’s superior flight ability in that mode. The downside is they are very slim-looking and his robot mode is more boxy.
I prefer his original form tbh, it may be outdated but it still doesn't need to change. also if it becomes a newer form of mucis device he couldn't carry his spy tape decepticons anymore. they couldn't be CDs since they are machine in nature
I'd like to see him with an alt mode as an armored tracked or wheeled vehicle designed as a communications/HQ type command vehicle. Several antennas and maybe a radar dish.
One of my favorite transformers characters! Definitely in my top favorite Decepticons! I always loved his classic design, but I also love his design in prime, animated, and cybertron as well! He's great and a truly iconic character of the transformers franchise! :')

Favorite version: definitely the G1 cassette player. As for a modern version, I gotta agree with the communications truck. Heck, Laserbeak could be the satellite dish on top.
Now I'm imagining Rumble and Frenzy not even having an Alt Mode they just sit in the drover/pasenger seats lol
"He's trippin' cause he got served." -- Soundwave
When I think of soundwave in modern times, he has to still be faithful to the legacy of the original.
Usually a surveillance and communications officer to megatron, the most basic in terms of form is a military grade communications Vehicle.
Matthew Cobalt yeah, maybe a Russian KAMAZ 63969 with some antenna or a satellite dish added on top.
Nope. He should be a toaster.

i was just about to sudjust it :)
the art work kills me.
If it's a party van, then where is all of the TMNT branding?
Or one of those rolling concert trucks with the big ass speakers
I think he should be kept as a casette player. It's such a perfect design. Just because it's not modern doesn't mean it's not cool. As time passes, it just gets more unique.
Why not just keep him as a walkman? Doctor Who still travels in a police phone box. Some things become iconic in a way that transcends their origins.
I would make him a triple changer: Robot mode, a Jet mode and a radio communication centre that is used by others
But he already dispenses minibots. Wouldn’t making him a triple changer too be OP?
a surveillance van or an APC would also work

Sometimes, you just can't beat the Classics. Even though the Microcassette Recorder is outdated, the love for the character is not. If I had to choose, probably a comms vehicle.
That John Bailey voice though really did sound like Frank Welker’s voice. In my book, if Soundwave doesn’t have that Frank Welker voice from G1, it isn’t quite right.
I prrefer the Predator drone. His character in that cartoon was my favorite.

The content you're creating is EVERYTHING a Transformer fan want to see & learn!
TY so much!
His modern form should depend on where's he's located such as a satellite
a modern version for blaster could be one of those tricked out/pimped party vans/cars like you see at clubs or raves.
@@GladDestronger I think that was the idea behind his Animated alt mode
That was what I was thinking! He could be able to turn into different forms for infiltration or convenience. This would also make sense since he often doubles as a spy/spy master.
Dude imagine him as a satilite in space, and space battles in space with other space fairing Autobots and Decepticons. Would be dope.
Cybertronian Satilite. Minions are solar panels and heat shielding.
Better yet for sound wave a News Van cause that doesn’t draw any suspicion as a “master spy” shouldn’t draw suspicion
@@sockshandle Actually, I do like your idea =) Humwee might bee too military. 🤔
@@SinSorrowEU perhaps breakdown (if they ever bring him into the movies or bring him back to the aligned continuity's timeline) could be a civilian Hummer? (Like the early ones that were essentially humvees)

@Bill O'Brien that makes sense, Shockwave basically sounds like Soundwave without the modulator.
Oh no
0:42 me when my internet goes down by one bar
I want Soundwave to take on the form of a military spy Jet like he was in Transformers Prime cuz That's fits him more better. like if you agreed
It was a Predator Drone I thought
I like the jet and also like the car
But make him bulkier, he's too skinny in prime
I thought his design in Prime was really clever. As an actual reconnaissance vehicle used today, a UAV. It allowed him to observe the goings on from incredible heights.
Think we should probably avoid the thing we use to drone-strike civilians. Middle Eastern children are TERRIFIED of them, justifiably so. And not in a hand-wringing, "girl-tied-to-the-traintracks" vaudevillain way, but in an, "All of my friends were murdered by these," kind of way.

5: Transformers The Unicron Trilogy (Robert O Smith and Gary Chalk)
6: Transformers Animated (Jeff Bennet)
7: Transformers War For Cybertron Trilogy (Edward Bosco)
It could be transformed into a communications van, in which its minicons are different alternate modes instead of simply cassettes. Rumble and Frenzy could be speakers, Laserbeak a drone, and Ravage I think would be the most complicated to give it an alternate mode.
Soundwave cassette mode will be the best mode in my opinion
A news camera wouldn't be a bad idea either. You can keep his iconic form, make the camera lense the "turret" on his shoulder and he can deploy VHS tapes instead of cassettes.
Exactly. Plus all the cassettes were awesome.
I’d say a portable Bluetooth speaker would be a good choice
Maybe one that stylistically resembles a box shape while also being more compact. The "cassettes" could also become different models of smartphones.
True
Lincoln Strong I’m not a huge fan of size changing, I think a hummer with a motorcycle rack would be cool, the motorcycles would be the Cassettecons
Yes finally a soundwave retrospective! I love soundwave
He has to be something that releases smaller bots. The tape deck was so cool with the little tape bots. I like the satelite van idea best maybe with a satellite that turns into a bot and another one that comes out of the back of the van that would be badass.
Also, in the G1 episode “Roll for It” Soundwave sounded like Dr.Claw in one scene.
That's the secret behind Soundwave's voice. A Dr Claw impression.
Dr. Claw with the modulation. People wonder if he'd have that voice without his face plate.
Yeah, Welker went with a deep voice once, and it was his Dr Claw voice.
"NO ONE CALLS sOUNDWAVE UNCHROSAMATIC!"
I love G1 Soundwave.
He was the best deception for me
I just thought of the concept of a Soundwave with a gaming PC alternate mode, with his cassettecons taking the shape of video cards.
Soundwaves G1 look is iconic and should never change
If we're including "mass shifting"/shrinking down while transforming, I'd say either a cell phone or a personal digital voice recorder (I prefer the latter). If no mass shifting is involved, I'd say a surveillance van.
Surveillance van sounds like a great alt form for him
i dont want him to be”modernized” - hes my favorite transformer and changing him would lose his iconic look and charisma
I think its iconic too. However his alt mode is no longer in use so any update needs to reflect who he is and what he does.
i'd say modernize him without loosing his iconic look

Great video Rodimus personally I like soundwave either as a van or his g1 alt mode other then that this is a good video Rodimus I enjoy the video
Ok is no one going to point out or ask why at 7:18 galvatron and Soundwave are holding hands taking a stroll at what looks like the park?
🤣🤣🤣Maybe in that episode, Galvatron couldn't fly for some reason?? haha...good question. looks wrong for sure.
Either the animators at AKOM said "Hey, let's see if anyone notices!" or else they were hitting the soju early that day.
my favourite iteration of soundwave, beside G1, is his Animated design with his SUV alt mode
it calls back to Soundwave's routes as a music cassette player, while also modernizing it and attaching it to a more mobile vehicle (well modernizing at the time Animated was airing). i love how Lazerbeak and ratbat are guitars as a modernise compromise, and while animated's story is more of less finished (aside from the unaired season), it does open up ideas for design of his other cassette bots (i can see Ravage being a Bass Guitar, Rumble and Frenzy both as one drumset (similar to Ice-cream truck bayverse Skids and Mudflap), Buzzsaw could be a recolored lazerbeak or a DVD/Blu-ray Disc)
Just leave him a walkman, but up the quality on the alt modes.
Hunter Langley I personally think that’s lazy and uncreative, there is so much more that could be done. A military communications vehicle with military drones as the cassettecons would be cool
That's the exact issue Hasbro is trying to work around. Soundwave can't be a Walkman forever.
People these days won't know what a Walkman is
Soundwave is by far my favorite Transformer. I grew up with the Armada cartoon, so my first exposure to him wasn't until I played the War/Fall of Cybertron videogames. He was instantly my favorite, and I came to love his G1 version even though his character design was considered "dated".
Great video as always, Rodimus.

That alternate mode sucks!
Absolute Zero ok
My idea would be Soundwave as a Satellite, Lazerbeak as a military drone, Ratbat as a civilian drone, Frenzy as a Boombox. Still unsure about Ravage and Rumble at this point, though lol.
I like the idea of him being a surveillance drone, as he has the decepticon’s superior flight ability in that mode. The downside is they are very slim-looking and his robot mode is more boxy.
Soundwave’s Modern alternate mode should be a Communications truck.
That Seige Alt Mode looks like something a Junkion would have regurgitated
We are war machines and we're more than meets the eye! Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, Ratbat, Laserbeak and I!
LoneDragon Squalktalk, Beastbox, Slugfest
My favorite is still the original, but perhaps a communications truck is ideal for a more modern form.
I'd like to see a series take a crack at your comunications truck idea!
I prefer his original form tbh, it may be outdated but it still doesn't need to change. also if it becomes a newer form of mucis device he couldn't carry his spy tape decepticons anymore. they couldn't be CDs since they are machine in nature
maybe some kind of computer or a form of cell phone with a flash drive compartment?
